hey guys, i am new here on this forum. xpecting a written score of around 115.
i heard dat xaviers is a ok college and still very new in this area.
but i also heard frm a friend who is in this college only....that this college does not encourage any extra curricular activities outside college. more focus is on academics which is not very imp when u actually go in the corporate world. plz resolve my query.

well...,XIMR is a part of st.xaviers mumbai and the xaviers is known to host quite a few festa and symposiums...so be rest assured that the students' will have their oppurtunities!!!!n from my perspective it should be upto the students of any institute to take initiaves regarding hosting extracurricular events....correct me if i am wrong!!!
so dnt worry....,lets first get through the admission procedure and then as students we will take up the mattle and ensure that life in XIMR is a happening one

thnx for prompt reply. just wondering how cud students host and participate in extra-crr activities when your college does not allow to do so. this info has come out frm one of ur colleagues so i am sure there is some hidden truth in it. in fact, i have also heard that this college is more like a school than a B-school...! it hardly gives any liberty to students in term of various initiatives. students are forced to sit in liabrary...doesnt it sound a bit childish.... The cut offs of last year are as follows:
OMS: 127 (written) + 16 (PI) + 9 (GD) + 4 (WE) = 156 (99.38%tile MAT convert)
CET OPEN ( MUM UNIV.): 113 (written) + 13 (PI) + 9 (GD) + 5 (WE) = 140 (97.22%tile CET)
CET OPEN (OTR. than MUM. UNIV.): 99 (written) + 11 (PI) + 9 (GD) + 2 (WE) = 121 (90.97%tile CET) XAVIERS (2007-09)

Well to an extent you are right.
Yes our college does not encourage any extracurricular activities, it is good other colleges do.
That is because unlike most other B'school we have lectures from 9am to 9 pm on most days.
In spite of this we manage time to play, go rural for our marketing projects, Visit corporates for surveys, take part in several competitions, sing carols, donate blood Make our own web-sites (btw the new ximr web site launch is on 26th march)... and yes
[You are invited for your friend's farewell party on the 27th of April]
You can lift the receiver and confirm the above with your friend !!!!!
Sorry ..no harm intended. But i am not too sure if i should be telling you all the above because i feel your last statement " more focus is on academics which is not very imp when u actually go in the corporate world." sounds absolutely prejudiced.
And yes do visit Xavier Institute of Management & Research offers 2 year full time mms programme for the latest.

BTW
@Bonjour you don't seem to be be from XIMR.
Correct me if needed.
Well like we've said time and again.
The focus here is a bit more on studies and readings as compared to other schools.
That does not mean we are being squeezed to death.
Nobody is complaining about the timings all that much.
We have students waiting overnight in college by their own choice (like i am right now).
I really don't know what you will apply in the corporate world if you do not have the requisite knowledge.
We do learn a few subjects other than the ones specified by the university and that perhaps gives us the edge over our fellow colleges.
So if you really don't want to put in 2 years of effort please please feel free to excuse this institute.
As i am typing news has come in that a few of our guys got placed for summers @ mahindra & Mahindra (2 for HR and 1 for finance).. congrats guys.
Well i hope more questions pour in as the results are out now.
Again our cutoffs in all the categories has been above 90 percentile last year and we hope to better that again this time around.
