Hello friends,

I have one question. Could not find any relevant thread so started this thread. When institutes declare final calls many students pay the fees to secure the seat even if they are expecting some better calls. Now, if final date of refund of fees has already passed and a candidate doesn't take refund of his fees. Later this cadidate gets through a better school. Now since he is not going to get any refund so he does not intimate the old school that he will not be joining their school. Now then the old school will come to know that he is not joining only after the session starts. So will they give final calls to other candidates after session has started or what's the senario in such cases.

The schools must be having some mechanism to avoid such situations. If there is any mechanism then what is it?

please help me out with this query.

I think this is exactly the reason y some of the seats do remain vacant in some institutes..:satisfie:

iwillmakeit has raised a very imporatant and valid point and destinationsunil added some of the seats remain vacant.i think tht is injustice to many deserving candidates. supposedly 6-7 good institutes have 3-4 seats vacant tht means around 20-25 students loosing out.thats not fair.
i was thinking of starting this thread. may be there should be some regulatory body or some law by which every school has its fees payment date in 1 week for eg 15-22 april is fee payment dates for all institutes this way no seats empty and also students wont have to pay fees at more than 1 college which they have to do sometimes because of iims or mdi results coming late. i hope this makes sense

Is there some mechanism which B schools follow. People who r in such a situation - are u guys asked by the institute to intimate the institute finally that whether u r joining or not say 2 weeks before course commencement. Also as B schools ask for candidates original certificates so if a candidate wants to shift to other school then he needs to take them back. Probably then the institutes come to know that he is leaving.

So I am still thiniking and doubt whether final calls are given after course commencement or start of session.

Well.. Even institues cant do anything about it evn if they ever want to.. The reason is that they hav to draw the line somewhr.. thr is sth like a last date of admission after whch there will be no admissions come wht may.. coz the courses hav already been started.

If a person who has submitted his fee at some X institute n does report on some reporting day n doesnt come thereafter to refund his fee.. He is not withdrawing his admission.. n the officials cant rule him out..

One mechanism is that the candidate has to take back his marksheet atleast when he is withdrawing from the institute.

Don't take my words on face value on this matter because I want to know about this and I am not sure how the system works.

Moreover I have never been in such a situation. I am adding a poll to this thread

Infact, till few years back SCMHRD used to do that.. Bt last yr (My batch) 5-6 seats were left empty due to the same reason.. I think instis keep a provision for the same.. Dunno much abt others..

@divys, So till what time were they giving final calls to the students on the merit list(students who were not in the waitlist even).

i think this problem arises because candidates don't normally have to submit any certificates/testimonials before term starts and hence if someone drops out after paying the first installment and thereby confirming his seat then mostly it goes vacant. there should be a mechanism wherein candidates should be asked to confirm their admission by submitting some doucuments, etc so that seats aren't left vacant and deserving students aren't left out.
