Hi Acad,
This is my first post on pg, i have been in touch with pg for the past 6 months and had little or no knowledge of PUMBA until i accidently came across your thread on PG and was amazed to know so many good things about this institute. I am myself from Mumbai and graduated from Pune universty (electronics 2005). Since then i have been working in a KPO. Last year i had good chances of gettinga seat in PUMBA but having scant knowledge about this institute i did not go for it , now i realise what a grave mistake i made. This year again i appeared for CAT (92 %tile) and CET (95%tile ), had my gd/pi on monday 22nd and did pretty well in the gd and the interview was fine, already have 4 mks for PAR and 1 mks for work ex. so i think i should somehow manage a seat in PUMBA. what is your opinion? | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to warrior27 For This Useful Post:

Relax man. Its not some grave mistake you made. The 1 year of wk-ex will help you in the long run. I'm currently in the 1st year (MBA-I). Anyway, your CAT/CET scores remind me of my own & hence technically speaking you should be able to get into PUMBA just fine, provided you manage to get a total score of around 34/40 in your GD/PI/PAR/WE.
Regarding Final Placements & Summers, i'm sure you must have gone through the first couple of posts put up by Acad. If you have any more queries which have not been covered in those posts (i really doubt that), post em here and we'll get back to you asap...
Now here's the lowdown on Summers from PUMBA... Total students placed for Summers from the Institute - 143 No. of students looking to get placed from college - 145 No. of students placed externally (own contacts) - 30 Summer Internship Period - 1st June to 31st July Some Major Recruiters - (Sector wise) Banking- · PNB · HDFC · Union Bank · ICICI IT – · Lenovo · Qualex · Godrej Infotech · L&T Infotech · GT Nexus · Siemens Retail – · Pyramid · Spencers Market Research – · AcNielsen · Quantum Market Research Media – · Business Std · Nimbus · Leo Burnett Manufacturing – · SKF Ltd · Bajaj Auto · MICO Bosch · Essel Propack Insurance & Financial Services – · TATA AIG · Karvy Consultancy · Reliance Capital Profiles offered -
Market Research, Sales, Channel Development, Head Hunting, Recruitment, Credit Risk Management, Equity Research, etc... Locations -
Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore,... Stipend offered -
Average - 4 to 6k with a maximum stipend of 10k and a minimum stipend of 0k
(lots of students agree to work without any stipend because PUMBA students believe in giving preference to the organization & the job profile)
Summer Internships last for a period of 2 months...2 months in which you get a chance put into practice all the Kotler/Ramaswamy/Porter/Jhamb/Khan & Jain/IM Pandey which you've studied over the period of 1 year (hopefully). We look at this as an opportunity to learn. So whether you are working with Leo Burnett, ACNielsen, Reliance Capital or Mico Bosch make sure you do enough to give a potential recruiter a chance to see what you are capable of and why he is justified in offering you a 5 lakh+ package.
Hope this clarifies some doubts...
(p.s. There are some rumours going around that PUMBA doesn't have its own Placement Cell. That's the most funny thing I've heard in the last 1 year. Makes me wonder who I've been working for? SIBM's Placement Cell?...I've got 2 words for anyone believing this - "yeah right!") The thing i have observed for the past 3 months (after appearing CET) is that people outside are not much aware of the resurrection pumba has gone through and these people are the ones who fall prey to these stupid rumours and further help it spread, but then i appreciate the steps you guys are taking to make your college known to the outside world and whether i become a part of this college or not i will surely recommend this college to other MBA aspirants. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to warrior27 For This Useful Post:

Hi rkr,
Mate, it all depends on the rank u wud. Ur merit score and PU rank will determine whether u stand a chance for PUMBA. Last year the closing rank was 109 in list 1. Simply put, if u in the top 100 in Pune Univ (open category), u will definitely get a seat.
Do not bank on the 2nd list as the awareness to PUMBA as a strong b-school brand has only improved since it becoming autonomous. At ur current score, I assume u shud be around 135-140.....the merit rank of such a score will determine ur final result. U do seem to have a gud chance though (last year 1st round cut off 145 score). All the best

Hi dude,
Please put in some efforts before reporting the questions again. If you wud have gone through the first two pages, your query would have been answered, that too by none other than our dearest friend and passout of 2006, Mr. Vinayendra jain.
Just to brush you up again, PUMBA has approx 6 seats in the hostel, 3 for reserved and 3 for open category students. The open category seats usually go to OMS. The seats may increase by 1 or as a new hostel is being added.
My suggestio is to form a gang of friends and rent a flat. If you want nearby a 2 BHK will cost around 7-11K if you can afford to stay aroun 4-6 KMs from college you should get a 2BHK for arounf 7-8K. I am currently staying with my friends at a distance of 6KM and paying 6500.PG accomodation would go anywhere around 2100 to 4000 depending on wat all you want.
Anything else lemme know.
Regards
