Thank god you wrote your name otherwise it would have been really difficult to address you, Inder . Make no mistake, HR is not not at all degrading for an engineer. HR+Systems is in great demand these days with so many BPOs and IT companies. In fact, the job of a HR manager can be really challenging (and interesting) in these New-Age companies since Attrition rates are very high. Also, since you are an Engineer, it would help you in recruiting Engineers and taking interviews.

If you saw PaGalGuy's interview on CNBC, you would also have seen that HR guy from Accenture (that we all hated for different reasons ). HR can be good fun too, but you got to have the aptitude for that. I don't know much about HR but I will try to get some of my friends (who are majoring in HR) here to help you guys.

Hello ! - 07-06-2005, 02:17 PM

Hi guys.., Nice Info about systems+marketting. We would love to hear about other specializations too., wudnt we .., guys ? If I'm not wrong.,we don have to make our choise of spltn in the first year of MBA itself right ? But as our dear friend tp said its nice to have a clear understanding of all this for the interviews.
Untill now i wasnt aware of the fact that we could do a dual specialization ! How advantageous is that over spltn in one field ?
Also., this is my personal doubt., wats the difference between PGDM and MBA ? Do they have the same spltns ?
Guys., esp the snrs.., please take out some time and help us newbies out !
Thank you.,

great job!!!!!!!! - 10-06-2005, 02:15 PM

hi..really great job done by tp...3 cheers for tp

i was also struggling to find info about the fin field on the net but it was really getting toooo much hectic and everything messed ...
this thread is a good source for consolidated knowledge on specializations..
but hey seniors ..don't b so rude ... help ur juniors....we r also on the same boat on which u were once....

anyways i have a ques regarding the fin fields form experts...
in the fin we have major fields like
accounting
asset management
commercial banking
corporate finance
insurance
investment banking
securities and sales trading

i have also gone through the ciricillum of some of the good b-schools but they teach the fin subjects in such a randon fashion that u won't b able to segregate them under these topics (atleast i was not able to do that )...so experts if u can throw some light on this what are the basics involved in these fields or if any good source for getting knowl. about these fields in a segregated fashion......that can be really helpful...

no replies!! - 13-06-2005, 03:27 PM

hey PG , it seems that there is nobody to help us amateur people.:whatthat: .
but how that can happen if we have so many great experts on this forum. so plz folks come out with ur experiences and give us some knowledge.
you can't even imagine of how much value it will be to us.
with the ongoing status of this thread it seems that people who previously posted on this thread are either fed up or now they don't have enthu to ask again for the same thing to the experts.
but experts this is where we can have some good info on whatever topic ..so plz reply with all the info u have and give us some insight into this well of knowl.

Well, yes the Finance-System combo is being treated as an excellent combination now a days, specially with the advent of e-based application. I am doing my summers at GE and saw the quantum of the actual usage of systems concepts in the finance process. And the beauty of this combination is that you don't need to have the hard core knowledge of either finance or systems. If you are clear in your basics you can sail through it easily.
