Seniors, Priyanka Dhignra, RButhello , Mangola :

Good afternoon!!! .This is my first post. I am an OMS candidate with an overall CET score of 175 and All India Rank 238. All this while I was hoping to get into PUMBA . With the provisional results out, I know I would not get through Pumba. I have read all the posts(about XIMR) posted on this thread till now. I would be greatful to you if you could reply to the following querries :

1) With my AIR 238 , do I stand a chance to get through XIMR? XIMR has been awarded ' minority' status. Would this affect the OMS merit list also? I mean would the cut-off's for OMS candidates also increase?

2) Apart from XIMR, are there any other decent options which I could look at?

3) Being a female(from Delhi), my parents are very concerned about my boarding/lodging at Mumbai. Please let me know the options available for staying. Being a north Indian , are there any north Indian 'dabba' system. ? Could you please put me through
some of your batchmates who could help me on this issue. I would like to be at a place which has a quiet atmosphere suitable for studies. Any hostel or a pg with not more than 2 girls in a room is what I would ideally look for. Without proper arrangement of staying and food, it may be very difficult for me utilise the opportunity of studying at XIMR!!!
Please HELP!!! Also let me know the expenses for such an arrangement.

4) I am particularly interested in HR. I hope this specialisation has a decent faculty.

5) You all have been with XIMR for an year or more. Please let me know the how has XIMR grown over this period. Also your projected perception of XIMR , lets say by 2010?

6) I understand that XIMR comes under Mumbai University. So all colleges under Mumbai Univ shall have the same subjects? Also the questions papers for all colleges
would be the same? Am I correct on this please?

7) I presume the fee at XIMR is approx Rs.70,000/- per year? Is there any other fee also to be paid?

Being in Delhi it is very difficult for me to find answers and solutions to the above querries.
Hence I request you to please reply to the querries at the earliest.

I know I have thrown a volley of querries on you, but I do not have any other means to get information on the above issues!!!!!!! Please excuse me for taking this liberty.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Rajati

Hello Rajati,
  • The Minority status has affected the OMS seats too. Pro Rata…
  • K.J., Welingkar, Dalmiya.
  • Mumbai is much safer than the northern states, so your parents can rest assured you will be safe. Also, a girl from my class with a similar concern managed to get a hostel run by Nuns. You could get in touch with the college administration to arrange for a similar arrangement (as long as you don’t mind the prayers in the evening). On an average, accommodation would cost you around 4000 a month. Food should not be an issue.
  • Don’t worry about the faculty .
  • With the first batch of full time students, a few mistake were made, however many of them have been rectified. Ex: the Placement committee is now in place, the alumini of XIMR has been contacted, the management has taken a more active role in day to day affairs… Also more and more books are being added to the library. Few professors are being dropped. Better ones are being called in….all in all it is getting much better.
  • This will be true for the second year. During the first year the college is free to set the paper in any pattern it wishes. It is nearly autonomous in the first year.
  • The fees are higher , it has been mentioned a few posts earlier.
  • Sorry for the delay….
  • You are free to ask as much as you wish..
Regards,
RButhello

Thanks for the prompt reply. Sir, would it be possible for you to let me know the name and address/tel no of the hostel you are referring to. I have had my schooling at a Christian missionary school and my parents would be more than satisfied if this hostel can meet my requirement. You may please send me details of other options as well. As per your previuos posts, the academic schedule at Xavier's is very hectic, I hope the hostel you have suggested gives enough space to people who want to study.
Are the room on twin sharing basis or ???? I would be very thankful if you could provide the contact details of other options I could look at keeping in view the considerations mentioned earlier in my post.

Though I know things would work out well, but for the sake of my parents, can you provide a clear picture regarding availability of north indian food at the hostels or the 'dabba' system?

Secondly, the fee mentioned in one of the posts is Rs.1.75 lakhs (per annum? I guess). Is the entire fee payable in one go and through a DD or
cash component is aslo involved?

Your elaborate and prompt reply has given me the courage to ask you for more favours. Sorry!!

Thanks

Rajati

Seniors, Priyanka Dhingra,Mangola are also earnestly requested to help me please.

Hey Prisahu, I really do not know how the final cut-offs will be. To be on the safer side, I suggest that you take the management forms if you are really interested in Xaviers.... As for the Fin/marketing bit, let me state it on record. Finance is not as bad as what it has been portrayed. The seniors have been placed well. 6 are placed in Investment Banking jobs, 6 to 8 as analysts and a few others in credit evaluation in banks(These are the Finance Profiles). All students were placed by college for the summers. In fact even after every student was placed we had companies approaching. Regards, RButhello

Dear Rajati, 1. Please give me some time to find other alternative arrangements. As for the Hostel run by the nuns, you may call up the college and inquire. 2. (To keep your Parents satisfied) I shall find out, give me some time. 3. Acco details speak to sanchita...I think you already have. 4. 1.75!!! yes in one shot. DD/Cheque will also do. DD preferred. Regards, RButhello
