can u tell me how much out of 200 will be sufficient to get call.is there sectional cut off nd how much to get in social section 4 cut off.

This volume of GK for MBA 2008 will cover some of the areas that are relevant to Issues of social concern for upcoming IRMA exam. IRMA has one section dedicated to these types of questions. The questions focus heavily on India’s agriculture scenario, state of rural development and government schemes focusing on these two. This post, is first in series of posts covering Issues of social concern.
  • Indian Economy at A Glance:-
    • Population: 1.138 billion (2007)
    • GDP growth rate (2007-0: 8.7% (Source :Economic Survey | RBI)
    • GDP growth rate (2006-07): 9.6% (Source :Economic Survey | RBI)
    • Total food grain production(200 : 227.3 Million Tonnes as against 217.3 MT in 2006-2007
    • Gross Domestic Saving (GDS) : as percentage of GDP at current market prices, was placed at 34.8 per cent in 2006-07 as compared with 34.3 per cent in 2005-06.
    • Foreign Exchange reserves: US $313 billion (as in June 200
    • Exports (2006-07): US $127 billion, Growth Rate: 20.9 %
    • Imports (2006-07): US $192 billion, Growth Rate : 21.59 %
  • Human Development Index:-
· The Human Development Index (HDI) is an index combining normalized measures of life expectancy, literacy, educational attainment, and GDP per capita for countries worldwide. The index was developed in 1990 by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq and Sir Richard Jolly, with help from Gustav Ranis of Yale University and Lord Meghnad Desai of the London School of Economics. India was placed at 126 in HDI report 2006 and it slipped to 128 in the latest edition. This list is topped by Norway, followed by Iceland and Australia.
· National Literacy Mission:-

NLM is government of India’s initiative to drive up literacy in India. The mission had a target of 75% literacy by 2007 end. According, to last census report national literacy stood at 64.84%, with 75.26% male literacy and 53.67% female literacy. Bihar is the worst of all states with these three figures at 47.00%, 59.68% and 33.12%. Kerala, the most literate state, had corresponding figures of 90.86%, 94.24% and 87.72% respectively.
· National Rural Employment Guarantee :-

The act was acted on August 25, 2005. The NREGA provides a legal guarantee for one hundred days of employment in every financial year to adult members of any rural household willing to do unskilled manual work at the statutory minimum wage. Central Government meets the cost towards the payment of wage, 3/4 of material cost and certain percentage of administrative cost. State Government meets the cost towards unemployed allowance, 1/4 of material cost and administrative cost of State council. According to NREGA guidelines, following are the core objectives of the programme,
o Strong social safety net for the vulnerable groups by providing a fall-back employment source, when other employment alternatives are scarce or inadequate Growth engine for sustainable development of an agricultural economy.
o Through the process of providing employment on works that address causes of chronic poverty such as drought, deforestation and soil erosion, the Act seeks to strengthen the natural resource base of rural livelihood and create durable assets in rural areas. Effectively implemented, NREGA has the potential to transform the geography of poverty.
    • Empowerment of rural poor through the processes of a rights-based Law.
    • New ways of doing business, as a model of governance reform anchored on the principles of transparency and grass root democracy.
  • Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana:-
According to PMGSY website, the scheme was launched by the Govt. of India to provide connectivity to unconnected rural Habitations as part of a poverty reduction strategy. Government of India is endeavoring to set high and uniform technical and management standards and facilitating policy development and planning at State level in order to ensure sustainable management of the rural roads network. In the first phase, habitations (hamlets) of population of 1000 (500 in the case of Hill States, tribal and Desert areas) and above will be covered. In the second phase habitations of population of 500(250 in the case of Hill States ,tribal and Desert areas ) will be covered. About 368,000 km of new road construction and 370,000 km of upgradation/renewal is expected to be done at a cost of about $26 billion.
