First of all i appreciate your theme for the poll. My name is Jayakrishnan.S. Iam doing my PGPRM in XIMB. The areas / Sectors for Rural managers are a) Agribusiness b) micro finance& insurance c) Development . But commodity trading is also sector which rural managers exploring now. FMCG sector is also a potential area for RM because RM has a specialised course Rural marketing to cater the needs of FMCG sector. But now the booming sector is Microfinance and Insurance. In most of the Rural management institutes banks,MFI(Micro finance institutions like SKS,Basix) are the main recruiters. So the need of Rural management professionals are increasing over the years

Hi Ashish,

Great initiative dude. I have passed out as a General MBA from PUMBA with Rural Marketing just being a part of the maha sagar MBA curriculum. The faculty we had, Dr S W Bhave, an IIM A alumnus, did do great service to the subject and arouse interest amongst a lot of my batchmates; many did realize that Rural markets just cannot be neglected.

But somehow I felt that my learning was hampered (or should I say halted) post my getting recruited in a Fortune 100 MNC and maybe today I just do not have the time to get back to the subject in detail. Maybe this thread could lead to a lot of learning for me, help me gain better insight into the upcoming marketing initiatives in Rural markets. I appreciate the objective and initiative taken.

I look forward to loads of learning from the forthcoming discussions on this thread.

Hi Ashish,

I am a passout of the 2006 batch of Marketing+Finance at PUMBA. I am working as Asst Manager-Product Marketing at Honeywell International and am responsible for Vendor Management, Marketing Communication, Demand forecasting and Product Pricing and assortment. (7 Months)

Honeywell is a Fortune 71, hardcore automation, technology and manufacturing company majorly in 4 broad lines of business-
1) Aviation
2) Automation and control solutions
3) Specialty Materials
4) Transportation Systems.

As far as my current exposure and company characteristics are concerned, Honeywell is in no ways related to the rural markets.
