Hi Can any one help me out. As a PH student we were asked to submit the original copies of the Proforma F at the ARC centres.

Now at the time of Admission is the Proforma F again ? or only the photo copy of that will do, along with the original medical certificate from the government hospital. Can seniors please confirm on this please at Wellingkars or JBIMS?

Hi Seniors,

Why do students leave JB for IIMs when the placement of JB is at par with the IIMs and location is infact much better?
Obviously placement is just one of the criterias but is/are there any other specific reason/s for this or is it just the brand name of IIMs??

Thanks and Regards.

Well well..it is an individual choice isn't it? Everyone measures the B-schools by their own criteria and which ever institute they deem fit, they join it. You can never generalise as to why this institute over that. and by the way, comparison of institutes is not encouraged here

Firstly, do ppl really do tht?? Apart from a few astray cases or those make it to the top 3 IIMs?? Hell No..

Abt comparing the others with JB.. as palak pointed out below.. its an individual choice... and perception..

All we can vouch for is tht apart frm Infra, everything is a bliss @ JB..(Spkin of Infra, the requisite amenities r well in place )

N the best part is, the industry knows that plush-campuses n media-hype aren't the ingredients for a top b-skool !!

Nite_Go,

I'm sorry, but your question is a bit misdirected. You should be posing it to those who've chosen other institutes ahead of JBIMS and not to us, simply because we would be ill equipped to answer it.

I'll not get into comparisons with any other institute, but simply want to quote a very recent statistic.

JBIMS has been ranked 7th in the BT-Nielson B-School Survey 2008.The details will be published in the July 13th issue of Business Today.

Apart from this I would suggest all aspirants visit our website and go through stuff apart from the placement report. We also have a newly unveiled intranet JBuzz - The JBIMS Intranet - Home which will give you some more information about us.

Gathering a little more information on the institute might give you some insight as to why it is irrelevant to us if someone chooses another institute over JBIMS. It is completely their loss.

Me not a JB second year student, but thought of sharing some thoughts on this.

The top three IIMs are great in a lot of ways. But what makes a great B-school??Great faculty and great students. No offences meant to people of non-engineering streams, but dont we all know that our B-schools are full of engineers??And who are the top notch engineers of our country??IITians...It is these IITians who make the cream in IIMs as well.A lot of consultancy and I-banking placements are bagged by these chaps, not to mention the intellectual value that they add to their institutes. And this then starts running like a tradition:One chap gets in,and his juniors follow. That the IIMs are built on a similar model like IITs make them a natural prefernce for IITians. So while you do have IITians,BITS Pilani grads etc in JBIMS,XL,FMS etc, they are more abundant in the big IIMs.As of faculty,we know that faculty at these instis is great.

Now coming to industry.Industry requires smart and open-to-learning chaps who have a vision towards work and contribution to society. With the exception of extremely technical profiles, any chap with good enough skills and attitude can make it to the top in industry. You dont need extreme analytical ability everywhere. So basically beyond your initial placement, industry doesnt care much about your B-school brand but more about how you can deliver. In the latest BT edition, you can read an article by the HR head of ICICI bank wherein he clearly says that ones degree and excellent marks dont matter any more once he is in the workplace. Those were just screening criteria. If not exactly this approch,I am sure that a lot many companies think on similar lines...

As far as JBIMS goes,it has got to be one of the very best institutes in terms of giving you this real world exposure. It is one thing gaining theorotical knowledege. It is quite another thing learning what is happening in the real world, discussing M&A deals live with people who do it,dissecting channel strategies live with Marketing honchos, preparing business plans which are implemented by industry.....so all-in-all JBIMS serves the basic purpose of a B-school excellently...and the performance of its alumni illustrates that.

As far as brand name goes,JBIMS is a very very respected brand in circles where it matters:corporate houses.Imagine getting into a company wherein a third of the senior management is your college alumni.......

Saying that A/B/C are the top three institutes in the country is a given...so I dont think there is a cllege comparison issue here. But after that, its upto the student to make an informed choice.Amongst L/XL/JB/I/K....I have numerous examples of students who took this one and left that one.....in combinations that many consider weird....but its all individual perception I guess......

In my opinion, Infra at JBIMS is also great
Wi-Fi Campus
Projectors in all the Class Rooms
Auditorium with seating capacity of 150
Intranet
Most important part of the infrastructure of any college: LIBRARY, guys it is THE BEST with collection of over 40,000 books and thousands of journals (Senior managers of many companies have taken membership of JBIMS library to go through research papers, journals, etc..)

The only immaterial thing missing is the garden and the trees. But I guess MBA is much more than scenery, but for those it matters then Marine Drive is at just 5 minutes walk from college.
