Re: NSE's Certification in Financial Markets - 01-03-2007, 02:07 AM

I cleared the derivatives module and paid a good 1000 bucks plus 300 odd in taxi charges for the darn thing. Eventually wasn't even place for it in my summers CV. Please do not waste your time and effort (?) in taking the NCFM, Virtually no learning and absolutely no value as a CV point.

Here at IIMC it is almost a cult ritual where every PGP1 takes up the test to be inducted into the Fin tribe. But given that there are people who actually clear CFA these days before entering IIMC, NCFM can well be given the silent go-by. I will make sure my juniors don't waste time similarly.

A useless waste of money. Highly avoidable for MBAs.

Hi,
I too think that NCFM modules gave some more bullet points in your CV. And it never hurts to get some recocnized certs. 1000 bucks is nothing for a standardized test and the certificate sure looks cool with ur embedded photo . I gave Finance modul scored 100%(finished it in 10 mins) and the derivatives module. The Debt market cert is one of the tougher ones.

hi puys . i have some queries
1. i did basic module. & palnning to do derivative & commodities.
For commodities which is better NSE one or NCDEX one ?
2. which of them oduels are really useful or have any value for an MBA student. We are not going into trading so i think we can ignore mututal fund module.
correcct if i m wrong?
does this help in summers ? specially at IIMS?

Hey folks

few questions if you put in some insight :

1. Are all these financial certification(NCFM n blah blah) really worth if a person is heading to an MBA college of repute say IIM.

The point which I want to highlight here is something like: Is some useless certification from something like Java/C etc from say NIIT add worth to an individual who is doing his comptuter sc Btech in IITs. I guess in such matters it ll DILUTE the CV rather than making it stronger.

2. If at all they are worth, can somebody tell a good time one shud go for them. Before/during or post MBA??

3. Any certification course in consultancy etc???

Re: NSE's Certification in Financial Markets - 13-05-2007, 06:11 PM

My first post on PG in a year I guess. I'm thinking of taking the NCFM in derivatives. The thread makes useful reading.

The material on the nse website seems darn hap-hazard. Can someone suggest some good books to read up on derivatives. I'm currently going through Hull.

How much in advance should one book a date in Mumbai?

The basic purpose of these exams is to ensure knowledge for the people working in the relevant industry.Mutual Fund is not concerned with trading unless you buy and sell often(Which is not the smartest thing to do with MF)
Though I have not given the commodities module I believe doing it from NCDEX would be better for obvious reasons.

Well the certifications will show that you have knowledge about that area say derivatives.Again I believe if you are doing summers with say NCDEX not having a NCFM certificate would not be issue since being from an IIM.
