Hi Guys....

If you were just wondering about the Management Education during this brutal economic downturn n wat value does it hold....then SIESCOMS has organised a PANEL DISCUSSION to help you get out of the dilemma

REGISTRATION is free and seats are limited...so hurry up!!!

HERE ARE THE DETAILS:

SIES College of Management Studies (SIESCOMS)

Presents
Panel discussion on Current Downturn and Management Education as a Career Option

Background:

The Indian economic & financial scenario is currently under a deep strain. Almost all the sectors are in a phase of economic and production / services downturn. Consequently the job market is also slackening. As productivity and strategic cost management become norm of the day, demand for fresh talent has considerably slowed down. In some of developed markets particularly in USA there is an inverse relationship between slack in job market opportunities and demand for b-school entrants. This happens as more people want to get equipped with competencies needed to manage corporate world in a difficult scenario. Whether this is true for Indian situation is yet to be proved though there are arguments on both sides i.e.
whether to go in or not to go in for management education in a difficult economic scenario like the current one. However, the fact is obvious: competencies needed in situation like this are considerably different than those under normal circumstances.

Objectives:

Under the above scenario, this panel discussion attempts to address some of the issues that are hovering in minds of the potential entrants for management education either those who are employed or who are just writing final year examination. The discussion attempts to answer some of the following issues:

How to look at career and career options in such a difficult juncture of
economy?
What are the core competencies needed in such a situation to be successful
at work?
What are the important criteria one should look at before opting for
management education?

Facilitators:

a. Panelists:

1. Mr. M N Gopinath, Chairman, Loyalty Solutions & Research Ltd. and Director, Bank of India
2. Prof R S S Mani, Management Educator & Career Counselor
3. Mr. Patrick D’souza, Partner, Quoin Academy

b. Moderator:

Dr A K Sen Gupta, Director, SIES College of Management Studies

Venue:

SIES College of Arts, Science & Commerce, near Jain Society, next to Gurukripa Hotel, Sion(W), Mumbai – 400 022

Date & Timing:

8th February, Sunday, 6 pm to 8 pm

I guess recession and subprime mortgage loan is also a probable topic not only in GDs but also in PIs. And there must be people like me who are not very well aware of the concepts and topics. So here is some of the basic we need to know.

Subprime lending is the practice of lending, mainly in the form of mortgages for the purchase of residences, to borrowers who do not meet the usual criteria for borrowing at the lowest prevailing market interst rate. These criteria pertain to the borrower's credit score, credit history and other factors. If a borrower is delinquent in making timely mortgage payments to the loan servicer (a bank or other financial firm), the lender can take possession of the residence acquired using the proceeds from the mortgage, in a process called foreclosure.

The subprime mortgage crisis is an ongoing financial crisis triggered by a dramatic rise in mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures in the United States, with major adverse consequences for banks and financial markets around the globe. The crisis, which has its roots in the closing years of the 20th century, became apparent in 2007 and has exposed pervasive weaknesses in financial industry regulation and the global financial system.
Many USA mortgages issued in recent years were made to subprime borrowers, defined as those with lesser ability to repay the loan based on various criteria. When USA house prices began to decline in 2006-07, mortgage delinquencies soared, and securities backed with subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value. The result has been a large decline in the capital of many banks and USA government sponsored enterprises, tightening credit around the world.

I hope this helps.
Yes Rujuta U hav brought out n imprtant topic which cnt b missd..."SUBPRIME CRISES"...popularly known as Subprime Mortgage.

This is an omen which hit many developed nations ranging from US,UK,most of Europe and the latest bein New Zealand.
The problem is, that many lenders price the risk of lending on a property in ignorance of other charges that may be on it. So if a bank lends 75% of a property's value, the homeowner may then take additional secured loans with other lenders, making him or her much more likely to default.

Some economists and the International Monetary Fund believe that world house prices are overvalued by as much as 30% and could fall sharply as is seen in case of India.

Here's some facts to digest...
According to the latest MBA (Mortgage Bankers Association) figures the sub-prime sector makes up13.7% of the total mortgage market.

Keep the thoughts pourin in...
