I did not apply for both HRM & MSW.
But, my room mates at TISS (last yr, TISS provided accomodation for 2 days) informed the way they were interviewed. Some of them, belonged to engg background. Although I don't remember everything, I still recollected some questions & posted them.

last yr, the procedure was different.
A total of 5000 candidates were called for both HR & MSW>
the process went on for 10 days, testing 500 people each day (the 500 people from both PMIR & MSW.
On the day I appeared for TISS exam, a total of 26 for PMIR & 14 for MSW were shortlisted for PI.
After the PI, total intake remained the same, 30 in no.
No waitlists were put last yr. All the seats were confirmed bythe end of 2nd day. From 3rd day, TISS assigned them hostel.
I last hopes n started for CAT 2005 preparation.
That is the story.
Anyway, start for ur GD & PI.

Now, its the time to prepare for your GD/PI.
Please do not take it as a casual one, coz, TISS will test you whether you are suitable for HR & social services.
Last year, I was there for the GD/PI. This year, I had my GIM GD/PI on the same day. So, I did not give TISS entrance test. (competition came down, isn't it?)
Let me tell you about the GD first of all.
There were 10 members in my batch (5 girls & 5 boys)
The seating positions were fixed and i was sitting just next to the moderators' table.
They will have a good chance to see your body movements. So, pls avaoid casual & careless body language. Take care of your hand & body movements. Try to look relaxed and composed.
There were 2 moderators sitting (1 lady & 1 gentleman)
They introduced themselves and gave very clear directions like: hve a good GD, nevet try to dominate othrs, it leads to disqualification etc. Try not to make it a fish market.
We were given 2 topics to discuss. Total time to arrive at the consensus and the discussion itself was 20 min.
Don't forget to carry a white paper along with you.
The topics were
1). Solar Energy, Oil Energy or Nuclear Energy: which one of them viable for world's future demand?
2). Should India and Pakistan have people to peope contacts?
My group has chosen the first topic. Many of them were hurry to go for a stance. I stopped them, defined the meaning of energy, solar, oil & nuclear.I defined the nature of these energies and their uses. I spoke for 2 min flat. The group carried on those points for the next 5-6 min. In between , there was a fish market situation. Moderator intervined and warned us. Since then, I directed the GD in a smoother manner.
I said my points and spoke for 2-3 min. My last point was amazing, i said about the disadvantages by choosing one energy. I summed up the GD and finally i was able to convince everyone that one energy is not goin to be viable for the entitre world's demand.
End of the day, only 26 members from 500 members were shortlisted for PI. (last year, the shortlisting was based on essay test & GD)
There were 3 members from my group includin myself in the 26 members list.
I am posting my PI experiences in the next post. | Dont DRINK and drive....you might jus hit a bump and spill it. | | | | | | | |

i was a mech engineer.
They asked me y not get into the tech job that I was doin? y HR?
I told them that I was inspired my sister & aunt (which is true). They have done their HR and made a mark for themselves in the orgs they r working for.
They asked me..
what r the orgs they are workig for?
they asked me what changes u observed in them after their MBA?
I said: confidence, very good communication, change in their body language, patience & ability to convince etc..
I also told them that my success at work place can be attributed to my team formation, my initiatives, my effective planning & execution, my convincing the labor at shop floor, in a nut shell, my 'managing' them & my good relations with them etc..
(is it looking like artistic? but, such a thing happened)
For the question, if u r not selcted?
pls, be prepared. This will be there.
I don't know whether my answer was valid...
I said that I will go to my designing side, analyse my mistakes that I have done in my prep and will be next year here again.
(does it shows that I am not confidant?)
So, these were my answers.
But, pls consult with others like ur seniors @ MBA colleges, ur coaching centre etc..

If u get down at Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus, catch a local train from Harbour line (platform 1 & 2)
Catch any train goin to PANVEL, BELAPUR, MANKHURD & VASHI.
Don't get down at Chembur. Go to Govandi.
TISS is very near to this station.
Auto must cost u between 10-15 Rs.
Also, u have many busses from dadar, mumbai central, bandra.
I don't know their nos.
In case u have any difficulty, contact TISS. They will be there to give guidance.

Hello friends..
this is a reply to some of the PMs that i received..
many of them were concerened abt whether GD is an elimination round or not.
Its true that 766 candidates were called for the GD/PI, 130 per day.
But, I can guess (only guess n nothin else) as per what happened last yr.
There were 65+ interviews on the first day, 55+ interviews the second day, 60+ on the 3rd day & just 26 on the 4th day (i was one amon them). On the day when my PI was scheduled, they did not find any problem as there were only 26 candidates. But, the first 3 days, they had a tough time, conducting very very late in the evening.
So, interviewing 130 candidates per day is always goin to be trouble some.
So, the GD could be an alimination round.
even if it is not, if u r an under performer, chances will be remote as there are very few seats.
So, try ur level best.

thank you....
i am preparing for these answers....i am a little tensed about gd though, coz this will b my first gd experience......and i didnot opt for any coaching institutes, im preparing myself, discussing with friends and stuff......
seniors@tiss like arun da has also been of great help...once again thanks...
my gd /pi is on 14th april, since i will be travelling w/o my parents, im accompanying another TISS aspirant who has gd/pi on 13th, so i will reach there a day earlier...though i have mailed the hostel quite a few times abt accomodation, they have not replied.......
one more thing i want to know is that do we need the originals or photocopies of all the certificates and mark sheets in this round...... Quote: |
