hi friends,
like all of you i m also aspiring for tiss. i have joined pt education in indore for the same. now a few days back i met my mentor at pt and asked him abt tiss selection process. i thought it will b gud enuf if i share it wth u ppl
so here it goes
Tata Institute of Social Sciences - Mumbai
TISS offers the following master's programs
1. M. A. in PM&IR
2. M. A. in Social Work
Normally TISS conducts its selection procedure in the third or last week of january. However the catch is that anyone who wants to take the test needs to go to Mumbai. The details of the course are as follows.
MA in PM&IR
This course is what has now come to be known as HR. There are 30 seats in all, out of which 22.5% are reserved for S.C/ S.T candidates. In industry, this course is rated at par with the PM&IR course of XLRI. The placement scene is extremely good and all major companies come to campus. If anyone is looking for a specialization in PM&IR then he/she should definitely be applying to XLRI, TISS and maybe SCMHRD.
Selection procedure:
The selection procedure has two stages;
1. Essay writing, Objective test and a G.D
2. Personal Interview
The Essay writing & Objective test is of 60 marks. Time limit is 45 minutes. There is more emphasis on content than on quantity. The topics for the essay are generally socio/economic/politically relevant For ex: Liberalization, Privatization of education etc.
The objective test is for 15 minutes and has 60 questions. But the questions are very easy. There are 5 - 7 Quant question, around 10 English questions and the remaining are situation based questions, which are basically meant to check out what sort of a person you are.
Try to be as honest as possible while answering these questions.
This is followed by a G.D where again the topics are socio/economic/politically relevant. The G.D is for 30 minutes and is for 40 marks. There are around 10 - 12 people in each group.
So Stage 1 i.e. Essay writing, Objective test & G.D has 100 marks. Anyone who gets more than 55 in this stage are called for the next stage i.e.- Personal Interview.
The interview is for 70 marks. The questions are not at all technical i.e. they don't ask you about labour laws or trade unions etc, etc. The interview is a profile interview, they have a particular profile in mind and they are checking whether you match that profile. So the key is to remain as honest as possible. Brushing up a few fundas like what does PM&IR mean, which are the major trade unions in India and what are their political affiliations etc, may help.
Your previous academic record (graduation) has a weightage of 30 marks. Out of the total of 200 (100 + 70 +30) they take out a merit list and the top 30 are selected.
P.S. i m not sure if this is the same process to b followed this year too
