Hi Floyd

It seems JMET will stick to the same pattern as last year - wat u say is rite - its all about maxing in the other 3 sections - though last year reasoning was a bit toughie and time consuming, hence lost out in it... planning not to do so this year...

By the way how many did u attempt in Quant/wat score did u get for the 99.96 perc?

Also - how did u solve the paper? in plain words strategy and time splits for the sections?

Ashish

If you are not confident about quant, aim to just touch the cutoff. Try to do the CAT like questions. At the same time, try to maximize your score in the other sections.

I think a score of 75+ should fetch you a call. Considering average accuracy, a 100 attempts seem to be good.

As for me, I had had 102 attempts. I had scored in the mid 80's and had got a % of 99.92 (Rank 14) with 99.96 in quant. This is just to show you guys that JMET quant is not uncrackable. ITs just that peple never take it seriously.

Hence, if you think you are not so good in quant, stick to the strategy of maximizing your scores in the other sections. However, if you feel that quant is your strength, Go for it Mate !

Cheers
Ramesh

My 2 cents on quant...i attempted only CAT questions there ewere abt 13 of them...gave just 20 mins to these 13 ques and was away with 96%ile in quant....but i cud afford 2 give jst 20 min becos thr were no sectional cutoffs...this time the strategy wud probably be different...

Re: SJMSOM, IIT Bombay Admissions 2007 - 22-11-2006, 11:09 AM

STRATEGY :

It being a 3-4 section paper.. Always start with equal distribution of time
As you progress VA definitely u can manage in say 23-25 min..then start with another 30 min time slot for DI after 30 min say u cud'nt solve all the Qs but u have VA surplus time at your disposal..but still move to another section "Mark mentally" or note down the easy sets which u think with little more deliberation u can crack but cud not in the stipulated time...
After covering all the section this way you should be having 8-13 mins surplus Use this time to go back to those "Marked Sets" and make a killing in reasoning set or DI or one more RC..this way you end up salvaging marks even towards the fag end of the exam

Startegy in short is : try to solve each section in equally distributed time and save time 2-3 min per section you should not worry of cracking more set at 27th min and exceed your limit of 30 mins ..that way pressure mounts as you move from one section to other

Aways keep an eye for easy sets (IN JMET you will have them 4 sure unlike CAT)
that way u should aim to clear cut off within 15-20 min of each section and then maximising the same
But remeber what i said to be done at 27th min..if ne of ur problem set ends at 27-28th min don't do another set but move to next section..note that problem set and gat back in the last

last year this way i was able to solve everthig i could in 2 hrs and left the paper after the bell with nloy those unattempted Qs which i cud not have solved with much effort also
probably end up doing them wrong which also got avoided..

hi Floyd, Vodka et all...
This is a very valuable thread!I'm sure it would be very helpful for JMET aspirants.
I took up JMET last time and Quant was a nightmare.
Guys, is it really essential to brush up on Differentiation/Integration et all?I dont remember the ABCD of those topics and dont feel like startin rite now.

Thanks!

-Poornima

Yup. JMET this time has sectional cutoff. But as pointed out by my classmates above, the sectional cutoff for Quant is not expected to be too high. Just revise your Class 11 and 12 higher math fundae. And dont forgot to crack the sitters.

If I can crack quant anyone can! :-D

Hey ppl, just relax......what jmet quant is made out is more of hype than the truth.......The quant questions are seriously not above cat level of difficulty......and I repeat this......The calculus questions are strictly of +1 and +2 level and to crack them all u need is just a fleeting glance of those +1 +2 text books.........some limits, standard differentials and standard integrals......these are only if u want to have an edge remember, IITs being besotted with math doesn't mean they r looking for Math Geeks
