It would be very difficult to get a call at 1776 since last year the process closed at 1450, but then i believe you should take a chance and apply.
You never know what turn things will take since the process is so dynamic. Better to spend 500 now than repent later.

i was reading somewhere (probably in the IITD thread) that around 60% weightage is given to the marks and not to the ranks in JMET in most of the IITs although only IITR specifies that in its brochure

I did my bachelors in electrical engineering and my rank is almost around yours. So i think i can help u a bit
The weightages given to the parameters mentioned by you will be decieded by the selection committe constituted by the department. So we cannot accurately say as to how much weightage is given to what ...etc. I suggest that you be optimistic and prepare for the GD/PI process. Since your work experience is less than 1 year, there is a high chance that u may be asked questions in the subjects covered in your B.tech course. Do revise your subjects u have done in btech.......in an application oriented way..and some engg maths as well

i have been following this thread for a while. thank u for the guidace u have provided i got all my queries resolved without asking any of it until now. Now i have a query which i didnt come across in this thread.
I have a rank of 554 and planning to apply to iitk. i have 2.2 yrs of workex till date in mainframes. I dont remember an iota of my engineering. (my back ground is in electronics and communications. ). please let me know if the interview is skewed towards acads subjects for guys with workex? can u also let me know typical questions asked in interview for a guy with my profile?

Hi Sameera,

Anything between 400-500 calls are generally sent inviting candidates for Group Discussion and Personal Interviews. There is no waitlist for this stage of the admission process.

Since you have work ex of greater than 2 years, the general trend in MBA Interviews is that u will be asked questions about your work profile and some knowledge about the organisation where u r working....any recent happenings in your organisation etc. regarding acads, u may be asked in the area relavant to ur work ex and that too you may be asked application oriented questions. As you know, these are predictions from our side.
