This thread has been a revelation for me.
I was under the impression that Glim is one of those B-grade schools in the **** mould. When my uncle, who knows mr.Bala personally, suggested that I should be considering glim seriously if I don't make it to iims this year, i was flabbergasted.
Seems as though I was blatantly wrong in my assessment.
Lesson: Never derive conclusions based on preconceived notions without having done the requisite research.
Who knows,I might land up there after giving CAT a couple more tries.

Lots more to come.. dude.. Five out of eight papers in this first term, will be taken by professors from US,who are pioneers in their domain.. Be it strateigc management or marketing management.. They are the people who do serious research and study the latest concepts in mangement... Rather than theory mugging, it would be a unique experience, considering that there are so many experienced faces in our class..

Well, many have this perception. After all, our's is a new school.
One would love to be here. As TrailBlazer said, we have a great set of profs who are experts in their domain and more importantly many are active consultants for various industries.
I am happy that I took the admission offer.

Our First Quiz -
22-05-2005, 07:09 AM
We had a taste of how a B School quiz would be when we had one on Financial Accounting. After the quiz some were happy, some were no so and some were glad that they got the Balance Sheet right while some wondered ow they made this silly mistake.
The quiz was a great experiance for us. We have few in the pipeline next week.
As of now, we are loaded with assignments, presentations and case studies. The enthu. level here is quite high and ppl with more than 8 yrs of exp match the younger brigade in their enthu. to study.
The schedule for the next week leaves us with very little time to study. That is what the challenge is and we are upto it.
All the different committees have become operational and we have so many ideas to take our school forward. Great Lakes will soon become a much sought after school in India.

Day before yesterday, we had a lecture by Mr. Vellayan, Deputy Chairman of Murugappa group, a 1.44 billion dollar *Indian* company. I was dumbstruck to see the phenomenal growth and strategies of an indian enterprise, who are into manufacturing bicycles, steel pipes and fertilizers etc.., rising to the levels of multinationals like TCS, Wipro in terms of turnover..
Here is a glimpse of the people you will ( ) be interacting as a student of Great Lakes.. Almost all of the following people has taken different papers in different terms including the Economics Nobel Laureate... Will keep you all updated of this years events..
On the 6th of January, 2005, the foundation stone for ‘YALE-GLIM CENTRE FOR MANAGEMENT RESEARCH” was laid by Dr. Richard Levin, President Yale University. Ms. Linda Koch Lorimer, Vice President and Secretary of the University.Later, there was a Symposium on "Management in India: Global Vision - Indian Roots" participated by some of the world’s best teachers and thinkers. Prof. V.S. Arunachalam, Carnegie-Mellon University, Prof. S.P.Kothari, Sloan School of Management, MIT, Prof. V.G.Narayanan, Harvard Business School, Prof. Paul Prabhaker, Stuart School of Business, IIT, Chicago, Mr. Vittal, Former Central Vigilance Commissioner, Government of India, Prof. Shyam Sundar, Yale School of Management, Yale University debated on the topic and dumbfounded the audience. The entire program was anchored by Prof. Bala V. Balachandran, Distinguished Professor of Accounting and Information Systems, Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
On the 13th of January, 2005, Dr.Raghuram Rajan, Economic Counselor and Director, Research Department, International Monetary Fund gave a lecture to the students of Great Lakes Institute of Management on Monetary Policies & Improvement of Economic
conditions.
On the 18th of January, 2005, the unveiling of the foundation stone for the new Auditorium in our new proposed campus was done by Prof. Finn E.
