Back on this thread after some time. Survived the mid term hysteria. And i stand chastised.
I wanted to know the efficacy of Public Interest Litigations (PIL). Who would be the best person to answer this question???
Well who else but a judge of the Supreme Court. Just came back from a free wheeling chat with the Justice G S Singhvi. The interaction was faboulous. He exhorted us to ask difficult questions and answered everything from PILs to naxalism and his years as a supreme court judge.

Sometimes u r overwhelmed by the stature of the person or occasion and at others ur non-compatibilty as per ur own knowledge of the subject.

Todays talk on Labour and property by Prof. Oberoi was amalgamation of the both.

He is the retired head of Delhi School of Economics who had collegues like Dr. Manmohan Singh and has rubbed shoulder to shoulder with Amartya Sen.

Though most of us had to concentrate really hard to understand the points he was making,Nevertheless he had a very pleasing peronality and some of the mere morlat questions that we raised like the relevence in the indian context et al were answered to our staisfaction.

But his take on the un-organised sector and the Govt. apathy towards it was really insightful. Also he mentioned a third factor, Social factor or human factor apart from Market and state that he thought was equally important for the economists to study.

All in all an enlightning session..

Cheers
Rupesh

I totally agree Rupesh as today we had the oppurtunity to listen to an individual whose talks about the "third factor" was really enlightening and probably reinforces future rural managers like us that we were so very correct in what we have decided to pursue in terms of our carreer objective!!!!! Although the initial talks related to Marx's theory mostly flew over me.hehe n m sure i hve gud company on this... the later half really cheered us with some of his straightfaced witty comments ..specially economists(read oppurtunity cost)..!!! Lastly we are really thankful to Mukul Sir coz had it not been for him we wudnt have had the oppurtunity to probably grace this occassion!!!!
Cheers

hii friends.. i think we have had superb holidays so far.... just gt back celebrating our INDEPENDENCE DAY..its really been a long time since i attended a flag hoisting ceremony and sang the national anthem..it was a gr8 feeling to do so this morning!!! Obviously i cant wind up without tellg u abt yesterday's awesum experience in matka-phod(janmastami)..I hvnt never been part of one befr and although i initially had sum inhibitions abt jumping into the muddy watr.... at the end it was an experience i will remember for a long time... Although our seniors eventually won..i thk we too put up a good show given the fact that most of us were novices....
Last but nt the least the jalebis were an icing on the cake and i indulged in it wholeheartedly
cheers guys njoi the weekend!!!

Re: IRMANS Way of Life - 23-09-2009, 07:21 AM

Its been quite sometime since there has been a post in this thread. SO I would like to break the silence.
IRMA has seen quite a number of events in the past one month. We had Abhivyakti-09, aimed at finding Mr and Ms PRM 30 . Zailsinh and Priyanka turned out to be the winners. We also had our freshers day celebrations on Sep 4 with a theme party . The theme was "Gaon ki Gori and Tapori" and again there were prizes for the best tapori and gori.. This was followed by a grind in which the tune was set by DJ Remo.. Both batches danced together for hours at a stretch.

Immediately after this, On Sep 5 , PRM 30 organised the teachers day celebrations which was a resounding success and the teachers and students enjoyed like anything. About 20 people from PRM 30 including yours truly donated blood at the A D Gorwala Blood Bank on the same day.

PRM 30 is going off for its fieldwork segment on 29th of September and most of us are in our homes at the moment. So I guess this thread is going to be silent for another 2 months...

All the best for fieldwork friends !!!

Thanks
