Hey Puys,

I am sure that the earliar post by a WE student is bothering everyone but how can we just trust a post?

So here is what i suggest....Lets start gathering as much info about WE as we can from passouts from recruiters from anyone we can and lets pool in all the info over a conferenece chat

Lets keep this conference chat sometime on 10th May (Sunday)

This way we can all get a more clearer picture

How many of you agree on this ..... and if anyone has a better suggestion please reply

Someone try a sting operation and find out the truth about this alleged seat for donation scam .
Although it does exist almost everywhere.

Hi everyone,

I am a second year student at Welingkar. I would like to give you a balanced but honest view on the institute after going through this thread.

There are several parameters that we use to judge an mba institute like:

1. Faculty
2. Placements
3. Research
4. Infrastructure
5. Brand Equity
6. Management Quota

1. Faculty: As far as the faculty are concerned, I would say that the faculty is ok. We do have a mix of teachers as well as industry people. I personally feel that the faculty could be better, but it is decent. In certain fields like finance, we have some very good professors, who are very practical in their approach. Every institute has its share of good and bad teachers. I would rate the faculty as 6.5/10

2. Placements: The placements at Welingkar are truly terrible. I am not talking about the placements this year which are on the whole terrible across institutes, but I witnessed placement week for the 2007 -08 batch as well and was not impressed. The figures quoted on the website are misleading.(most colleges do that... ) Whilst there are a handful of good profiles and packages on campus, the average of 7 lakhs is definitely inflated. In 2007, when the economy was doing well, the average package was actually somewhere around 5 lakhs (if you remove the international offers which is what spikes up the numbers). The people who were placed on day 0 and day 1 received offers between 6-8 lakhs, with 1-2 offers of 10 lakhs. The 17 lakh package which is quoted as the highest domestic package was not on campus. The student used his own contacts, the company did not even come on campus to recruit. From day 2 onwards, the packages fell drastically to 3-4 lakhs. If you are a lateral, I would definitely not recommend Welingkars because you are unlikely to get a lateral profile or package. For freshers, its a good option.

Also, placements are the best in Marketing. Marketing students are usually offered sales profiles. (which i believe is the norm in most colleges). Finance placements are always bad and the usual profiles for finance students are sales and relationship management. HR & Ops placements for the '08 batch were good but this year are non-existent. I would rate the placements as 1.5/10

3. Research: There is absolutely no focus on research or case studies. Infact, Welingkar is not at all an academically oriented institute. In our college extra curriculars are valued more. Unfortunately, the extra curriculars are not at all relevant. They are activities like dahi handi and cricket matches. I would rate the research orientation as 2.5/10

4. Infrastructure: The infrastructure at Welingkar is amazing. We have plush interiors, wi-fi networks, airconditioning etc etc. This is one area, noone can complain about. I would rate the infrastructure as 10/10

5. Brand Equity: Welingkar is not a well known brand outside of Mumbai or Bangalore. Even within Mumbai, several top companies refuse to recruit at Welingkar. We have a certain reputation in the industry. Industry people find that students are not up to the mark in terms of basic concepts. This is usually for two reasons. One - We have a trimester system (in the PG course) and so all our knowledge is superficial & Two - Most of our students are lazy and uninterested, usually spoilt rich kids. Unfortunately, Welingkar is excellent in its branding abilities and thus prospective students are made to feel that the Welingkar tag is worth something. I would rate the brand equity of Welingkar as 5/10

6. Management Quota: Well.... whatever has been said about management quota is true. Welingkar has barely any merit seats. Most of the seats are paid seats. In the graduating batch, there are 180 students in the core PGDM batch. We can safely say that approx 80% of these students are on management quota. Infact, students at Welingkar freely admit that they have paid for their seats, they seem to be proud of it. The amount depends on who you know or don't know, your profile and how early or soon you approach the institute. The amount varies from 15 lakhs - 30 lakhs (it's insane - i know!!!!)

Well, thats everything that I could think of. I've tried to be as neutral as possible so that potential applicants have a good idea of what's in store. I would like to add, that I have had a good time in Welingkars for two years. I made good friends and enjoyed attending college. However, if you ask me about value-add, well i dont really think there was much of that.

All the best to everyone for their MBA admissions!

tried hard not to react, but cant....initially i thought that it is useless to dignify posts like these from anonymous users who suddenly wake up realizing that they have a larger responsibility towards society and the student fraternity....

go to the original link where this post has been made and u wud find that this person has made just two posts till now....now if he is so responsible and hell bent on giving a so called UNBIASED view about welingkar then why the hell has he made just two posts till now....where has he been all the while when the aspirants were asking for help...

guys think for urself...u hav seen it for urself...and if seeing is not believing then what is....u hav been here to our college and experienced the passion with which our director answered all the queries, while every single management college is faking 100% placements we are the only institute who are showing the real figures....

with an OK faculty, horrible placements, pathetic research facility, non existing brand identity and 80% of the students belonging to management quota....do u think that welingkar would have been where it is....students are not stupid to line up for admissions every year if infra is the only thing that impresses them....

tell me which other b school has pioneered programs like EBiz BD (or any for that matter) and got an AICTE approval, which B school has the vision to completely reinvent and re brand itself, which b school has dished out the real placement figures, which b school has the group director present in every single presentation to answer candidates queries, which b school has a vision for the future and knows that innovation and design thinking is going to be the driver for change...welingkar has been the fastest growing b school, consistently ranked amongst the top colleges in the country, has one of the best corporate exposure and global internships, amazing guest speakers, intellectual capital that few can boast about and has even been responsible in the social initiatives it has taken....

we know what we are what we are not....if fees has been increased then it has been openly accepted...wait for a while and u wud see other b schools following suit, if research is not stressed upon then why wud the director stress upon doubling the investments on research...extra curriculars... huh,,,dude gimme a break is what we say when it comes to that....we have so many events every month that u wud literally say...enough....ab aur events and extra curriculars nahi chahiye....

AIMS (association of indian mngmnt schools), had k v kamath, birla, biyani, dean ISB, director iim c and the whos who of the corporate world coming to our campus....this year we wud organise the national HRD network meet, and i cant tell u the people it brings along with it...u need to see it to believe it...

sorry for such a long post....but what is untrue will be untrue...
