Well... one thing is for sure. Whether I succeed... or fail (now that is something I'll have to work towards, as that's what my teachers say...) I'm already well known amongst my batchmates.

My antics in irritating members of the opposite gender has already made me notorious among them... and my (absence of any) knowledge of many matters has made me well hated amongst my own kind.

More importantly, the huge PG sticker on my laptop has announced to SIBM that here is a person who is addicted to PaGaLGuY... no doubts there.

Lets just hope my association with PG does not end here... and neither does it with SIBM... and may there be a symbiotic relationship amongst all...

That was my post when I started off in SIBM... When the year started. It was about a week after the course had started, and I had just configured my laptop to the local network. Now if I just statistically count it,

I have 11 posts since then, including the one above.
My other batchmates, amongst the 3 who've posted in this thread, have 3 posts.
My seniors took the courtesy of using their free time to write 2 posts.

The juniors have arrived, some with a few notions of what is going to happen, some with an open mind. Time goes on, and we move ahead. Let the juniors find out how wrong (or right, if so) were their impressions of what'll happen here. Welcome, boys and the few girls, and best of luck to you.

I hope Vivek, Delton n the rest have a better record of maintaining this thread.

All in all, it is a great experience so far and I will be updating this page more often in future.
Well, I do hope you do, Vivek. Hand over the thread to you.

Re: Life @ SIBM - 03-07-2007, 04:04 PM

Assignments, Reports, Presentations, Projects, Research, Consulting Work, Company Profiling, Quizzes, Internal Marks, Dilemnas, Threats, Analysis and the best of all Pre Freshers......this has what my life has been about the past three weeks at SIBM.
Before joining SIBM, i thought life in a B School would be quite similar to my engineering days but i was in for a shocker here....thinking that the major competition for me wud be from fellow "Engineers", I realized that i could not be further from the truth. To my utter shock and horror i realized that in my batch there are CA's , Doctors, people with Honours Degree from every course possible, some even unheard of, people with 7 - 8 yrs of work ex (my 24 months which seemed pretty good to me barely 20 days ago now makes me wonder solemnly if i can claim my stake to the Lateral Placements at all. )
But i must say, i have been fortunate to be given such a diverse batch in terms of experience, profile as well as demographics. We have people from as far west as California, USA and as far east as South Korea. 70 % of our batch has work ex and the experience varies from IT programming on the lower scale to Derivatives Research and NGOs on the higher scale.
Have been in Pune for the past 20 days....but it feels like a lifetime...i come to college at 8.30 and only once have i gone home by 7......otherwise 11 or 12 is the norm...
In college though its not about studies only.....there are student councils here and the members are like really respected. SIBM is a student driven organization and the students council conducts itself more professionally than even the corporate organizations i have worked with. Members of the student's council pride themselves for completing their work successfully and that is no mean achievement as apart from the acads these guys wud have to to work on an average of 5 to 6 hours a day to do the student council work.
Its quite intimidating when you are studying in a School which expects utmost professionalism from your every behaviour and action. "Any misdeed on my part could spoil the reputation of the institute" has been imbibed in us so thoroughly that I am amazed at the changes in maturity level and responsibility that has appeared out of no where and has not firmly planted its roots in my body. All this in a matter of twenty days.
Also, before coming here, i wasnt very sure about staying in a hostel....was worried about my privacy....if i wud be able to study...but now i am glad that i have so many ppl around me.....the best part is that we dont consider each other as competitors anymore.....we are more of a team and as Chetan Bhagat so succintly puts it C2D (Cooperate 2 Dominate) is the buzzword. Thats what we do here and we are proud of our team building skills.
Talking about team building skills, we had a pre freshers party a week ago...it was gr8.....entire 1st years and a few 2nd years went to a pub called Ten Downing Street and i got totally sloshed.......i ran into grond there and we both were just cursing about things.....trust me....wehn ur drunk, u just need to curse anything you can possibly think about ....thats nirvana []..
This is what i have been upto in the recent passe .need to go now as classes wud start any time and i need to figure out the head and tail of accounts. Ill catch u guys soon...ciao.

Re: Life @ SIBM - 05-07-2007, 08:46 PM

Few more days gone by.....same old hectic schedule. During my "stint" at Wipro, life was pretty hectic, but then when i would leave offic, i would free my mind of all the work i was pretending to do. At SIBM, theres no pretence and theres no going back home with a relaxed mind. I come to class and try my best to stay awake the entire day.
I do have a lot of help in staying awake.....every time theres a boring lecture (read Contemporary regulatory and Legal Environment, Managerial Communications and the likes), my classmates would be kind enough to wake me up, and in a millisecond i would hear something that i disagree with and the remainder of the hour would be spent with me arguing with the Proff.
Next wednesday i have to give a five minute presentation of my Vision in life to the director. Now i am a guy who has taken life as it came. I dunno why i did engineering, i definately dont know why i joined wipro given the fact that my heart would stop beating every time i hear the word "Coding" and i joined MBA just because it seemed the logical next step.
But preparing for this presentation, got me thinking...that i was surprised when i found i had the mental capacity to actually think would be a gross understatement, i was utterly and hopelessly shocked or rather mortified. Here i was just another guy 3 weeks ago who would hesitate to add 2 and 2 if there was a calculator around and here i was yday thinking about my life and what i wanted out of it. Damn!!! Whats SIBM doing to me.
But sitting on my bed, with a Laptop, listening to music with the entire World sleeping at an hour i didnt know existed, I actually got to thinking about what i wanted to be in life, what did i wanna achieve as a professional and how was SIBM helping me achieve it. It wasnt easy to begin with, given my hatred towards thought process, particularly those emanating from me, but then as i cleared my mind, which wasnt particularly difficult since its not a dauntingly uphill task to clear something with no matter inside, i crossed the tipping point and things were on a roll.
I finally was able to figure out what it was that i actually wanted out of life, and on a serious note, it was one of the most exhilirating moments of my life. I felt like the enlightened Budha, only i wasnt sitting under a tree meditating.
My first response on being assigned to make the presenation brought a zillion groans from deep within, but after last night, i just want to go upto the director and give him a thousand hugs for making me think what i wanted to do (dont get me wrong, believe me u, I have nothing in common with Sir Elton John).
Now i am practically waiting for the weekend to get over so that i can give my presentation the Director. Talking about the weekend, we have the freshers party on Saturday night, something i am very excited about. SIBM has a tradition that for the freshers, all the juniors have to ask the seniors out for a date. Now i know that the sex ratio is scewed in India in the ratio of 1000 males for 963 females, but at SIBM to my seniors (Grond included ) horror, our batch was extremely skewed in the ratio of 3:1. Since a tradition cannot be broken, it was decided that if a guy of our batch doesnt find a "female escort", he would have to ask another senior (guy) out. Knowing Grond has a PhD in hating women (very mildly put, you have no idea to the extent grond would go to get a girl off his back, i am sure i am gonna get a kick in my big fat posterior for typing this ....) i made my batchmate (girl) ask him out....was it fun!!!!!!!!!!! people cudnt believe their eyes when they saw a girl ask grond out....it was the talk of the campus for the next two hours and talk of his class for prolly the entire day. Grond was all smiles when he was asked out, but he wanted to maintain his reputation of being a Big Daddy and was behaving very tough....lol...it was fun watching it.....even though i am writing all this, believe me Gronds a great dude and though girls are scared of him (something he proudly admits) every one praises him for his helpful nature. Hes a heck of a dude and a great senior to have. He hasnt joined any of the student councils but he volunteers for any work given by any student council. a very proactive guy.
By the way i have been selected in the Research Factory which is a students association...For the uninitiated, except for academics, everything ranging from placements to corporate interface to research to admissions is run by the students. The Placement Advisory Team (PAT) is revered around here and the members are treated as demi gods, and with good reason, they spend close to 10 hours a day with the placement activities. Hats off to these guys. As i am typing this, my roomie has just entered my class room and he insists i finish the post within a fraction of a milli second or he wud switch off the laptop. Considering that i have spent quite a lot of time typing this, i wudnt wanna take the risk of challenging him. So aloha....until next time.

First let me clarify,
Atal Bihari Vajpayee thingy happened because i had to enact Vajpayee and apparently i did it well....
Since Delton was kind enough to praise me i think i shud return the favour.
Delton btw lives in opposite rooms. I used to think i am lazy. But Delton takes lazyness to a different level altogether. He is one of the first to wake up in his apartment and still always the last to get ready. And his confidence level is simnply amazing. He would not know the S of Statistics, but he would give gyaan about it so easily and confidently that ppl wud actually think he knows sthing. I guess he would be awesoem at marketing and making suckers out of the buyers but for illogical reasons known only to him he wants to take up HR.
All this apart, Deltons a really nice guy, great dancer and very popular among the girls here. Since hes talking about my presentation i would also let you knwo that in a group discussion session where we had to do extempore and evaluation was done by students, this dog gave me 4/10...where every one else gave me a 8, 7 or lowest 6......dont worry dude ur chance for extempore wud come soon!!!!
