Cet 2005!! Unjust To Mumbai Students!!

Hi dudes and gals,
the allocation under CAP was really unjust to students with home university mumbai !! i will show u how!!


college total seats home university other university oms

jbims 120 84 18 18

rule: college under mumbai univ will have 70% seats for home univ 15% for other univ & 15% for oms.

simsree 60 42 9 9

rule: colege under maharashtra gov will have 70% seats for home univ 15% for other univ & 15% for oms.

kj 120 42 9 9

rulevt college with lingusistic minority will have 50% seats under minority and management quota & among the other 50% seats 70% for home univ 15% for other univ & 15% for oms.

welin 120 60 18 18

rule: pvt college without minority quota will have 50% for home univ 15% for other univ & 15% for oms & 20% management quota.

che 60 30 9 9

rulevt college without minority quota will have 50% for home univ 15% for other univ & 15% for oms & 20% management quota.

sies 60 30 9 9

rulevt college without minority quota will have 50% for home univ 15% for other univ & 15% for oms & 20% management quota.

total 540 288 72 72


thus for every 288 students of home university there should be at least 72 students each of non-home university and oms

takin only maharashtra candidates into account if a person has 288 mumbai home university open rank his state rank should be at least 360 (288+72) !!

MY MUMBAI HOME UNIV OPEN RANK: 351 & STATE RANK ( IT SHOULD BE AT LEAST 440 FOR THE CAP ALLOTMENT IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH MERIT)

BUT MY STATE RANK IS 392 !!

THUS THE MUMBAI STUDENTS HAVE DOMINATED THE CET TO SUCH AN EXTENT THT THE ENTIRE HOME UNIVERSITY RULE WHICH HAS ORIGINATED SO THT STUDENTS HAVE A BETTER CHANCE TO GET TO LOCAL COLLEGES HAS BACKFIRED AGAINST MUMBAI STUDENTS!!

AND EVEN THOUGH MY STATE RANK IS 392 THE BEST I COULD GET IS MET WHILE A PERSON WITH STATE RANK 432 (HOME UNIV AMRAVATI ) GOT CHETNA!!


THE ACTUAL DISCREPANCY IS EVEN LARGER AS I HAVE CALCULATED ONLY FOR OTHER UNIVERSITY AND NOT THE OUTSIDE MAHARASHTRA STATE!!


SOLUTION: WHAT I WOULD SUGGEST TO COUNTER THIS DISCREPANCY IS HAVIN JUST 1 ALL INDIA RANK AND NO RESERVATION FOR OTHER UNIV OR OMS STUDENTS SO THT ALLOCATION IS ACCORDIN TO MERIT!!

sure boss.lets have a campaign.no kind of regional based reservation in CET? make it an All India level test where no preference to Maharashtra state candidates??? What do u say? guess what will be ur rank then??

I guess right now u r in a catch 22 situation...u want reservation for being a maharashtrian but u dont want quota for intra-maharashtrians!!!

u got the whole point wrong!! i did not mean converting the xam into all india!! but convertin the marks of ppl who appeared other xams and converted their score to CET score so tht seats can be allocated directly from the total seats without reservation of 15% for oms or non home univ !! tht would mean proper allocation accordin to merit!!

At the HSC level,practically every state down South has what boywonder is talking about ---- a distinction between state and outside state students(this is for admission into various courses on Engineering and Medicine)In fact AP has gone so far as to refuse admission to other states' candidates into Med,whereupon AP students are now not allowed to appear for the PM/PD test which is an all-India test.

Reservations galore within the state reservations exist with political partyies modifying rules according to their pre-poll promise. For e.g the 33% reservation for girls outright in AP for Engg though no such reservation in Medicine. A few pros but the cons are too heavy!!


Yeah I am from AP, hence the somewhat substantial reference to AP!!

thanks for bringing it to our notice!! other harassed students who have faced such an xperience where lower ranked students have got better college just coz of other university should come forward!!

Thats what I am saying.Ur rank is 392 i guess...so ur score may have been around 140..? an OMS candidate with this score will be getting some D-grade institute? isnt it?
My point is...abolish all quota.Turn CET into an all india exam like CAT,XAT etc.then everyone will be at equal level.and junta will get freedom from ancient application procedure!!!

What i see here, u want to take advantage of being a Maharshtra/Mumbai candidate but u r wary of the side effects of other quotas!!!
I think if u include OMS candidates also ....ur final rank will be below 500 and then u will not be even eligible for Sydenham.But since u r there right now...cut the crap and pay attention to ur course!!!

I second that.

The whole point of these reservations is so that people from the interiors get exposure.. It is an intrinsically biased system, and it is so on purpose. What one ought to see is if the bias is not extreme enough to affect a majority, or to lower the quality of intake.

For example, if the 15% IIM quota meant that people with 75%ile got through while 99%ile didn't then that would be wrong. But how can a quota system be effective without introducing atleast some bias towards the people it is meant to benefit..

In your case the margin is not that much. So if you're not satisfied perhaps you can try again next year?

i have got sydenham pg which conducted a separate xam for the same!! as i mentioned the best coll i was getting was MET under CAP!!

with the new supreme court rule ..... to be regulated from next year ...... the only quota will be for NRI 15% and rest 85% seats will be purely for open category many be SC/ST will continue to have thier quotas ....
but this is a break thruu information regarding AUTONOMOUS institiue and non aided colleges and there are 100 such in maharashtra .....

so guys if u dint make it this year a sigh of relief for all of uss .... atlast merit is getting some weightage in our country ... better late then never
