Really innovative step!
Will put pressure on ISB now as their USP was that one can get an MBA in just a year

The first programme begins in April 2006; the admission process starts in June 2005. Selected candidates will get about six months between the confirmation of admission and the joining date. This should help them plan their move to Ahmedabad.
This is indeed interesting with ISB dates pretty around the same time...

And what's the fee for this course?Well,if it is the same as the PGP fee,ISB has some
serious thinking to do,i guess.

That's really a great move by "THE" IIMA .

Some words scared me though :

" The selection is through a rigorous admissions process that includes personal interviews ".

If this "rigorous" is an euphemism for CAT...I stand no chance yet again...

4 more years to go for "rigorous" preparation for CAT...

Anuj : The site doesn't say much abt the details..please tell as and when you come across it...

The fee for the program being 8 lacs & admission requirements says .. person must have been in some 'supervisory' role..
With a min reqmnt of 7 yrs work ex & 27 yrs of age, guess what A is looking at ?
This is not exactly competing against ISB or Insead .. what am I missing here ?

can somebody lend some insight ?

Also, it seems they will be relying on GMAT and not CAT for this.

IIMA ! year PGPX - 06-12-2004, 09:47 PM

One-Year Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executives

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are the eligibility criteria for admission to PGPX?
Here are the basic criteria:
(a) Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline
(b) Minimum work experience of 7 years
(c) Minimum Age – 27 years on the first day of the course [born on or before March 31, 1979 for batch starting on April 2, 2006]
(d) Upper age limit: None
(e) GMAT score obtained not earlier than 1-4-2002 for batch starting on 2-4-2006
(f) No relaxation in length of work experience requirement for those who hold Master’s Degree or any other advanced academic degree

2. What is the minimum grade I should have at the Bachelors’ level for me to apply for admission?
There is no minimum. However, selected candidates are likely to have had a consistently good academic record.

3. What are the specializations available for the PGPX course?
The focus is on general management and hence, no specialization (minor) is officially offered. The programme, however, will offer a wide selection of elective courses for those wanting to do more courses in a particular area.

4. What is the fee like?
The total fee for the programme is Indian rupees 800,000 (approximately US$ 17,600 as of December 2004). The fee includes tuition, computer network charges, library facilities, campus accommodation, and the international immersion segment.

5. When and where can I get the application form?
The application form will be available from March 1, 2005 on the IIM, Ahmedabad web site. (www.iimahd.ernet.in)

6. How much do you charge for the application form? How can I pay it?
It’s free. You can apply online.

7. What is the schedule of the admission process for the course starting in April 2006?
(a) Application form availability – from March 1, 2005 on the IIM, Ahmedabad website (www.iimahd.ernet.in)
(b) Last date for receipt of filled-in applications: June 30, 2005
(c) Applications will also be accepted through the IIMA web site; you may if you desire, download the application and mail it to us.
(d) Intimation to shortlisted candidates – first week of August 2005
(e) Personal interviews or interviews through videoconferencing – from last week of August 2005
(f) Intimation to selected candidates – by September 30, 2005

8. Where will the entrance test be conducted?
IIMA will not conduct any entrance test. Applicants have to submit their GMAT score (obtained not earlier than April 1, 2002, for those applying in 2005 for an April 2006 start).
9. Is staying on the institute campus mandatory?
Yes, this is a fully residential programme. Accommodation will be available for both single and married participants.
10. What degree is offered at the end of the programme?
On successful completion, participants will be given a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. This may be considered equivalent to the one-year management programmes offered by INSEAD (France), Indian School of Business (India), Asian Institute of Management (Philippines), University of Pittsburgh (USA), Cranfield (UK), etc.
11. What are the criteria for admission?
Admitted candidates are likely to have good GMAT scores, a good academic record, a clear idea of why they prefer IIMA for doing their one-year programme and work experience that shows some evidence of a supervisory role in an organization that they have worked for. All interested candidates (whether sponsored or not) will go through the admission process
12. Will placement services be available?
Yes, to participants who are not sponsored by companies. Several companies have already indicated strong interest. Our current 2 year PGP programme has an enviable placement record and we think that we will be able to replicate that success on the 1 year programme as well.
13. What about bank loans to finance the programme?
The Institute has found several banks interested in offering loans to those admitted to PGPX.
14. How is the programme different from the existing two-year PGP programme at IIMA?
The programme is aimed at experienced executives who wish to acquire formal training in management. It has a general management focus, with an emphasis on managing across borders and cultures. It has an international immersion component besides teaching content drawn from many countries. The goal is to prepare participants to be ready to take leadership positions in the firms that they join.
15. Can I talk to someone at IIMA for further clarifications?
Please send an Email to pgpx@iimahd.ernet.in with a contact telephone number.

Sorry for the complete copy-paste from IIMA website, but thought that the highlighted parts might be pretty interesting.

Ketan
