FAQs on Admission to SPJIMR, 1 yr Course

1. Minimum Eligibility Criteria for admission call

5+ yrs work ex till 31-Dec-09
Valid GMAT score (not more than 5 yrs old), CAT’08 or XAT’09 scores

For those who are applying through GMAT: Forms can be submitted without GMAT scores as well. GMAT can be taken at a later date & submitted to the institute on interview date.

1st shortlist (for interview calls) will be based on candidate’s profile only

2. Range of GMAT, CAT and XAT scores

Current batch range is:
GMAT: 600-750
CAT: 88%le +
XAT: 90%le +

3. Importance of various factors in admission

For 1 yr PGPM course, your previous work ex is the most important criteria apart from your past academics, extra curricular participation at school/college/company level & of course your score (GMAT/CAT/XAT). International work ex, if you have any, gives an added feature to the profile.
SPJ promotes and supports social activities a lot. So experience with an NGO will certainly help.

4. Average work ex of the current batch

70 months (5 yrs 10 months)

5. Profile of current batch

Current batch of 56 people has got an average work ex of 5 yrs and 10 months. Max work ex is of 9 yrs and 10 months while min is 4 yrs 6 months.
The batch is a good mix of people from across the industries including IT, Telecom, Automobile, FMCG, Power sector, Oil & Gas, Banking, Aerospace, Petrochemicals, Merchant Navy etc.
Batch is benefited by the diversified experience of its participants in companies like Oracle, Accenture, GE, Sapient, SAP Lab, Price Waterhouse Coopers, IBM, TCS, Infosys, L&T Infotech, HCL, Citibank, General Motors, TATA Motors, M&M, RIL, NTPC, HPCL, HUL, GlaxoSmithKline, Coca Cola etc.
As far as academic background is considered, almost 90% of the batch is having engineering background. Batch has got people from IITs, ISM, BITS, top NITs and other top engineering colleges.

6. No of seats in the batch

56 students in current batch

7. Selection Procedure

Your online applications will be evaluated by adcom, SPJ . They consider various criteria to send calls like your past work ex (both quality n quantity), past academics, extra curricular etc. Then they send you interview call along with a form. This form asks you to write a few essays and more about yourself.
Interview is one day process comprising various rounds.1st round is a group interview where a batch of 5-6 people will be evaluated by a panel of faculty. If you clear that then you will be given some pschychometric tests. Then 2nd round of interviews- again group interview. This interview is more technical and on current affairs.
Also if you have any experience with any NGO then that would be an added advantage.

8. Questions generally asked in interviews

Mostly questions will be related to your previous work experience.

Also do keep in touch with the current topics as SPJ asks for the current affairs in the interview. Apart from that normal questions like: Why MBA? What post MBA? Why S P Jain? Why now? etc…

9. Next Batch timeline

Interviews will be held in July and will be one full day affair comprising of various rounds.
Results will be out by July end.1st contact session of 4-5 days will be held in campus in mid Sep. You will receive study material in that session and will also attend some lectures. Then you will get lots of assignments between Sep’09 and Jan’10. Full time studies at campus will start in Jan'10. (based on current batch experience)

10. How to apply

Online applications are to be filled at SPJIMR . Form costs Rs 1200/- only.
Directly enter username and password (no registration). It will create the username for you. Please keep this username and password with you as SPJ does not send you the username and password by e-mail.

Last date for application is 30-Jun-09
