Re: 1 year PGDGM program at XLRI - GMP - 04-09-2006, 12:27 AM

Hello,

As this happens to be my first post on this thread, a small intro, my name is dipankar and I am a current student from the GMP 06-07 batch.

Firstly, let me make an apology for the delayed response for all the queries made. We will be having our End terms till the 7th of this month, so it would be a bit difficult to reply on a real time basis.

Coming to the query on banking, it would be prudent to give you a flavour of the current guys in our batch. We have around 10-12 executives this year from banking. They are from banks like SBI, IDBI, IOB, Vijaya Bank etc. Mostly all of them are from the managerial grade. We have a DGM from Nabard, who has 20 years of exp. One guy from SBI has 17 years. There are a couple from the finanacial markets, some from the debt market background and a few from the equity side as well. The exp in banking of our batch goes from 6 years to 20 years with a major chunk in the 8-9 years bracket. The number of people from finance background would be higher as we have some people from the IT arena and who have worked in finance related sectors like Investment banking, Insurance etc.

As regards the admits from other colleges are concerned, there are at least 15 of us who have left the 2 year program of institutes like IIM K, Spjain, MDI, Bajaj, IIFT, NM to name the top ones. There are guys who have left the one year admits from ISB, Queens and AIM. There are 3 guys who have left the 2 year admit from AIM. So, in short it all depends as to what one is looking for.

Placements are something which I would not like to comment at this point in time as ours would be the first batch to get placed. As and when we achieve considerable milestones, the same would be made public. We are all working on it continuously so that the first batch placements take off well, but would not like to comment on it more right now.

The criteria for work ex has been altered, its 5 years and above now. Fees too, have increased to 6 Lacs. Any specific query like shortfall on work ex by say a couple of months etc, can be clarified from the admissions office, though I will try and get some data on this posted soon on the thread.

If you have any specific query, shoot it across, feel free to ask, but be generous to give us time till 7th to reply. J We all will be there to answer all of them

Regards

Dipankar.

Hi,
I Checked at the site it said that the course is for Working Executives who have completed minimum of 5 years of experience as on 31st March 2007.
I would have completed 3 years 8 months in TOP IT companies. Do you think i can still give it a try? Are there chances or my application being accepted.

Regards
Sushant

I had admit for AIM, Manila for MM 06-07 which I have deffered to 07-08. The hitch with AIM, Manila is that they don't have active placements as is the international practice. Also the cost of MM at AIM, Manila is approx Rs. 1 Mn. as compared to XLRI's 3-4 lacs.

Guys need your inputs in deciding which program to go in for.

XLRI mock papers would be available with almost all institutes like TIME, IMS etc... as Xlri does not give you the papers to take home, getting the past paper is not possible..... but then the mocks should give you a fair idea....

Dipankar.

Hi Sushant,

3.8 years will be too low compared to the asked 5 years. The chances are small, however to be 100% sure you can call the admission office and check.

Hi,

XLRI is considering both GMAT and XAT for the GMP course this year. So you can apply with any of them.
