sorry to all the followers of the thread and the rural managers to be, for this long hibernation. Well i have finished my PGPRM frm IRMA this year and will b joining ITC in JUne.

@think tank
well i do not know much about xiss ranchi but have a fair bit of Idea abt TISS which i guess is ranked above XISS. But i wud not recommend any of the above two colleges for someone interested in Rural Management. But since u say u didn't make the cut then i guess u can try for TISS where their MSW (social work) is a good programme for anyone interested in working for voluntary organisations.

There is another institute by the name of Kalinga Institute for Rural Mgmt. started by ex faculty of IRMA and i heard tht they have a good system in place.

I am sorry for replying so late but hope my answer would be of some help to u...

Just taking a it a bit forward from wat ashish said.TISS is an amazing institute and the best in the country for people wanting to do social work. However rural management is completely different from MSW.Their focus as well as objectives dont really match except for the fact that graduates of both the courses are extremely important to the voluntary sector. However instutes like XIMB,KSRM are good for students wanting to pursue rural management.Understanding the diff between the courses might be of big help. Also TISS has other courses like development studies, social entrepreneurship..both dese courses again have diff focus and objectives.

I used to think he was quite intelligent, in my stupidity. The reason I did was because he knew quite a lot about entrepreneurship and was also one of those IIM and IIT guys. If somebody knows quite a lot about those things, it takes you quite a while to find out whether they're really stupid or not.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences and National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN)

presents

ANKUR -the Entrepreneurship Challenge@Manthan 2008.
ANKUR The Entrepreneurship Challenge-Dare to Dream the Dream of Development!

Featuring in Manthan for the first time, the Entrepreneurship Event happening in collaboration with NEN, is a contest with a vision. The Event is being held with an idea to support and encourage the young entrepreneurs in India. Keeping in mind the country’s current needs, Ankur this year stands for - “Think Profit, Foster Development”. Entrepreneurship has always led transformation in society by generating innovative
ideas and implementing them pragmatically. Today, as India enters the new
phase of development ,the challenges are not only for the industrial but also for the social sector.
ANKUR plans to question the new breed of Entrepreneurs on whether their venture plans can cater to the issues of development in India. It calls for the Challengers to apply market-based approach to an enterprise/venture in order to positively impact the Bottom of the Pyramid.
Participants are expected to send in their venture plan based on the above mentioned theme. To mentor the shortlisted teams, a two day Boot Camp (Prerna) would be conducted in TISS Campus two weeks prior to the final event. Here, a panel of experts will mentor the participants and help them improvise their plans. The final presentations would be on the first day of Manthan that is 18th of September 2008.

Phase I: Prayaas: This phase will call for entries from budding entrepreneurs across Management and other institutions in the country. These entries would essentially be business plans with focus on addressing developmental issues in India. Through an initial screening process, top 5 entries would be chosen. The top entries will proceed to the Phase II and III (non elimination)

Phase II: Prerna - The Boot Camp: This phase will provide the top 5 entries from Prayaas a common platform to interact with each other and experts from the field of Entrepreneurship and Business. The aim of Prerna is to provide mentorship to the short-listed teams. This phase would provide valuable business/entrepreneurial insights to the participants, which would go a long way in nurturing the entrepreneur in them.

Phase III: Prarambh: This phase is a queer name for the final round of an event, but there is reason why the name is as it is. The event will mark an end to the competition, but will mark the “beginning” of a journey. The presentations of the ideas along with implementation plan will be adjudicated by the judges from the sponsoring organization, academia, experienced entrepreneurs and business personalities.
The journey of entrepreneur-ship shall sail from hereon…....
