colleges offering Masters in Social Work.. - 03-09-2005, 09:22 AM

hi ppl....:smile:

for a looong time, i've tired to surf pg inside out for info on colls which offer Masters in Social Work(MSW)...but cud'nt get much info... :huh:

the few colls which offer this course or something close are
TISS, Bombay (well, the thread on TISS talks abt everything BUT MSW)
IRMA, Anand..(this apparently has more to do with rural management...but ..kinda fits the bill)
DSSW, Delhi ... delhi school of social work.

well...thats all i got frm google as well...:tellme:

i wish to join a coll that focuses on NGO management, ....etc.
BTW....me's an engg grad(or will b soon)..

so, here's calling junta to post whatever they know abt colls which offer MSW..and their rankings..

n what are the criteria for admission into these instis.

thankuuu...

Hey Pratyusha.....Howdy

Although I can't give ya an exact link, I distinctly recall reading an article in The Hindu sometime in the past few weeks...iirc, it was in the Education Plus supplement.... Might be a bit of work, but try going thro' the archives here..In case I come across the paper, shall let ya know...

Also I am not really sure how relevant this is, but do take a look at IIFM

Cheers

Info On Msw Programmes - 07-09-2005, 07:50 PM

Hi,

Gathered info from my friends on MSW programmes.

The best Institute is by far TISS. There are many courses (2 years dedicated programmes) offered. The specialisations are :

* CCA---CRIMINOLOGY & CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATION.

* MPSW..MEDICAL & PSYCHIATRIC SOCIAL WORK.

* URCD: URBAN & RURAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.

* FCW: FAMILY & CHILD WELFARE.

* MHA: MASTERS IN HEALTH ADMINISTRATION.

* SWA: SOCIAL WELFARE ADMINISTRATION.

Admission is quite competitive and through an ESSAY TEST, GD`s and then INTERVIEWS.

The selection process starts in first week of June and gets over within 2 weeks.

About 2000- 2500 students apply for all courses and of them about 300 get selected finally. Its tough and requires adequate prep.

The advert is out in DEC every year.

The next best Institute in Mumbai is NIRMALA NIKETAN. Again it has a similar screening process, but is much less competitive.

Thanks and regards.

CHEERS.

Msw Tiss - 10-09-2005, 07:44 AM

Hi Pratsy,

I personally dont know any MSW TISS students.

But yes my school pals who were in TISS (PMIR) and have now passed-out know their MSW pals.

Also my friend who was being groomed in GD/PI by a professional tutor and who is now in IIM-A, 1st year, knows this girl who was being groomed for TISS MSW as well as PMIR by the same tutor. I gathered from my pal that this girl made it to TISS (MSW) this year.

I can find out what you want to know from my IIM-A pal, who can touch base with the TISS girl. It might take some time as this IIM pal of mine is TOOOO BUSSSYYYYY.... now with her term end. Nevrtheless, too happy to help.

Thanks and regards.

CHEERS.
