What determines specialization ???

You have to choose the specialisation in term 2. So there's no hurry. Let the classes start , settle down, and then chhose the spec based on discussions with seniors and faculty members.

Right now prepare to be amazed by the workload that will be thrust on you. I talked to some MBAs . They scared the hell out of me !! How will I be able to work so much everyday ??????????

buddy kunduanirban, if ur wondering how ur gona work so much every day.....i bet once ur out of ur bschool ur again gona worry as to how you could manage the whole work load
Itl just carry with the wind that flows at ur institute buddy.......dont break ur head about that..........and urmaad......nice to see ur response to my response and ur absolutely right about u waiting for the final decision. Its always better to wait till the second year coz ud have a thorough grounding of the basics in the first year and u would certainly be in a better position to decide ur future course of action

One of the Important factor that i think what determines the specialization is ones interest . I know that this is the standard answer by any Bschooler . But its difficult done than said . I think for making the task simple one ask one question, whether they picture themselve being in that field for the rest of the life . Its better to first know what all the field is all about. Leave the placements and pay packages because anyways if u dont have much interest in the field you wont be able to perform and sooner or later you will loose the job .

Specialization may depend upon the following factors--
1. Left brained folks could go in for number crunching (Read: Finance), Comm. skills guys (Right brained) could opt for Mktg., etc.
2. Peer pressure-- "Its the IN THING-- take it up", even my friends are going for this specialization.
3. Current market trends-- As we all know IT is the moolah raking field this century.
4. Faculty recommendation at your institute, parental advice.
5. Some folks are vacillating types, will decide only after first year of course.
