Do you have any idea on SCMLD and Vaikuntlal Mehta institute for cooperative management...
SCMLD is a upcoming and good institute. Most students are with some work ex, and as far as I know, faculty is also good. No idea about their placements. Also no idea about Vaikuntlal Mehta.

HOW can you conclude that thing bout being intellectually superior???
and i dont see how glamour can make your experience more "worthwhile" !!!
The comparison is among the management institutions in Pune, not with COEP or ILS. Besides, how do you measure intellectual capital of the student body ? By awards they win at respectable events, like those held by premier institutes; and journal submissions. Symbiosys students win the maximum of Pune's share at such events.
And about the statement claming Symbi experience being worthwhile, I wud suggest you to read the paragraph again. I never meant that glamour "alone" makes your experience worthwhile, its the summation of all the pros I put forward.

Having said that, SCMHRD and SIBM are the best institutions in Pune, though not nationally. Besides Pune is a second league metro, and poses better standard of living than many other "management towns" (i mean where other good schools are located, like Lucknow, Indore, ect). To top that, SCMHRD and SIBM (nearly equal placement graphs) have got excellent placement over the past few years. Also Symbi crowd is anytime better than most other colleges in Pune, in terms of both intellectuality and glamour. So that makes Symbi experience worthwhile in any case. However, SIIB and other are not that good either acedemically or by placements.

PUMBA is more of academic heritage. So people willing to for PhD in management (or even better in economics, micro finance, etc., since PU is well known for social sciences) should fight for PUMBA. Being a typical university program, its not that great by placements, but is very strong by academics and faculty interface. (If I am not wrong, PU had exchange program with Brown Uni for economics and finance till a few years back. So students can take advantage of excellent rep letters for further studies.) To top everything else, it a reputed university with good campus facilities like library, sports, etc which students can avail during their time there.

For Puys,
shemz
adding my 2 cents..
PUMBA- Department of Management Sciences is a dept. of a 5 star rated reputed Pune univ whch has the highest no. of international students in the country..since PU is trying to make its education international in character,PUMBA has planned an International campus in Dubai starting sep 2008..

Talking about academics, pumba now has a better updated curriculum(read MBA++) then what most other cet / PRIVATE colleges offer..
PUMBA students are career-oriented intellectuals and are unaffected by the other intellectual glamorous "Crowd" in the city

Agreed and accepted to some extent. Any university is truly academic in nature, and same goes with PU. But you cant say that Symbiosis students are not career oriented. Symbiosis has got good crowd, and they have loads of fun events to combine with their tight schedule. At the end of the day, it is one's personal choice where s/he wants to go.

Btw ... a nice to know fact about PU that they are coming up with a campus in Dubai.

Also I forgot to mention ... that glamor doesnt really matter in MBA due to tight schedules (i mentioned about it in my original message as just a matter of fact), but intellectuality is certainly required. Its like as in, you cant sit with anyone over a toss and discuss Marxism. lol

who said the comparision was with COEP or ILS?
Glamour is a very subjective term.someone from a rural area may find just doing the MBA course a "glamorous" thing.someone from Bandra might not find Pune "glamorous" enough.
and glamour (acc to me) should not even a be a minor factor in choosing an educational insti.
i agree tat Symbi have great infra and your reasoning of Symbi students winning events might be true, but we cant brand them "intellectually" superior solely on that !
juss my 2 pesetas...
