Hi puys,
I am in a real quandary right now. I got an admit for SPJCM dubai-singapore in Investment Banking specialisation and have paid the initial deposit of 1 lac. On friday, 21st april, I got the mail from LD Mago regarding my selection in IIFT Kolkata centre. Since (most likely) the kolkata list will serve as the IIFT delhi waiting list, there is a semblence of chance of finally making it to IIFT Delhi. During the period when I had only SPJCM offer in hand I was gearing myself up that this 1-yr course in Investment Banking would be ideal for me as I 'll get back to corporate world 1 year earlier and hence gain more exp. But now this IIFT Kolkata offer has certainly made me rethink on that. Things like market acceptance of a 2-yr conventional MBA and an established brand has made me rethink.
Now, I want u ppl to guide me on what to do in each of the following cases:
1. If I somehow get IIFT Delhi
2. If I get IIFT Kolkata and not IIFT delhi.
I know that its only me who has to walk the path but fellow puys can always show the path.
My profile:
Std X :93.6 % (ICSE)
Std XII : 82.2 % (Punjab SEB)
B.Tech. (Comp. Sc.) from NIT, Jalandhar
Working in TCS for past 20 months
Decent extra-curriculars.
One year MBA would mean shelling out more money at one go, but by my calculations over a period of 5 yrs, financially it would be atleast equal to the returns from 2 yr MBA.
Waiting for ur opinions

Hi m_handa,
I feel IIFT kolkatta is definitely a better bet than SPJAIN,Dubai. Since u will have most of the faculty from Delhi coming down to Kolkatta and also the placements being common for both( not very sure about this) and looking at your workexp. it is always better to go for a 2 year MBA course. I feel 1 year MBA course serves well for guys with 4 & above workex.

If money is not a constraint, then go to Dubai-Singapore. It would provide you with a better exposure.

Mohit | i feel that 1 year course is the way to go
salaries are good, and cost of investing 1 year more is a lot once u are in corporate world
u can always get more returns froma 1 year course and spjcm has good brand
plus u can get better exposure and a world wide perspective of opportunities Regards,
