APPLICATION FORMS 2005 too costly - 06-08-2005, 12:55 PM

I want to start this thread to help those who are scared by the exhorbitant costs of the application forms and are confused as to what forms they should fill up given so many institutes and a small budget.....and who are there to do mba anyhow(IIMs or no IIMs as if I was interested only in that I wud have filled up CAT form and just shut up)

So i would like everyone to give suggestions as to which forms a person should fill up given the mock cat scores he is getting or expecting or anything for that matter......

I would break up into 4 slots based on percentile-----

A:-97+(xcpt IIms)

B:-93-97

C:-90-93

D:-85-90

so plz contribute--------guyz.....

my contri(if i am correct otherwise do correct me)
A:- xlri,mdi,spjain,fms

B:-imt,imi,ximb,scmhrd

C:-tapmi

I will keep on contributing but guyz contribute and dont make this thread dead.....

The issue of exorbitant costs of application forms certainly needs to be debated upon, wont start it here although. There are some points stated in the initiator's post which I think has an incorrect basis. Primarily the consideration of MOCK CAT scores in selecting which institute one should apply to.

MOCK CAT scores are mere indicators of one's preparation, a chance to decide what's strategy works best, what are one's core competencies and how to hone those crucial areas which are required on the D Day. The scores should not be used to decide which institute to apply to.

Applying to the institutes depends on many factors (most of you'll have a good idea about these). There is thread on which non IIM institutes to apply.

http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10021 (non - iim institutes : which ones do i apply to?)

I havent understood the grading done here and what purpose does it serve :whatthat: Most of these institutes dont accept CAT scores like XLRI,FMS,XIMB,SCMHRD etc.

The application processes to various institutes is money down the drain. Make a informed decision as to which all are the institutes you wish to apply to and pursue your MBA at.

In case of a Hobson's choice with MBA, keep track of the application deadlines eg: in case of TAPMI the last date is after the CAT exam, you can apply to it depending on how you fare in CAT, same is the case with MICA etc. This saves atleast some amount of money.

Your I can is more important than your IQ

I think the purpose of my thread was misunderstood. I was thinking of starting this thread as I beleive a person has some idea about what percentile he may acheive in cat,xat or any other exmas ...and if he applies for certain institutes which may be a bit out of reach and doesnt get any call then it wud be money down the drain.
Also I was starng this thread for those who wanna do mba this year
(IIMs or no IIMs).....so just being a bit realistic and asking for suggestions as to which form a person may fill up.........

Hi
This might be able to help you.Few days back i got this mail from a yahoo group urpercentile. Here it goes:

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR APPLYING TO MANAGEMENT
INSTITUTES : This is for reference only and the based on many
assumptions and past cut-offs so the outcome may or may not
be in accordance to the recommendation below.

Download the file named MgmtInstList.xls(contents given below) from our files section as the following will refer to it .We recommend to go alone by our recommendations and also use your best judgement.

A) If you expect your CAT score to be above 97 percentile you
may apply to 4 institutes among the top 10 and 2 institutes
ranked between 11 to 15 for back up purpose.

B) If you expect your CAT score to be above 94 percentile but
less than 97 percentile you may apply to 4 institutes ranked
between 6 to 20 and 2 institute ranked between 20 to 30 for back
up purpose.

C) If you expect your CAT score to be above 87 percentile but
less than 94 percentile you may apply to 4 institutes ranked
between 14 to 28 and 2 institute ranked between 29 to 35 for
back up purpose.

D) If you expect your CAT score to be above 83 percentile but
less than 87 percentile you may apply to 4 institutes ranked
between 24 to 35 and 2 institute ranked between 36 to 45 for
back up purpose.

Some institute may have sectional cut off also, that is you will be
required to get minimum percentile in certain or all sections.

HOW TO SELECT THE INSTITUTE TO APPLY :
1) Finalise the number of institute you will apply to, the number
of test that you are going to take and the amount of money you
are going to spend.
2) Understand what you deserve and what you desire, a
mismatch between what you can get and your expectation will
result in loss of time, money and effort only.
3) When you have taken around 5 Mock tests, it will give you a
fair idea of where you stand. You may give some benefit to
yourself as you still have around 4 months for preparation and
can improve a lot, but remember others also have the same
amount of time.
4) Apply to at least one institute for back up purpose where you
are sure to get call, if you necessarily have to start your MBA next
year.
