without offending, and teetering on the border of being a naysayer, you are way too incoherent...
are you sure you are looking at doing MBA from esteemed intitutes like IIMs MDI or XLRI...

Re: 1 year PGDGM program at XLRI - GMP - 26-08-2008, 09:47 AM

Hi All,

Please advise me if my profile suits XLRI-GMP program or Should I concentrate for normal 2 Yrs MBA program:

X - 75%
XII - 68 %
BE(IT) - 79 % (Private College)

Work Ex - 6 Yrs (Currently in one of the biggest investment bank)

Whole work ex is in software devlopment only.

As I don't have any managerial experience, do I stand any chance in GMP program?

Even have MBA's reporting to me.
Being reading pagal guy from sometime. spoken to guys who have secured seats in 1Yr MBA. All of the opinion is the GMAT, XAT or CAT scores help to get the call... but what count is ur Work -exp..
I have made up ma mind to get in the bigges..See i cant undo what happened in past... i do understand the people has certain kind of IQ level to clear out CAT. but GMAT is on different lines... altogether... GMAt may help me to get the call .....

Re: 1 year PGDGM program at XLRI - GMP - 27-08-2008, 01:42 AM

Please understand that this is not a personal attack on anyone. I just wanted to share my feelings with people, who are visiting the threads in pagalguy in search of a good mba college which will give them a good campus placement to ensure a rich and successful career.
MBA can not be used just to get a jump in your career. There has to be a reason... why you think MBA will be able to complement your existing skills?
what skills you will aquire during MBA that are required to succeed (by success here, in no way I mean the monetary benefits).
What is it that you have not been able to achieve because you did not have the professional training from a B school.
I am not an MBA myself but I am sure of one thing. CAT/GMAT/XAT scores are important but not the only criterion, similarly your work expereince is just another part of the whole package that you bring to the table when you apply for MBA. It is not the only thing. Else everyone with a 720+ score and 10+ experience would get admission into IIMs or XL or ISB..
More important than these things is the motivation for you do an MBA. Even without proper reasons to do an MBA, you might get into a great college and land up a great job, paying you handsomely. but at the end of the day, you will again feel the need to do something to give another jump to your career. I think the problem is in the mindset of the people that they look towards MBA as a launch pad. In my opinion, the B Schools are to be blamed for that as well. They project themselves as the institutes that provide you with astronomical salary figures if you complete the studies. media supports this equally, latching onto anything that says $100000 offered to a MBA students of XYZ...
We seriously need to think what is it that we will give to the class, which is equally important. We also need to think are we really doing MBA because we need it or are we doing it just because it will ensure a plum job offer and a comfortable life. If your decision to do MBA is based on the latter, then I would recommend you to think twice.
Also evaluate, are you really capable of studying at such an elite college, where giving you company will be one of the brightest student from all over India. Before we take the plunge into the water, we should be aware how deep the waters are and what are our swimming capabilities.
cheers....
Ritz
