Right to Information – Let’s get the answers from government….
.................................................. .................................................. ...
CII-Yi net SIMSR had organized a seminar on Right to Information Act on 31st July. The purpose of organizing such seminar was to make the student community aware about their rights and encourage them to implement it. The seminar was addressed by prominent RTI activists Mr. Gaurang Vora and Mr. Sunil Ahya. Both of them are actively involved in properly implementing RTI act in public domain. Mr. Vora discussed in detail the application procedure, the time line, implication of each item in the application form. Copies of application form were distributed among the audience. Then Mr. Vora described how RTI act came into picture in India. Mr. Ahya discussed the status of RTI acts in other countries, developed as well as developing countries. He also shared a success story of how RTI was able to get the concerned government department to task. The audience was full of enthusiasms. They asked the speakers their queries and made the seminar interactive. Prof. Reena Mehta on behalf of Yi-Net expressed the vote of thanks to the speakers. She nicely concluded that blaming the system and doing nothing is not useful. We are all part of the system so it is our duty to protest whenever we see any wrong things happening. Right to Information Act is the tool through which we can raise our voice. She asked us to think on what we are giving the country not what the country is giving to us. The speakers were very glad seeing the response of the audience and promised to come in SIMSR again.

The long awaited SPRIHA 2009 impressed everyone on 21st August with a slew of talented students and their outstanding projects. The annual event was initiated in 2003 by the students of SIMSR to showcase the in-depth research and hard work put into their summer projects, and now has become a hallmark of the SIMSR calendar.
SPRIHA 2009 was presided over by SIMSR Director Professor Ghai along with the illustrious judges and guests. Mr. Raj Dubey, Chief Training and Development Officer from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. judged the event along with Mr. Anant Rajadanye, General Manager-HR -Head of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd. As the occasion drew to a close, SIMSR’s Director-General thanked the guests and judges for their support and appreciation, and acknowledged the hard work and effort of the students and faculty, who put up a superb event yet again.
