There is something called Lateral Placements for the people with experience... everyone is hush-hush about it right now as the placements for the PGP are underway.

But the rumour is that the lateral placements are made as ealry as January of the year and are at par with the salaries of IIM PGP grads with similar post wual workex.

What info do u want ?...Placements for exp people depend on kind of exp, relevance to the post applied etc....it can vary from VP levels to Country Heads to middle level management - people with workex can apply thru lateral placement process (there is nothing hush hush about it btw ) or in finals - some companies prefer coming early for higher than entry level position and hence this is conducted thru Jan-Feb before the march mayhem !! ..salaries range from 10-16 L per annum normally if India posting...sectors coming for lats range from utilities, conglomerates, investment banking divisions of FIs, consulting, infrastructure, BPOs etc...

if u can formulate ur question more precisely ill be happy to give more specific info..

Hey Snan.

Thanks for going live here.

Please comment on ::
1) How many students in the PGP recieve a Lateral Placement offer ... I would be happy with a ballpark number

2) The students with 18months + workex get lateral placement offers ... but do the same students also compete with the others in the placement committee sessions.

3) Internship and it's contribution to the lateral placements.-- do the lateral placemnets come from the internships done-- or do the third party placement cosultants make these offers to students in the final sem.

Now that we have the PGPX as well.. would there be any change in the Lateral Placements offered to the PGP.

If you are eligible..you do end up having a lateral offer unless you yourself don't take up one (due to pay/role/location etc issues). Ample opportunities exist..No of companies/offers is not a constraint. So numbers don't mean anything..If IIM-C places 60+ ppl in lats..this info can't be used to conclude anything.

2) The students with 18months + workex get lateral placement offers ... but do the same students also compete with the others in the placement committee sessions.

Wrk-ex criteria is company specific..11mnths ppl also do get placed in laterals. I guess you mean final placements by "placement committee sessions". Rules vary from IIM to IIM. Normally you can have only "x" accepts and after that you are out of the whole process. It's your call - to get all "x" accepts in lats or split it between lats and finals.

3) Internship and it's contribution to the lateral placements.-- do the lateral placemnets come from the internships done-- or do the third party placement cosultants make these offers to students in the final sem.

I don't know what exactly you mean by "Internship contribution" and "third party placement cosultants ". Summer internship offers are called PPO's (pre-placement offers). Laterals is different.

Now that we have the PGPX as well.. would there be any change in the Lateral Placements offered to the PGP.

Snan,

I have a few questions regarding lats at IIMA.

I have been told at various forums thats cos. offer senior management ( VPs and above) positions during lat. placements. Can you please elaborate specifically which cos. are these. The salary figures for lat. placements quoted in press and on web do not seem to be in line with senior management roles. You would agree that salaries at these senior levels are much higher in most industries.

Do these cos. offer a more or less pre-decided role/position/comp. for people with similar exp. levels or the process is much like hiring in open market where one can negotiate on any of the above ?

With the PGPX starting next year, whats the buzz on campus. Will the placement process be same for both PGP and PGPX ?

Cheers
Mukul
