wat do ppl against indian collgs opening arms abroad have to stay about tht,,,,a colg like icfai has 3600 seats ..thts twice all the iims...even they find takers...ppl(barring a few) headin off to the states,uk or ne other place are as serious as nebody about there career but due to lack of options sum compromises need to be made ....
we cud have 10 more iims and we'd still need more but the point is we dont !!

I could not agree with the game player more, Dubai has attracted great attention the world over. Its reputation is really growing by the day.IMT Dubai is definitely gonna match SP Jain Dubai in placements(SP jain's average salary is around 9 lakhs INR).If you want to work in a finance or retail related field not to mention the logistics field then Dubai is the place to be.

We live in a consumer society after all, and the retail industry plays a huge part in our daily lives. Retail is big business, employing about 15 million people in the United States alone, or nearly 12 percent of all U.S. jobs. Many opportunities exist in retail beyond ringing up merchandise behind a cash register. Retail also has opportunities for people interested in determining what goods will be sold, getting these goods to the right place at the right time, and managing the operations, finances, and administration of retail companies. For anyone interested in a career in retail, this guide will tell you what you need to know to prevail in your job search.

Dubai's retail boom to provide boost in business for related industries

A four-fold boom in retail space, expected in Dubai by 2010, is creating new business opportunities for support industries in the Middle East's shopping sector, says a leading industry expert.

With retail space in the city set to rise to 20 million square feet in six years time, related industries - ranging from software management organizations to cleaning firms - are tipped to experience a significant boost in activity.

'Dubai is already known as the shopping center of the Middle East, and in years to come it will be known as the shopping mall of the world,' said Ole Milan, Managing Director of Landsteinar GCC - a company that specializes in providing retail software solutions.

'The expansion of retail space in Dubai is going to have a positive impact on the emirate's overall economy. In the short-term, construction and design companies will benefit from the boost in building activity.

'In the future, companies specializing in everything from retail software and mannequins to cleaning firms and interior decorators will also benefit from the trickle-down affect.'

Additionally, new retail developments will contribute to rising tourism numbers to the emirate, says Milan. Coinciding with the 400 percent increase in retail space in 2010, the emirate is preparing to welcome around 15 million tourists by the end of that year.

'If Dubai does manage to boast more than 20 million square feet of shopping space by 2010 then there is no doubt that it will be an even bigger tourist attraction than it already is.'

Since establishing a regional base in Dubai last year, Landsteinar - an organization that provides business software to the shopping sector - has already worked with Spinneys Supermarkets, Bahrain Duty free and Beirut Duty free to streamline sales, billing, and back-office operations.

'At Landsteinar, our business in the Middle East is set for double-digit growth, as we cater to the needs of the many new retail outlets that are going to make an appearance in the region,' said Milan.

'As a relatively new organization in the region, we believe that the next five years are going to be an exciting, buoyant and challenging as we meet the demands of a constantly expanding market.'

The company, which offers a complete retail solution based on Navision applications from Microsoft Business Solutions, expects its Mobile Client product to be popular with innovative and forward thinking retailers.

To be introduced to the Middle East this year, Mobile Client enables retailers to access and run the software from a hand held computer, allowing employees away from their desk to be kept informed with relevant and updated business information.

'Companies such as Landsteinar will be called on to offer services and solutions for the expanding retail market in Dubai and in the wider Middle East region. We welcome the opportunity to bring our expertise into the growing retail sector,' Milan concluded.

Re: imt dubai campus - 19-08-2006, 11:59 PM

'The retail sector in the Middle East is currently experiencing an unprecedented growth, thanks to the booming economies of the region,' said Mr. Saif Al Midfa after the inauguration ceremony.

'The expansion of the retail sector, however, has brought along intense competition, in the process forcing the region's retailers to adopt new strategies and also pay close attention to customers' search for individuality, customisation of services, and store design details among others,'

he added.

Mr. Saif Al Midfa further said that the Retail Middle East exhibition, which was showcasing the complete range of store design, shop fittings/equipment, retail IT & communication, retail signage, visual merchandising, P-O-P, and retail franchising opportunities for the Middle East retail industry, was primarily aimed at equipping the Middle East retailer with technology and solutions that would help him cope with growing competition in the sector.

The retail industry in the Middle East, especially in the GCC States, is one of the fastest growing in the world. It is estimated that the GCC has a potential of 9.4 million square metres of retail space. Of this, Dubai accounts for a major share. By 2009, retail activities in shopping centres in Dubai are expected to contribute over 50 percent to the country's GDP.

The UAE, which dominates the Gulf shopping mall sector at present, is expected to record a 145 percent growth in Gross Leasable Area (GLA) to 2.7 million square metres or 0.57 square metres per capita by the end of 2006.

There are several new shopping mall projects that are currently underway in the UAE, mostly in Dubai. These include the Mall of Arabia, Dubailand, Dubai Festival City, Dubai outlet Mall, Burj Dubai Complex, Dubai Pearl, and the Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence.

The Retail Middle East exhibition, with its exclusive and unique show profile, will be a one-stop sourcing platform for the region's relentlessly growing retail industry.

Among the major participants at this year's Retail Middle East Exhibition are Germany's Wanzl Metallwarenfabrik GMBH, Austria's UMDASCH, UAE-based Tensator, Italy's MGM Store Solutions, Singapore's ETP International, UAE-based EMPA Middle East, Eden Industries and Oracle from UK, USA-based Curves for women, and France's Caddie.

Countries from which most of the companies are participating in the current edition of the exhibition are Austria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, UK, and the UAE.

Besides cutting-edge concepts, technology, and solutions, some of the other highlights of the Retail Middle East Exhibition this edition are the Retail IT seminar and the Retail Professional's conference.

The IT seminar, which was held after the opening ceremony of the Retail Middle East Exhibition, covered the issues of RFID, Digital signage at Retail, and Retail store and restaurant management software. Among the speakers who addressed the seminar were Mr. Graham Newland, Senior Director, Oracle Retail, EMEA - United Kingdom, who talked about transforming the Economics of Retailing, and Mr. Ahmed El-Ridi, General Manager, of UAE-based Specialized Software Services, who threw light on digital signage revolution in store communication.

The second edition of the annual Retail Professional's Conference will be held on April 18th.

The Conference, to be addressed by leading experts in the global retail industry, will focus on several important issues including global retail trends, impact of customers' emotions on sales, latest developments in retail technology, and strategy formulation and implementation in retail setups.

Among the speakers who will be addressing the Conference are Ms. Kate Ancketil, Managing Director of the UK-based GDR Creative Intelligence, Dr. Christian Mikunda, an Austria-based dramatist and psychologist, and Dr. Lynda Wee, Director of the Singapore-based Centre for Innovation and Enterprise.

Retail Middle East Exhibition will mainly attract potential franchisees, architects, designers, consultants brand managers, retail shop owners, and retail industry professionals from across the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region.
