Re: Tiss (2006-2008) - 15-04-2006, 09:44 AM

Hi Everybody.
I’ve been following this thread for long, though never could contribute much. I’ll pen down my GD/PI experience…

I attended the orientation session taken by 4 seniors at 8:30 am. They were on the premises throughout the day and were very helpful to nervous newbies. My GD started at 11. Topic- Terrorised silence and flip-flops have reduced the credibility of witnesses. 8 members. The GD threatened to become noisy at times, but someone or the other backed off in time. I consciously chose to wait for at least 4-5 minutes before speaking. Spoke only twice but made 2-3 distinct points each time.

Interview was after a good 5 hrs later. Meanwhile, I went roaming around the campus. Met a few students from other streams who gave some gyan on the campus life and amenities available. Very friendly and frank.

Interview had a 3-member panel. Let’s call themP1, P2 and P3.

Me: Good afternoon gentlemen
P2: Good afternoon K. Please be seated. So…you work for X.
Me: yes sir
P2: You are in charge of the Y wing of the company
Me: yes sir
P2: You earn pretty well
Me:..er..yes sir.
P2: tell me about what u do
Me:…blah blah
P1: tell me about GATT and WTO. You had mentioned it as a subject in ur graduation
Me: Sir, my knowledge is very rudimentary
P1: That’s ok. Tell me what u know
Me: blah blah
P1: why do u think so many farmers are committing suicide?
Me: firstly because of natural causes like drought..
P1: but droughts have been occuring since a long time. What’s making farmers actually commit suicide?
Me: mounting debts are another reason, sir. Loans taken for agri-inputs are used up for consumption expenditures. So, burdens are piled upon existing burdens…
P1: How much do u think the Govt invests in agriculture?
Me: don’t know the exact figure sir
P1: approximate fig will do
Me: less than 10% sir
P1: nods.
Me: but the current Prime Minister seems to be taking many positive steps to help farmers…
P2: when u go to the field, don’t u face any resistance from the farmers?
Me: initially yes, sir. There is skepticism, but persistence usually wins them over…
P3: tell me one instance when ur work made a difference to farmers
Me: Spoke about a couple of incidents.

Then the discussion turned to one of my interests, Philosophy. After about a minute, we said our thank yous.

The panel was quite cordial. I felt a lil awed in their presence, though. The questions were directly related to my line of work or education. However, it was really hard to gauge their reactions. The waiting begins…

PS: Would like to thank Ramanathan for being so patient with all my queries.

Re: Tiss (2006-2008) my gd/pi - 15-04-2006, 11:19 AM

hi puys,

Sorry i could not post about my gd/pi. It was Baisakhi yesterday. Anyways i came back on the same day of the int. that is 13th. Guys praying really helped. Here are the topics for the gd.

1. Law cannot prevent sexual harrassment at workplace.
2. Militancy is a by product of rising global inequality.

We had a panel of 7 candidates(3 were absent). It was a 4 : 3 consensus and vote on the 2nd Topic. Choosing the topic through vote was good. I started and spoke well. Entered a lot of times. After the interview i thought i was dominant. There is -ve marking for this. But my panel members said it was not so. I just wanted to clear my doubt. Guys please make sure it is not a fish market. I thank god it was not so in our GD.

Now the interview. Guys try and remian patient throught. For me it was a long wait. But then the time arrived at around 4.30 in the afternoon. I kept praying all the while. My room no was III. There were four rooms where they were taking Interviews. It was a panel of two members interviewing me. One old man and the other middle aged.

The first question was a big trap. It was we do not understand where are you. I am born in Bihar.. Bought up In Pune... till my second year i was in BMCC, Pune. For a year i was in Indore running a factory after my 2nd year B.Com and i was doing my 3rd year from Tamil.(Distance Learning). They asked were are you. I answered very patiently Mumbai. If i had got this wrong I was out of the race.

They didnt undersatand from my form where I was from. The senior panelist was tried to understand it. I just remained assertive while he was speaking and nodded where ever required. And i said I am from Pune.

Then they grilled me on my Acads. I was prepared for it. Both the panelists asked me questions on my acads. In my acads there was another trap. The asked me what did you study in Economics. I named all the topics. Then they asked me what is Demand Function. I had never heard of it. Therefore I said dont know. I think there is no term in Economics as Demand Function. I said Sir I have not heard about it. They nodded. Then 2 or 3 Economics Questions. Answered them patiently. The younger panelist was quietly listening.

Then they asked me what have you been doing in the last Six months. I was expecting this question. I said I have been preparing for my management education and I have been Involved in Social and religious Activities in the last six months. This was also a trap. If i had said I am preparing for my M B A. I was out.

Then they asked me what do think of CAC(Capital Account Convertability). I answered it quite patiently. I was very lucky i had written some points about this issue when I had read about it from the Editorials. Another Question what is PE(Profit Earning). I knew about the recent SBI strike and the Editorials had all bout their PE Ratio of SBI. It is nothing but Profit Earnings Ratio of the Employees. These questions are current events. Luckily I had jotted down a few points on this topic from the Editiorials.

They also asked me What do you think are Indias Social Problems. I said Poverty. Therefore Education. I said we need Health and Insurance Sector Reforms.

And my interview was over. They also commented your Academics are good. I was very anxious before my Interview. After my Interview I was very happy. I think they covered everything that I had prepared for. One thing is sure every candidate will be asked questions from his Bio Graphical Sketch. The form which is to be filled asked me the same things I had written in my Bio Graphical Sketch. Therefore every Interview was different.

Before leaving I also asked them sir. I was expecting something Like Why Tiss ? Why Hr? They said they wanted to know my Acads.

It was a relaxed atmosphere. Infact there were two Bowls on the table which had Biscuits in it. If I knew this earlier I would definately asked the panelists to have one.

This is my GD/PI Experience. Guys I am praying for my chances to be selected. May God select me and everybody here.

It was new year Yesterday. Happy Baisakhi and Happy Bihu to all.

Re: Tiss (2006-2008) - 15-04-2006, 02:25 PM

hi every1........
this my first post on this thread
i hd my GD/PI on 12th n out of all the experiences i have read......nothin ws even close to what i experienced....

i am not sure wether to call it a stress interview but i am sure it was a disaster
mainly because the word MBA crept in.........n guess what.....i never mentioned it.....
smhw gangopadhya sir thought of it and he practically scolded me for wantin to do MBA........n poor me.....i never mentioned it or even gave a slightest hint of it.......(actuly i DO NOT want to do mba)
absolutely nothin in my interview from my acads or biographical sketch or why hr or my desire to switch from engg to HR or my curricular activities.......

jjust a few questions about why r the names of the cities being changed.....
about the honda problem........
about the merut fire.......n how could it have been prevented
actully .......gangopadhya sir would never let me complete my sentence........he always interrupted and seem to move on to the topic that had no relation with the first 1......
i think my interview went on for about 15-20 min.

nwys .......its over nw .......
have just written this coz i felt i had smthing to write which has not been mentined before.......
all the best every1....
