Life at XIME, Bangalore - 27-06-2009, 07:55 AM

Hi people,
This thread is to let you know what the puys studying in XIME Bangalore are up to.

I landed in Bangalore on 21st June's morning after a looong train journey. Last time I came to Bangalore was in my 11th, that would be 8 years ago. I loved Bangalore then, a city with amazing weather and beautiful gardens. After a 1 and a half hour of taxi ride with a (too) talkative driver, we finally reached XIME. I knew it was electronic city the moment I saw huge Infosys buildings of every imaginable geometrical shape. (Seriously, why is Infosys so much obsessed with pyramids and eggs?!)

When I reached the college at around 11 AM, few people were already reached and were busy completing the formalities. I got hostel room allotted to me and was happy to find that none of my roomies had come yet. I wasted no time and chose the bed by window-side I was really impressed by the quality of hostel, very clean and spacious rooms. We have a great gym too along with TT tables, a badminton court and a TV Met my roomies Aravidhan and Aravinth, both from Chennai and we hit it off instantly.

The orientation week was to start from monday, a whole week lined up with lectures introducing us to various subjects like Accounting, Economics; guest lectures by people from industry, lectures by our president and director etc. More on that later, as I have to rush to college now!

Re: Life at XIME, Bangalore - 28-06-2009, 01:00 PM

The orientation week came to an end yesterday. It was a great week, gave me some directions on how to use these two years fruitfully. Industry stalwarts like Mr. Sachin Chandavarkar, Mr. Anil Philip were here and so were esteemed educationists like Mr. Sharu Ranganekar.

All the seniors will be here by today evening and I am looking forward to interaction with them. There will be a formal inauguration ceremony of new academic year tomorrow morning. Regular classes will also start tomorrow

Anyway, why worry about tomorrow?! It's a bright sunday and I have some plans to explore the city

See ya!

Re: Life at XIME, Bangalore - 03-07-2009, 07:04 AM

aloha guyz...

great initiative mate... nd here i am continuin sanket's good work

well my initial part is quite similar to sanket's.. so lemme move on..
the campus is a well maintained one, lush greenery all around, all the alleys spick and span.. the mess contractor has been changed.. two weeks into the new academic year nd they seem to be doing pretty good with the quality and quantity!

the hostel rooms too are cleaned every alternate days, we guyz actually bought broom-sticks and mops to clean our rooms but seems like the management knew abt boys nd our affinity towards cleanin

we ve started playin the basketball daily.. but to me (nd a few others), it seems a lil small they ve jus cleaned nd marked the boundaries for the volleyball court yet to use it though!

the wifi connection in the campus is pretty gud but in the hostel the network disappears sporadically. nd of course the there is a marked difference in speed immedialtely after coll & after 8:30 when everybody's online!

every class is equipped wid a projector nd now the newly fitted A/C's too we hardly use it (meant only the A/C's!) coz the climate is awesome! the classes ve started from monday nd being an engineer; economics, accountin sound gibberish to me! nd jus when i was.. (yawn).. about to fall asleep bang comes a warnin from our professor that the mid-term exams in august!!!! i still did fall asleep did get to learn from seniors nd prof. that unlike engg. this cannot be done overnight! well that did make me a lil nervous.. gulp! well wat do i say.. jus hope that teeny-weeny effort i put grows by the day

well i guess that sums up my first few days at XIME.. ll come up wid more

Cheers
Sree

Re: Life at XIME, Bangalore - 03-07-2009, 05:03 PM

Most of the stuff has been covered by my freinds.. But i still have something important to share..!!

Although I was preapred for the stringent timeliness, schedules discpline etc.. in XIME (as per my knowledge gathered by interaction with seniors) I found it preety difficult to adjust for the first week or so. Having work experience of nearly 3 years (wherein you are the boss and no dictatorship), it was difficult to cope up with the 9-4.30 classes (each lecture of 70 mins).. and by the time one reaches hostel its time for dinner .. hostel gates getting closed by 9.30 (9 for girls).. so one really has any time..
But things are changing now, and I bet its a good sign for me as I am getting used to the routine. An important aspect for being a good manager is time management and guess what, in the process am learning a lot of it..!! Discpline and puncutality being the other two aspects of a successfull manager which are really given importance in XIME.

Well, the presurre (assignments, presentations, case studies) is slowly coming up.. and I look forward to it as there is always a lot to learn..

Over all it has been a good, enjoyable expereince in the institute till now and am sure the best is yet to come..

OK .. Now i feel the pressure after 10 days of my first post.. SUddenly ders so much pending work on my list.. and yet things are pouring in.. 24 hours are fully occupied.. and i know it isnt far when i`ll write my next post and 24 hrs wont be enough by then.. assignments.. presentations.. class tests.. extra curricular activities have been pouring in since last few days.. and perhaps this is when time management, the strongest and most important virtue in management plays the key role.. Well no body likes pressure.. but at the end of the day when you see that things are going the way u want to. u feel happy and contended.. Hoping for exciting days ahead...

Today everyone is suddenly jobless after a very busy month. Hardly 50 souls out of 240 graced the mess today, rest all have gone out in the city.

So many things have happened after the last post.

There was the Freshers' party, which was simply great , thanks to the efforts of our seniors
By this time, a group of Italian students had arrived for an exchange programme. We did a cultural show for them, which was very much appreciated. There was even an intercultural show with Indians doing Italian dance and Italians dancing to bhangra tunes!!

Now came the hard part - midterms!! 7 papers in 3 days . I personally had a hard time studying accounting, completely screwed up the paper It finally ended yesterday and now at least for next 15 days, life won't be very hectic

The mercury rising once again... Time for our first trimester..!! starting sept. 16th Didn`t even realise when it knocked at the door..!! time has really passed very fast.. with so many things to keep you busy one rarely realises the difference between day and night.. groups from Italy, US and couple from France now have been keeping us busy for quite a while.. and not to forget the day to day work.. assignments.. presentations.. class tests and above all the 9-4.30 classroom teaching.. And yeah the papers of our mid-terms..
It has been quite a learning experience these 3 months.. from industry into classroom sessions and lectures.. well, i gotta go now.. got a class test tomorrow... More to come..

Re: Life at XIME, Bangalore - 08-09-2009, 09:44 PM

Just 10 days more, and our 1st trimester will come to an end. The endterm exam starts from 16th

Unlike engineering, where one has 'preparation leave' of one month, we are still being assigned assignments and class tests. Yesterday, we got the midterm papers of 'Financial Accounting' and surprisingly, I managed to get 32 out of 50. Quite generous on the part of Prof. Sreenivasan! Some people, especially those from commerce background, have aced it with marks in the range of 44-46. I still can't make out what is an asset and what is a liability

There are some very welcome developments in XIME. The website - www.xime.org finally reflects the quality of this institute. It has been completely redone Couple of days ago, 15 of us from junior batch had a meeting with management regarding how to market the website more aggressively. Glad to see that management is finally serious about this aspect.

I have already made vacation plans, though its just 7 days. I am going to pick three good books from library on the last day, and all I am gonna do in vac. is 'eat + read + TV + sleep'

More later as I have an oral test on 'Corporate Governance' tomorrow
