Deal All,
I had my GMP interview today in Delhi....and it was a bit of a screw up

Here goes my story....
My interview was scheduled at 2:20 pm ...I reached little early @ 12:30pm but the profs were all preparing to go to lunch that time. I was the only candidate when I reached there ....All Profs came back at 1:45 asked me to come in at 1:50 pm.
(1st candidate after their lunch ...whewwww I hope I am not their desert !!!)
On the interview table, There were 3 Profs, descriptions were same as the panel described by sumitrocks ...
P1: So, Tell us something about your achievements in your college life ?
Me: I was from BIT Ranchi, I talked about how I led some student bodies, Vice-Chairman, IEEE- Student Chapter - Organized International Technical Festival, Placement facilitation Group head, engineering society ....and 2 years in National Service Scheme (NSS) as part of community service.
P1: Tell me one thing about your first exp. in IEEE , Tech fest and then something about your NSS experience.
Me: About IEEE, I was the Vice-chairman of the IEEE, student Chapter, We organized our colleges first Internationa Technical Fest...I was the chief event co-ordinator there ...
P1: He asked me about specific events I liked ?
Me: I told about paper presentation contests and how we talked to international students from Dubai, Nepal , Srilanka , Bangaldesh etc. to come and present
their papers...etc.
P1: Do you remember the Paper that won in that contest ?
Me: I fortunately remembered and told them the name of the topic name.
P1: Ok, Tell me something that you did in social work ?
Me: I was part of NSS, it was student body in school and I was working in it for two years for the Project "Youth for Rural Reconstruction". Told them how we used to go to the rural schools around the college area.... (I tried to explain in b/w how my campus was far away from Town....P1 said that I have visited your campus a couple of times....) ....I cont. telling him abt how we also taught mess workers etc.
P1: Asked me did you really do it, Because some people put it in their resumes for specially even when they don't have it ?
Me: I said sir, I can assure you that i have been totally committed to community service. I have certificates and appreciation letters from my profs in college and I am still associated with a Delhi based NGo....I can get references anytime he wants me to.
(P1 looked convinced, signaled to P2 to take over. P2 was a "bearded guy", people who went the day before had warned me about him that he was a economics guy and can ask you economics questions which was my weak point. So, was expecting the same from him)
P2: Tell me the difference between Happiness, Joy and ecstasy ....or you think they are all of the same degree..(Out of the blue Question, I was thinking is this something linked to economics here ? )
Me: I told him happiness can be considered as a emotion a person gets when he gets something he wants it can be a thing, a goal or objective.
Joy and ecstasy are emotions of great happiness....when you acheive something beyond your expectations or are in a state of extreme pleasure.
(Whew !! This answer was totally impulsive, where did i come up with that .....was in my moment of little ecstasy...but was short lived).
P2: By your logic about happiness, how do you show the diff, b/w happiness and contentment ?
Me: I told him contentment is that if a person looks for B but is able to only get A, while happiness is when he gets B. (P2 looked convinced)
P2: Do you know any central American states that has been in news lately...
Me: I started about US subprime mortgage issues and loan crisis....(he stopped me.. )
P2: That's not what i asked....i am talking about a country in Central America ...US is not in Central America...
Me: I had to politely tell him no i haven't heard that news, and my geography was never very good...so if he wants to mention something very specific, I can let him know about my views.
P2: No Problems (signaled, P3 to take over....) (STRIKE 1 for me)
P3: Can you tell us what you have been doing with the Delhi based NGO ?
Me: I told him about ...Child care and welfare associated. How we organize talent shows.
P3: Are you aware of the norms of freedom of rights for children in the constitution..?
Me: Told them something I knew....(Didn't looked convinced !!)
P3: Can you tell me something about Mhd. Yousuf and the controversy surrounding him ?
(I was happy, cricket is something I could have talked for hours ....)
Me: I started talking about Pakistani Player Mohd. Yousuf and the controversy surrounding him when he joined ICL....(P3 stopped me)
P3: I was asking about Mohd. Yousuf the Nobel Prize winner from Bangladesh...
Me: OOps....Told him did not know about him...(STRIKE 2)
P3: Do you know about Childline ? What was it for and stuf... ?
ME: Yes, ....New something abt that and told him...
P3: What is the childline number ?
Me: Told him I don't remember but i have their card and contacts ...which i use...etc.
P2: Ok, Tell us something about your work experience...? (Sighh...FINALLY !!)
Me: Blah ....Blah...Blah !!
P2: Since IT is going through a recession right now, what strategy would you suggest your company...
Me: Told him 2 points about lowering charge out rates for Clients with long term relationships...and re-badging of employees laid off by U/s Clients..blah Blah..!!
P2: He then looked at others and told me that will be all ....do you want to question us on something ?
Me: I asked them about XLRI plans to keep up their placement stats in this recession period ?
P2: We don't try anything its up to the students, how they can make the best of the opportunities that we provide them.
(I guess, I wasn't satisfied because i got 2 STRIKES before, so wanted to impove my score...)
Me: Sir, Would you like to have a look at my file and resume ....you will find some interesting things that happened with me ..in the 3 months I have spent after filling the application form last December. (I was thinking panga to nahin le raha ).
P2: No Thank you !! (and then casually when I was going told me)
We are not interested in "ONLINE" information.....everybody laughs !! (STRIKE 3...OUT)
I wish all the guys left with their GMP interviews, all the best ....I thought mine was a little screwed up as some of the things could have been handled in a better way and so I see my chances of getting thru low !!
My Profile : 5 years in IT-Consulting (2 years international) / GMAT: 710
