Yeah..... the hostel thing is interesting... what if you said that you would NOT accept admission without the hostel? would that be counted against you?
I guess outstation girls might be having this problem of staying without hostels, specially the freshers. As far as girls are concerned, they might be given first preference...
Anyone knows what is the boy-girl ratio in TISS, and the no. of hostel seats available for both .....
Also, anyone knows at what time the results would be declared day after tomorrow?

TISS, I believe is not listed under the Central Educational Institutions Act ( Reservations In admission ) and hence may not be obliged to take the order..
guys ...with more inputs on this issue do post !!!
regarding the Accomodation - TISS is already building a new campus " The naoroji campus" which hopefully will house all the students , including the other streams like MDS and MSW etc etc

Is the degree equivalent to MBA for job purpose? -
23-04-2007, 01:32 PM
I have a serious doubt that is applicable to all. Seniors please reply.
TISS gives MA degree while other institutes offering similar degree give MBA. If we forget about the campus placement, many big companies like PSUs give advertisement and call for competitive exams for MBA graduates. Can a student from TISS apply for and get selected for every job that is available for MBA (specialization - HRM)?
Please reply. Any practical examples from the past?

MBA and MA in HRM -
23-04-2007, 01:36 PM
I am trying to analyze, if MBA (HRM specialization) from other institutes would be better than MA (HRM&LR) from TISS. I found out one very important clue which was not in my mind till now.
MBA courses have first year common for all people; so they teach finance, marketing, HR and all the stuff to all students including those who would be taking HR afterwards. But in TISS course, you get to study only HRM functions through out the two years. So no papers from finance, no papers from marketing. This makes a big difference between the students from the two streams.
MBAs get to have knowledge from other streams like finance and marketing too. But the MA guys, because of their in-depth study of HR and related issues, will outshine any MBA-HR from other institutes.
What do you think?

hi rahul dont b under illusion that mba degree frm other colls n ma degree frm tiss is diff
tiss do not offer mba degree cos it dont want to b called a business school rather it is school for social sciences ...see the brochure of tiss hrm ...the hrm course has marketing n finance subjects as well...
wen u apply for psu's they do mention mba/ma in hr i saw it in many companies like iocl, ongc etc...
so dont worry much abt mba/ma dgeree boss.....in that case even iim's offer diploma not degree in that case should iim students worry abt not gettin degree ...think

hi i agree wid karthik nowdays hr is being seen as a strategic partner so d need of knowledge of finance and marketing is a must..tiss lacks in tht aspect i think..coz its whole course is based on hr..but if any1 wants to specialize in hr itself its best course after xlri pmir..
so guys any clue hw many ppl were in all called for gd pi..my estimate is arund 430...taking d absentess into account..
