Re: Convocation of Great Lakes, Batch 2008 -
17-05-2008, 10:27 AM
Dear Fellow GLakers – You are every bit right in saying that the Convocation was in fact a memorable one for the graduating batch (The Jaycees) and an inspirational one for the incoming batch (We, The Champions).The ideas shared by Uncle Bala, Mr.B.Ramalinga Raju (CEO, Satyam) and Mr. Ram (Editor, Hindu) ,to say the least were enlightening and gave a lot of mental fodder. The baton of taking GL to heights of unparalleled glory has now been passed onto us and I am sure we have started in the right earnest and on a very promising note.
Just to add on some of the defining moments that stood out during our short stay here – The GUEST LECTURES by some towering personalities of the corporate world like CXOs of firms like MaFoi Management Consulting (Founder, CEO), Saint Gobain (CEO) and HeyMath (CTO) were really inspiring and definitely added in a big way to our understanding of the importance of having a long term vision, focus, commitment and risk appetite. The words from such people are priceless and what a great opportunity it was to hear straight from the people who themselves define what a business leader is all about!!

Held at the grand Chennai Convention Center, the convocation was an event filled with emotions, resolutions, guidance and exuberance.
The gathering witnessed the presence of Mr. N.Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu as Chief Guest and Mr. Ramalinga Raju, Founder and Chairman, Satyam Computers Limited as the Guest of Honour. Of course there were distinguished personalities like our Uncle Bala and Mr. T. N. Seshan (our permanent faculty).
Thoughts were poured in on issues like the importance of leadership in India, the essence of curiosity, need to see a dream and ensure that it gets realized and the relative significance of imagination vis-à-vis knowledge.
The feeling of accomplishment could easily be seen in the eyes of our seniors. An equal degree of determination was reflected in their attitudes. Check out the following link for more information.

@ranjit
I fully endorse whatever you have said about our experience at GLakes..And in addition to that I would like to mention something more ..Something about the OUTBOUND TRAINING Program..
GL is not just all about serious work 24X7, power talks, Guest Lectures and sleepless nights .Itz all this, but much more than that and this program was a testimony to that. We played team games here, interacted with each other, danced late into the night and got our batteries recharged for what I am sure will be the greatest learning experience of our lifetime. And thatz not all .All this was beautifully designed to teach us the lessons of team spirit, team camaraderie and friendly competition and whole lot of things. There are just no words to explain what we experienced there as the words fall short. U‘ve got to be there to experience it!!

2 weeks into Term 1
The term 1 with subjects like Intelligently interacting with others, Marketing Management, Financial Accounting, Macro economics, Statistics and Mandrin are all keeping us very busy. Adding to it the team activities, internal clubs, group activities and discussions, case studies and karm yoga - working with the needy people and hence contributing to the society...all this in just 24 hours a day and 7 days a week...seems impossible
Who can teach better time management than this. A formal welcome to the MBA course.

Thank U mkinra. Its all the inspiration we got from seniors which is flowing in the form of enthusiasm here.
And as my fellow Great Lakers have mentioned above, apart from subject one thing which we are learning here is giving the best in the peak of stress. Dont think any B School give this much variety of experience in the first 15 days only. Its awesome. We ae doing so much simultaneously that sometimes I can not believe is the same me who used to procrastinate at work
Here procrastination will hit you with tons of unread-preread and tons of postread :innocent:
Thank you very much to everyone who is posting all the happenings of the roller coaster in the busiest schedule here... Ya I know we all Great Lakers rock !!!

We at Great Lakes do a lot more than study. for instance we have something called The Karma-Yoga Project. Well, why dont you go ahead and read about it here --> The Karma-Yoga Experience Great Lakes Institute of Management
