yes i do agree with you, it is very unfair from the institute because thousands of students put in so much of time and effort to get selected in few reputed institutions with limited seats.
i also called the office and the response was of cut out which is no where mentioned in the prospectus.
it is the right of deserving students to be selected as per mentioned in the public docunment of theirs.
i think we should first gather informations about this case from the concerned higher authorities, UGC, legal aspects etc and media can also play an important role.
i really appreciate, if more people can join in this process.
thanks,
gunjan

Final list -
25-04-2007, 09:58 AM
hi
i am one of those not in the 64
First my thanks( not really enuf) to Babu,Givind, subhashish for their guidance throughout the process off tiss and in tiss
Nice to see a lot of ppl whom i ve met, interacted and got to know in a very short time have got thru :
Congrats to chaos(saqi),yuvragi,impa,rajiv,vachan,saud.
I now know whom to contact when i comne there next year Do keep in touch.
It's now upto you to start a thread once you start with your studies and guide the others as babu and others have done. Keep up the spirit of TISS.
Well for others who couldn make it through, i can empathize better
I too felt bad in the beginning but then, lets see the better side of it.. we ve got one more year to improve on a lot of things, be better prepared and equip ourselves with more experience ;p. It's no that we were not good, probably we were not good enough.
Take your time and think hard about how to go ahead , i know it is going to be a long time, but then there's no other choice...Take this as a tonic and be more focussed towards achieving what you ve always wanted to.
Remember "You don't need to be ill to get better"
Signing off with best wishes in life to everyone

p.s: sorry for too much gyaan guys

I think consultation from seniors in this regard would help. I have due respect to the TISS rules, policies, and administration. But there are some things which need a better clarification from the institute:
1. The system of cutout, they didn't mention in their brochure or anywhere else.
2. The decision to admit only 64 in place of seats of 80. We can't dispute them if they say that the rejected aspirants were not worth getting admission. But "Right to Information" is made for that. One can say, "Show me, where I lagged, and I will accept your decision".
The point is, aspirants should be made aware about the decisions made by the university to induct only 64. Only then this failure can help them do better. For example, if I am being rejected, because I had a two years' gap in studies after +2, if I am not told about this, I shall fail again next year, blame the whole world for my failure, but I shall still be blind.
I request some seniors from TISS, to please come forward and defend this decision.

Buddy, how many of us know exactly where we lagged? One may think that s/he had screwed the interview; but in reality one might have screwed the written test. Our beloved TISS even doesn't publish the MERIT RANK after the written test.

Re: Tiss Hrm&lr (2007-2009) -

Let me tell you my story, friends. May be you can point out where I lagged.
I am a B.E. Chemical (Honors) from NIT, Durgapur. I worked for 2 years in Lafarge India, Indian arm of French MNC Lafarge, while posted in Raipur. Then for the last one year I am working with ACC Ltd, in Thane. Total=3 yrs. 10/12 marks = 77%.
I belong to Bihar originally, but I have lived in different parts of India, only to know that we are one.
My written test was good, I remember I only missed around 10 questions, others were cake walks. (My CAT percentile=91, XAT percentile=95.4, JMET Rank=536, NMAT Rank=327).
MY GD was good. As I have attended around 8 GDs this time and learnt that only original and valuable inputs count, not the "air time". I contributed around 4 times, with some really original insights, which no one else had covered.
My interview too was good. The panel members looked very positive and asked twice things like "If we select you then...". I have attended dozens of interviews and my gut feeling said I had done pretty well.
Please find the following details about me which I attached in a separate sheet with the application form:
15. List your extra curricular and leisure time activities, if any:
Extracurricular activities- Journal Secretary of ‘Chemquest’, the chemical engineering wall-journal at NIT-Durgapur.
- Participant of several national and college level paper presentation contests, debates, panel discussions, quizzes etc.
Hobbies: - Writing letters to newspaper editors.
Awards:- First Prize, national-level paper-presentation contest (2004).
- First Prize, national-level paper-presentation contest (2003).
- First Prize, national level debate-contest at Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad (2004).
- First Prize, national level Panel Discussion Contest at NIT-Durgapur (2004).
- First Prize, inter-school quiz contest organized by Leo Club.
16. Mention any special information which you would like to share:
· Participated in 15 days’ “Cement Professionals Development” program at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, organized by Lafarge group, Paris (2005).
· Completed Elementary Course in German language; by Max-Muller Bhawan, Kolkata (2002).
· Completed Diploma in Industrial Safety from Indian Institute of Management and Technology, Chennai through correspondence.
· Delivered Invited lecture titled “Changing Face of Cement Industry”, at All India Students’ Engineering Congress, NIT – Durgapur (2006).
· Has valid passport and driving license.
After not finding my name in the selection list, I was hurt personally. Because despite all the world asking me to join finance/operations, I dreamt of doing MA(HRM&LR) from TISS. But my dream could not fly far enough. One thing is very clear to me: That I don't know where I lagged. (...I had taken admission to MBA at NMIMS, Mumbai and will join there...)
It is not my first failure; I couldn't clear SCMHRD GD, but I knew that I had spoken in excess, without any urge to make a new point. In the end we all try to make out, where we lagged, and we take lessons for the next time. But in case of TISS, I am not able to understand where I missed the cut.
Some of you said that I was not selected because someone else had performed better than me on that day. I accepted it. But the realization that the TISS says, it could not get good enough students to cross cutoff, baffled me. It hurt my self-respect as a student and a learner.

Jisse dekh nahi sakte uski awaz mein hi khush raho...
Jisse paa nahi sakte uske yaad mein he khush raho
MBA karne ka socha tha, S/W mein he khush raho...(fits me to the 't')
