@XLNC
u r correct mate.. we dont have enuf info abt the course.. n since its a new one , no seniors also.. i will jus tell how i see it.. then main this is the name of welingkars.. i think that should take care of placements to some extent.. i means atleast pgpbd ppl will get placement as much as pgprm ppl.. so even if we dont get high placements, we will get ok ok placements n then we might have to struggle a bit n work hard.. but this is one side of thew coin,,, jus imagine if the course kicks of well.. jus becoz its new, n many companies following biz design theory, it might just be the next best thing.. ppl might get the best offers.. that a large possibilty too.. it may take a few yrs also.. but then if it take few yrs.. we will have a biz design diploma in hand... another point.. companies might see it as a normal mba course also n consider is jus as a normal mba.. thats a possibilty too.. here is what happened at SITM (symbi inst to telecom management), it s specialised kinda course MBA in telecom management (dual).. 80% of the student got placed in normal companies n not in IT or TELECOM... same happened with ICTM also.. Right now there is such a huge demand, that companies jus see the brand name (institute) n pick ppl.. n i guess welingkars has very good industry interface.. so what i wud say is a sort of calculated risk.. in retail u get totally stuck into retail.. so cant compare it with biz design... fees yaa they r high as compared to pgprm but so r they for the other courses... all in all its risky but i m ready to take the risk.

@rex_ross...
hey dude .. seein ur profile.. i wud definately suggest u dont take the risk involved in this course.. dont take a risk at this pt of ur career... abt salary.. no idea... but if it the course clicks.. it can go quite high.
Pantaloons.. no idea. i m scared they r gonna put the 30 pgpbd students which they take with pgprm students...
and no profile as such for pgpbd.. wht they say is CREATIVE minds.. thats it.. freshers.. any grads can apply...
man seein ur prof.. dont go for it.. u better to normal PGDBM course from a premier college.. i m jus a fresher.. but jus that if i was in ur position, then i wudnt have gone for it.. might have even considered specialisation like MBA in telcom from SYMBIOSIS.. jus my point of view...
cheers.. Destiny is not a matter of chance, its a matter of choice; its not a thing to be waited for, its a thing to be achieved

hey people,
i got some real good information regarding the course from col. ashok singh who is a retired army officer and is based in shimla and he gives guest lectures at various iims and private companies throughout the country,
according to him the course is very generalized but the demand for design managers in the country is increasing specially in the automobile market, it does not mean designing cars but finding new customers and products. for example the suv market in india was just nowhere till mahindra and mahindra scorpio came along which suited the indian market and the pocket now every neta big or small owns one. so the business design managers deal with such things. this field is very new in india because as we all know , the products we get in the market and not just cars are used and tested every where else in the world and then we get our hands on them.
companies are now trying to indianise themselevs foe example mc donalds and pizza hut changed their products and prices to suit the indian market and are doin extremely well. this is just and example but should give you the idea as to what kind of a job profile we should be looking for after the course is over.
if compared to the pgprm course, this course is much more wide in its dealings as in if you do not wanna join pantaloon you can get into any field and all my friends who are really intrested in cars and bikes , this should be a very good and an intresting option and hey we all know the automobile market has been on the rise since the time maruti 800 was introduced in the 80's. and even companies in other sectors are spending more and more money in just exploring the indian market , and business design managers are helping companies do that. but if the specialisation comes only in retail , it remains retail for all your life. so that s a real big gamble.
i spoke to col ashok singh for atleast 2 hours on this and was quite convinced to apply for this course and join if selected.and as far as the pgprm course goes, i have applied but now mite not join even if i get selected. the fees is a lil on the higher side for the pgpbd but he said the returns at the end would be much higher after completing the course.coz generally when companies come to india or wanna iexplore new markets within the market, they hire other companies for research and option which is a very costly affair , so companies and now recruting their own business design managers to do the research for them.
and yes rudraksh is absolutely rite , that why spend so much time and money for generalization , thats a drawback of course. but looking at the options, specialization in marketing, operations or other such things makes more sense coz than even after havin an specialisation we can change fields later but retail is say super specialisation, its just retail retail and retail. no switchin anythin but companies and stores later on.
