B - school rankings taken out by TIME k - 18-08-2006, 12:05 AM

frens ,
we all know , that before we join any institute we do a lot of research on te various institutes and what they have to offer , rankings also play a major part in that shortlisting , but as its is prhobited on this thread i thought that it was apt to bring out the shortlisted institutes by TIME on the basis of categorisation rather than randomly ranking them , this gioves a much better idea and also helps one assess the various aspects to be taken into consideration , i hope the mods dont have any problems with this thread and they have th fukll right to shift this thread to a different section if the feel like , for now im posting the data over here for the benefit of the students who are applying tovarious institute sthis year k

The Top 90 management institutes in the country have been divided into five broad categories. A numerical ranking often does not have a sound scientific basis. The parameters and, more importantly, the weightages given to these tend to be extremely subjective.

A qualitative analysis of a B-school on pre-determined parameters can however give you a more comprehensive picture. These parameters include placements track records, quality of faculty members, quality of students, quality of infrastructure, image of the institute, etc. However being based on perspective, the resultant rankings too, are thus subject to many fierce debates.
T.I.M.E. has used its extensive student database and years’ of experience in the field to categorise the top 90 institutes.
Given below is the categorisation of the Top B-Schools. Please note that within each category, the B-Schools are listed in alphabetical order – there is no ranking or grading WITHIN each category.

As a part of the selection criteria, a number of management institutes also include a minimum percentage of marks to be scored by the students in their graduation for the students to be eligible to apply to such institutes.

Broadly, these categories are meant to aid the students in applying to institutes. Within a category, the institutes are of approximately the same quality. Of course, the categorisation is only indicative and students should make independent inquiries before taking a final decision about which institutes to apply to.

The Top 10 are the so-called 'Ivy-League' institutes that every student dreams of getting an admission into. Many of these institutes are comparable with the best in the world. Indeed, some of them regularly feature in the lists released by international business magazines. These institutes invariably have a 100% placement record. Even the not-so-good students at these institutes manage to get very good jobs on account of the rub-off effect of the institute.

The "A+" & "A" categories of institutes are those that fall into the Top 35. They offer a high quality of education in terms of faculty quality and infrastructure facilities. These institutes usually have a 100% placement record. Only the poor performers at these institutes may have some difficulties regarding placements. Some of the top students at these institutes should be able to secure placements that are comparable to those offered at the Top 10 institutes. Most students should be more than happy to join these institutes if they are able to get admission.

The "B+" category of institutes offers a consistent quality of education in terms of faculty quality and infrastructure facilities even though these may not be comparable to those of the top institutes. These institutes are successful in providing placements to their top students, especially those with good communication skills, but do not have a 100% placement record. A student at one of these institutes would have to work extra-hard to secure a good rank and high marks so as to enhance his placement chances.

The "B" category of institutes are those that are well regarded at a local level. These institutes may not provide too many national level placement opportunities but are generally successful in providing placements to many of their students with prominent local companies. Re: B - school rankings taken out by TIME k - 18-08-2006, 12:50 AM

I really appreciate the reason behind starting this thread i.e. to let the mba aspirants know about the rankings given by different organisations(espcl. by coaching institutes).

BUT i dont know y this thread is only for time rankings. Even Careerlauncher,IMS, PT etc. have come up with such categorisation rather then ranking them.

P.S. MODs plz change the title of the thread

Well here is the categorisation given by Careerlauncher on their site.Hope this will be helpful for all mba aspirants to choose the best B-School for themselves.

Most Coveted B-schools to Pursue an MBA The six IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) are the most aspired for and reputed institutes in India, and so are the courses offered by another dozen or so leading schools. All of them have an excellent track record in offering high quality education, and students from these institutes get the pick of corporate and management jobs directly from campus.
Pegasus's B-School Ranking To simplify your B-school selection we have categorized India's top B- schools into eight clusters. The list of B-school in India can go on forever, however, we have tried to limit our classification to the better and more known B-schools.

Note, as you proceed from the best to the also-rans, the level of differentiation between both the schools and the clusters significantly diminishes. When reviewing B-schools within a cluster, the preference generally diminishes as you read further from top to bottom. For example, in Cluster 1, we feel that IIM-A is the best B-school in India at present, followed by Bangalore, Kolkata and so on. In certain clusters, the differentiation on the quality of the institute is specialization-driven, and the top to bottom reading is not necessarily representative.

Before taking final admission into any of these B-schools, please ensure that you speak to some students of the current batch and a few of their alumni and visit the websites of the institutes for detailed information. Apart from these premier institutes, there are several other colleges that offer an MBA degree

Pegasus ranking methodology The parameters on which B-schools are judged and ranked, keeping in mind what each offers the student and how these facilitate education are:
  • Placement records of the last three years
  • Infrastructure: school and learning environment
  • Faculty
  • Geographical location: proximity of B-schools to business hubs
  • Entrance exams applicable
  • Interaction with alumni
  • Interaction with Career Launcher students now studying at these B-schools
Career Launcher also visits these campuses as a recruiter, and the input from our HR team helps us evaluate these institutes better

For whatever reasons you end up with your own ideas like a true dogmat and keep propagating that. For the nth time you have ended up making a fool of yourself. On one hand you say..."Sydenham does not participate and believe in so called rankings(which are all erred up)...and on the other hand you put up something which you yourself are aginst of. Where did you learn this logic from?? By giving MAT 10 times every year and then missing some school and claiming to all that you missed it.

I know by what I say...all your so called college buddies will revolt back...but then...WHY? ASK YOURSELF..WHY??

COUNTER THIS

1) U say Sydenham chrges less fees----haan so what? IIMs don't, niether do India's top B-Schools..even JB I hear has increased its fees. B-Schools that wish to give Value Education...have to charge. That is why there is always a difference between a Govt School student and a Premier B School student. Check out your alumni strngth in comparison to colleges that came up at your time.....there is a massive differenc. Do Not just count a few famous names!!!

2) In the kind of environment you study and nurture biz education...well Biz Strategy ain't eating Chanas at Marine Drive as someone frm ur gang said.....thts the euphoric perception that you guys foster to compromise with lil value education that is given in ur classes.

3) With not even a website running properly...u need to finally use forums like PG to ensure ppl come to ur college..They will now...lets see how many do turn up in the future...

4) Ahem...rnkings...Start living with the reality of life...A product well marketed gets sold and succeeds...not one whch assumes it is unique and lets the decision mkin be done by the customer. If this was not true ....Mercedes did not needed to brand or market itself.
IIMs I hear do not encourage and participate in rankings willingly....for their students speak out what thier quality is...not the advts.....

5) Brand name....well Bombay was a powerful brand...Mumbai ain't tht in comparison...For a firang name ....its anyways very easy.

6) For the eternal TRUTH...Check out your admission database for the year 2003...there is a guy called Rajesh Nambiar, who quit Sydenham after 8 months because of the sick education and perception that was generated in him and for the hopes that he came with and crashed. He finally got lucky and joined TAPMI...whch as per u is a B-Grade B-School. Till date he speaks of the horror he went through at a so called good institute called sydenham

7) Faculty- Tell me how many of ur faculty members appear as writers in Biz magazines or newspapers.. Wellingkars has...JBIMS has..SP Jain has ...but you want to please MBA aspirants by saying..."We do not have any FACULTY...we have only Visiting Faculty for industry interface" What Crap?? As if IIMs are producing Crap quality by having 70+ Permanent Faculty?? Can u even name a PHD who researched in your B-School or Published any such material??? I bet you cannot..

Selection procedure- Give me a braek...MAT everyone knows is one of the most Jholu exams...ppl who score 99% + in MAT cannot even spk a straight line in English. Proves why MAT is not accepted by the IIMs, Symbi, NM, SPJ, MDI, TAPMI etc...
So how do u evaluate such fraudulent students?? No work-experience, No Corporate exposure...and you want to produce Managers for the 21st Century?? Hmmm...think over it !!

9)..For a B-School more thn 15yrs old...ur plcmnts r still weak..And about your placements and all tht shab tht u give here...what about the "non-english" spkin crappy batch tht u guys have been fosterin for long??

I know...no person from Sydenham will openly support this issue here...but in reality everyone from Sydenham knows how much they are losing from better colleges in Mumbai like SP Jain, NMIMS, JBIMS and Wellingkar for tht matter. Atleast they have the resources to develop their skill sets...not marine drive, Chanawala and a Shabby Campus. (That is why ppl ran to other B-Schools in Mumbai this year and u closed at a pathetic 160 sumthin)

MBA is a 2 year Course for VALUE ADDITION and not for Return on Investment. U may get a placement...but to sustain u need tht Management Wizardry whch Unfortunately requires Investment and not Marine Drive, Chanas and a euphoric mindset for something false.

STOP CHEATIN ASPIRANTS....They are your Customers.....And Customers need VALUE..for which today Indian Customer can PAY

Symbiosis..Better than the best

i think yu were the guy who tries to throw his shit in some of the earlier threads where yu wre kicked out , now yu do this to this thread , thats for a different purpose altogether , i think no one over here has anything against what we are putting up (2 such rankings came up) and how do yu relate this to sydenham , this just goes on to sho that yu do pagalguying just to vent yur personal feelings , have yu ever looked into helping pout aspirants , not saying much , as i knw , yu are trying to thro yur venom on thsi thread , and the fact that yu are doing thsi doesnt reflect well on yur b schooling , even symbi guys wouldnt agree to whatevr shit yu ae telling , i think every b school there are some shits and one of them is yu , so even symbi can do without yu , the very fact that yu vent out yur feelings on one of the top b schols in mumbai for no rhyme or reason shows yur frustration levels , wheover yu are and wherever yu are studying kindli refrain from posting such stuffs out here , and one more thing , see the other guys who posted out here , they are muc more sensible to understand the purpose of the thread ........ regarding MAT ........... its a direct insult on OMS who work and get thru JBIMS , SYDENHAM , KJ , WELINGKARS , and yu knw what yu can directly invite wrath from these studnts , if they see yur post , hey man ... the fact that yu dint get thru top CETcolleges doesnt give yu any license to bad mouth all other students who have got thru top collegs in CET , and well well well see this is what happens even im goin offtrack , partcipate in fruitful discussions , whcih i think yu cant ................. and so refrain from posting , do one thing more GET A LIFE ........... mods this was just not what the thread was intended for and do check such frustrated guys , k
