1 year PGDGM program at XLRI - GMP

Dear Seniors,

had a small query, the avg. salary for your batch,15 lacs, does it includes international offers too or only for domestic.
And is it possible to know what was the lowest figure.

Hi Abhishek,

The MDP residence is quite well furnished. From what I have seen you'll have a bed with linen, 24 internet broadband connection (this is true for all hostels and rooms here), standard furniture - table, chair, TV (only in MDP!!). No fridge dude - ur here to study, remember?

Even if the bed roll's are not there, dont worry. For the first few days of college, hawkers will sit right at the campus entrace selling everything. And its a small city, you will be visiting the markets quite frequently in first few days.

About the loan - I had also tried to get it in SBI but had major problems. They have a rule that loan can only be granted by the bank branch present in the collge city/area. So SBI loan for XLRI can only be obtained from the branch in jamshedpur. Also you and the collateral (your father etc), both have to come here to sign the application. I'm from Bangalore. I tried to get over this rule by signing the application in Bangalore and couriering it, but it didnt work out. Finally, I took loan from Karnataka Bank. So its upto you - whichever bank you go to, plz get the loan fast, cauz time flies once you get the XLRI offer.

Hi,

As far as I know, the placement rules are flexible. Placement decisions for next batch will be taken next year only. Moreover, students have some say in these things in MBA colleges - so you can negotiate once you come down here. Right now, even the faculty wouldn't be able to give you 100% pointers.

Hi Chanaveer,

Thanks for your valuable inputs. I am also despartely looking for bank loan even for my first installment. I may not be able to visit SBI, XLRI and I have to try at local branches. One such local SBI branch said that it may take 3 weeks to sanction loan. I will look out for diff. branches. If nothing works than I have to rush to SBI, XLRI at the last moment. Pl. advise.

I would like you to throw some light on the pedagogy that XL follows for GMP...
With more than 08 years of average experience, I believe it'd be more case discussion based . right ??? Whats the ratio like ?? I mean theory vis-a-vis case discussions?
and what about grading?? How much weightage class participation caries ??

Also, as somebody mentioned earlier, placement for 2year course took place earlier than for GMP. In this case if the guys from GMP course were allowed to apply to the companies coming for 2 year course ??

Hi,

We had a total of 26 companies. About 8 from IT, 8-10 from core industries (manufacturing, retail, automobile, steel, marketing etc), a few banks, pharma companies, a few consulting companies (M&A roles, investment banking, management consulting), BPO, and a beauty-care company. Please note that the choice of companies indicates the companies that GMP students wanted to join, and hence invited to campus placement. Companies which no-one was interested in were not called.

I am not clear about the second question. If anyone is interested in getting job in south, he can ask for that in interview. A few people in out batch, including me, also had location preference. We asked and got it. It depends on where the company has its office.

Yes, there were career shifts in our batch. People moved from IT to finance, Automobile to Management consulting, from core industries and bank to IT (even people with ~10 and above exp), R&D to Sales etc. I dont remember the exact number, but its good.

Hi,

Have you spoken to the SBI Branch manager at SBI, Jamshedpur? I had spoken to him when my course was starting, and he gave all the info.
The phone no. is 0657-2231365. I will advice that you talk to another bank simultaneously. It will take some time there too, and later on you can decide which bank to go with.
