i agree wid mike......here u hav ample time if u want....it all boils down to the person concerned......my status here is same as in engg days ......'one night fight' b4 exams(quiz here)......so loads of time to enjoy, instead of slogging out in lib.....just completed MANAC assignment to b submitted in tomorrow....err today's class........
talking of engrs .......there are loads of them here....i came across mostly electronics and comp guyz........
this yr L put out an extended first list of arnd 710 ppl.....our batch size is 308(including 18 ABM)....so i guess there can be some problems in summers placement(tho i m not sure abt it)
a talking of the CP....i dont hav any CP till now(except some in MANAC)......my seat is in the front left corner of the prof.....ideal for sleeping which i make full use of .......
chalo
will keep u all posted

Guess the 4-hr syndrome is omnipresent but the utilization of the remaining 20 hrs varies...somehow i feel i am back to good old engg days....writing assignments the morning they are to be submitted, same old back benches and completing crosswords in class....somethings never change

Hi guys . the place and infra. here are awesum. sleeping depends on your preferences.people sleep upto 7 hours but theres too much to do and you r right on this count abhishekh and mike . we r in the same section D as per the description of our CR.
a lot of fools out here keep asking silly questions some of which would put a school child to shame.
Neways guys L is truly HelL :
missing good old college days, though the gals are good
Mess food is not too bad and this mess is talked abt a lot in the local media.Infact we have a consult project from KGMC in the pipeline for an IIM-L like mess.
we have almost daily "gyan" sessions frm the seniors as to how to beat the system.
Learning a lot,
Kandarp.

Re: Sleepless in HelL - 20-07-2004, 08:27 PM

Heyyyy....fab post Mike!!finally throwing the myths right out of the window.Sleep is not at all a rare commodity....people like me manage it for more than 10 hrs.The remaining time is spent betn 4 hrs of classes (where i've built a not so good
reputation of being the most sound sleeper ) and the pool tables and coffee shop.
And Kandy....i'm sure u were high on the spirits when u posted the stuff abt the 'world class mess' we've got.The food absolutely sucks.I'm tired of it in just three weeks....just thinking of the two years ahead gives me the jitters.I've put this matter to the council but am not anticipating a quick favourable response. The only other food joint we have at our disposal is a run down 'canteen' which serves
okayish food in a sick ambience.
Anyway, I sincerely hope that things turn out well and all the aspects here move towards betterment.I'm sure the immensely light workload of ours is going to change course wildly with almost all quizzes, presentations and projects due for
submission along with our mid terms in the next twenty days.Maybe then we could say figuratively that 'L is truly HelL'.

Wow! Things have really changed since I last posted on this thread. Suddenly a damned deluge of assignmentsw, submission, more submissions and a presentation or two and some quizzes thrown in for good measure. All this just 17 days before the mid-terms.........but let's face it, having just returned from an extremely gruelling and intellectually challenging session of pool which followed an equally exhausting evening at the coffee bar and a afternoon in la-la-land, I guess, I don't really have a right to crib about sleepless nights.

But seriously, the workload has gone up.....not like Engg. anymore, nut still not as bad as it is often made out to be......ManAc though is seriously becoming a pain....was up all night last night doing the freaking assignment and still ended up giving up on it as a bad joke........which brings me tosome of the questions being asked.....sample this absolute gem!!!! Most B-schoolers will get this (I hope ;-) ). After 2 and a half weeks of ManAc and umpteen transactions this question arises "Sir, why are stocks on the liability side? After all, they should be ASSETS!!!!" This is followed by a protracted 3-minute discussion between the prof and the student concerned which ends with the student asking, "Sir, whose balance sheet is this? The organisation or the individual?" Errr.......ummm......

All in all, not too bad really....entertainment is essential after all. Specially when you consider that half the campus was up all night yesterday. 2nd year coz of their exams and us coz of the freaking ManAc assignment.......

The only really negative thing I can think of right now is the damned 80% attendance rule. Either meet that or face a letter drop (that means that if you have a B+, you drop straight to a C, skipping the B, B- and C+ in between. :(:(

By the way, Kandy, request you to please clarify on the glorifying of the mess food. Also request you to elaborate on the following statement:

Quote:
missing good old college days, though the gals are good
Bataao yaar, we need something to rib you about.

Laterz........
Cheers!

Mike

Thank God. Ive got company. Same case here. Not as bad though.
Up all night before accounts, and still clueless and more confused.

I read in one page: Current liabilities don't incur an interest.

Me: Alrite, Im following.. with u folks.

THen comes: But, Bank overdraft alone incurs interest.

Me: To hell with all this!

Ifs and buts are throughout the topic..... boy! CAs are probably laughing at us. I'm waiting for the RDBMS/SQL paper...

Bye. gonna sleep now..............zzzzzzzzzzz.....

i find L a nice place overall...and MANAC a real pain ..as usual! the mess food is bad.....yes..but it really cud have been worse...havent u guyz stayed at hostels where u can barely look at the food??its much better here!! and the worst part i can find hre is that we write exams every three weeks..and ours are coming up in 17 days! maaaaan!
every morning i get up and prayyyy....that there will be no surprise quizzes hurled our way today!!!
the much talkd about group work... is when we talk about everythin under teh sun except the reason the group met...but seriously, its quite som fun...some real great ppl here..

Re: Sleepless in HelL - 22-07-2004, 11:54 PM

Wow, I guess the dust has settled for the time being on our partying excesses - however I am still counting down the minutes to partying this Saturday ( unless of course somebody has other plans )
Yeah kandy I really would like to know why the food is so good here ? True we get a lot of variety in terms of menu and of course we all read abt the 1 crore turnover hype..but essentially everything in the mess ends up tasting the same - spicy and oily.
Also I understand the strict adherence to time in classes but must we also have the 9:29:59 rule in the mess ? turn up a second late and have to consume the least edible items on the menu ?
Other than that ..life here is fun..love the gyan sessions at Nescafe and the harried run to the canteen during the 10 min breaks ....also Im sure every1 here must've by now realised the true worth of Gyanodaya ( our library)..a comfy ,air conditioned place open all night for studies and and meetings! there are also zillions of books ..some of which I will hopefully have time to go thru in the near future.
ManAc turning into a real killer now really ! I do hope I do well in my next quiz ..the last one was almost sadistic.
One last word of advice..plz do not keep reminding us of the no. of days to mid terms...we already have problems getting sleep here...!!! [/quote]

Re: Sleepless in HelL - 23-07-2004, 11:17 PM

ya.....i m also looking fwd to the party at the weekend....need it desperately...esp after today's shocker.....got a 0 in BIO quiz.....what else can i expect when i started reading it at 2:30 in the morning today......
but seriously, some courses hav become real pain.....i need to study a lot harder now.......ithere r quizzes coming up in the next week...and i haven't started those yet....
today i m feeling quite relax after what was the most gruelling week after coming here.....there r no submissions for the next 2 days......the juggernaut will start rolling again frm monday......
i m facing a peculiar problem now...i think i m becoming insomniac.......in the first two weeks i was sleeping in every lecture , but now i m not able to sleep even if i wish to ......
guess i shud go and try to sleep tonite instead of just fooling aroud...may be that will help me in coming back to the real world
chalo
will post later
