Meeting with Prof Kamat - 19-09-2005, 11:38 AM

Hi All,

It was a long, ardous journey to Prof. Kamat's place in Yari Road, Andheri. I stay at Khopar Khairane. It was an hour and half long bike ride to reach his place. But, it was worth it. I had a long chat with him and in general discussed my profile with him. He told me about himself and about TISS. The specifics that are relevant to you all are in the below mentioned paragraph.

From what I gather from the interaction from him is that he is a pro at training for GDs and PIs. Last year all of his 24 students who appeared for IIMs got calls from at least one of the IIMs. This is a very big achievement according to me. But he mentioned as a matter-of-fact. That tells you about the caliber and the kind of training/coaching he provides.

Specific to TISS, in 2003 out of the 21 seats available to open-category, 6 were his students. He attributes his success to the rigirous training he provides, but at the same time asserts that just his training will only get you so far. Individual efforts and drive will take you all way. His students have not done very well in the last two years. Primarily because of the kind of students he has been training. As mentioned before, his coaching will take you only so far. Rest is upto the student; how committed the student is and more importantly how badly he wants to be at TISS. As for me, TISS is not the just another choice, IT IS MY ONLY WAY OUT of the rut that I am in currently.

At the end of it all, I had a very fruitful discussion with him and look forward to being coached by him. I am not a very rich man. I earn my living and if I have to pay 16,000/- out of it, it pinches. But, its better than having that 16,000/- with me and not going anywhere.

Well, he lives in Mumbai. So right now he is constrained by the location to deliver his coachings. He has advertised in a the WEST SIDE PLUS, as suppliment with The Times of India. Hence, I can give you all his contact details. Do get in touch with him and he will be more than happy to talk to you. His mobile no. is +91-982-019-4068.

Regarding the ESSAYS, lets start posting essays. I will try to write an essay and post tomorrow on http://babubhaskaran.blogspot.com. Please do visit and comment on my postings.

Ramanathan: I truly appreciate your inputs and want to thank you. When you got less than 1 in 100 chances of success, you welcome, beg for, any bit more information that comes to you. Thanks Ramanathan.

Thanks
Babu Bhaskaran

Hallo - 21-09-2005, 11:38 AM

Hi all...

Just a small correction to Arun's posting...even if you cannot afford the student delegate fee, we have sponsorships who wud be paying on your behalf * But yeah conditions apply* So if u r interested do mail me/arun and we can see if we can work a way around..Of course if ur working u do need to pay 2.5K

As for the site it is not the updated one..its of last year...But there are all major information in general is there and wud answer most of geneal question...But for placements that happened last year.....The highest was 9.2, lowest abt 4.5 and avg was 5.5-6 Lac/annum....These r approx. figures....Arun if u have the correct info plz share with them....

With Arun around, am sure PGites wud benefit a lot...He is them Most enthu guy of the PM& IR (Batch of 2005-2007)....Come on Buddy...

Do check the last year PG postings on TISS (2005-2007) , you wud get loads of indo and also we had a yahoogroups mum_tiss, last year...check for the posting there as well...

Cheers
Ramanathan

And More Interesting Info....................... - 22-09-2005, 11:22 PM

HEY FOLKS,

Thats great. Some much needed action on this thread..............

Thanks Babu for your views on KAMAT`S ACADEMY.

Inspired by your comments, I too met this gentleman at his resid.

Must admit that he is a complete pro, articulate, matured and above all a TISS product himself. What I liked most was his vast experience and expertise in grooming students over the last 10 years, yet the humility that he oozes, which puts one at ease. I understand that in the last 7 years, his CAT success rate is almost a perfect 10. I have enrolled with him for the CAT GD/PI batch commencing end Nov.

Now thru my friends and their friends, got a few GD topics that did TISS rounds 3 to 4 years back. Have listed them below:

(1) When the Cat is out, the rats are in.

(2) Management is all about relationships.

(3) Environmental protection- A piped dream?

(4) Ecotourism- The need of the hour?

(5) Women make better managers than men.

Friends: Could you recommend good essay books????

With CAT around the corner, have to rush back to RC/Math/DI.

Bye.

CHEERS.
