For the benefit of those who might visit this thread in the future a few clarifications.
Pantaloons picks up the entire Retail batch and the entire Business Design batch at Welingkar. The number of seats in the two courses is equivalent to the committed intake by Pantaloons.
Students are free to reject the Pantaloon offer and instead take recourse of the normal placement process organised by the Career Management Cell in the Institute.
The Institute has been improving its placement record year-after-year in the typical Kaizen fashion.
TO prove Welingkar's commitment towards the new course, a case in point:
PGPeBiz= Course started in 2001, just after the dot.com bust.
A big risk that paid off. Right from the first batch of students, placements was never a problem. Infact the focus of the college was more on spreading the students across diverse industries and companies. This because many companies like TCS, Infosys, PCS came year after year looking for students in dozens. The Ebiz batch having fewer students (only 30 students in 1st 3 years and 60 students since 2004-06 batch) the institute had to ensure that the students did not get concentrated in a few companies alone, hence it had to ask these companies to actually limit the number of students they take. So as you see it was a problem of "having plenty" for the institute.
Surely, this success is only going to repeat for the Business Design batch, with the likes of IDEO, Pantaloons, Publicis and others showing great interest in the course.
All said and done, I would still advice anyone to understand exactly what the objective of the course is before joining it. This is a special course and not a normal MBA. It is aimed at a specific talent pool, and also a niche opportunity (Read job) market. The aspirant should ideally see if the course really suits his/her future aspirations/objectives before taking it up.
