Re: Life During SUMMERS -

I'm one of those souls headhunted by Bank of Baroda through campus rec.
my project title is as follows
'International operations : product and process innovations to meet customer needs in global scenario' (I've been placed in the forex vertical)
my project involves analysing the various products/services introduced by peer banks and whether/how the same could be integrated into BOB's working structure. The above also include bringing about any changes to their existing schemes, mooting new product proposals etc (for ex - gift schemes by amex, bank conditionalities etc etc)
I'm 10 days into my internship and the experience has been pretty so-so. as a fresher, there were a lot of apprehensions/questions/curiosity going into my internship.
First day started off with me 'self-introducing' myself to the AGM . Then I was introduced to the forex dept head.I was given some documents to study .This pertained to the various transactions that had taken place in the last some days. The above included going through LC's, BOE, commercial Invoices, understanding the documentation process, trade procedures so on and so forth.
Then I was introduced to (and briefed about) the various financial products and services pertaining to the forex vertical and other products in general.
I share my cabin with the seond in line of forex dept (rather, he shares it with me ) and there are a lot of transactions that take place between him and customers/company representatives on an hour to hour basis.
I learned about how the spot and forward transactions are done and how the same is processed through computers. people have been very friendly and co-operative (probably cos i'm the only intern in the branch) ; and the workplace ambience is praiseworthy
Its been a good 10 days, and i'm enjoying working on the project.
here's believing that i'l be able to do justice to the same (and to the teas & coffees that happens to be served on an intermittant basis )
ps -.....and contrary to popular beliefs, people in sarkari offices do work hard

Hi Puys,
I am doing my summer internship from aMap, yeah i know the kind of expression on ur face, coz we are now familiar of it as we saw them so regularly when we were out for the market survey collecting primary data.
Well aMap is a media company , to be more precise a backward integration of Media planning companies, advertisers and the broadcasters such as sony , star etc.
It generates and publishes reports on TRP's , spot monitoring etc..
so when the newspaper said the TRP of the 1st IPL match was so n so it was the data that was generated in aMap. Interesting isn't it
1st day was only half day
and after that for 2 weeks we tried to understand the meaning of all the jargon they used in office...n tried to understand their tools..
then we were asked to prepare the work plan (yes u are rite.. we were not given any work plan instead we prepared it ourself)... then the real pain started..
abhi tak aram se office mein aish kar rahe the.. orkuting , chatting
n i think the CEO ko bhanak lag gayi ki beta yeh log to time pass kar rahe hain.. (ceo just sits in his cabin across the hall so very easily accessible .. to kich our a**)
so he came ans asked us nough of berojgari now " two bright interns from NM" thats his fav cliche .... now show me some work..n then we were sent on field .. to collect primary data.. n dude i tell u the biggest pain in life is collecting primary data.. we visited 100 small n big media planning companies..
but to our surprise and his dismay only a handful were engaged in tv media planning ..
but story doesn't ends here.. he is too smart(IIM A , IITian) he has altered our project title which was developing product for small media planners ...
n now we are preparing report to be reviewed by him on 1st ...
wish us luck frnds... coz its very hard to fool this guy..
P.S - "WE" represents myself and my project mate Jaibind..

Re: Life During SUMMERS -

I am pursuing summers from BHEL Bhopal and it has been one hell of a tought and boring day. All day long what we did was filled forms and tried to be patient. After 1 PM we had our induction or should I say sort of "Orientation" where AGM HR Mr. Puri told us what BHEL does and what are the products and services it offers. The presentation was of about 2 hours and when he noticed that nearly half of us were asleep, he began MOTIVATING us.
He told us that coming 6 weeks will be very tought for us because BHEL is a huge organization and no AGM will be free to cater to our queries. He gave basic instructions like:
1. Do not walk on the road in groups.
2. Never wander around or you will be thrown out.
3. Be patient and I almost fell asleep
But he told us a few great things:
There are three ways to learn, first one is to reflect ( the noblest), second way is to imitate ( the easiest) and third one is through experience ( the bitterest).
There are no rights and wrongs, its just the situation which mends things to right or wrong.

Summers at Mother Dairy, Delhi! Reporting to Brand Manager of Ice Creams, so you must have got a clue abt the product am working on! There was no specific project which was given to me, they have recently launched 3 new variants in the premium segments of the ice-cream. So, I have been doing more on the job kinda duty rather than any project.
The job involves everything from BTL activity, ATL activity, dealing evryone from vendors, distributors, ASM's, SE's, media agency, ad agency to pushcart owners.
So, all in all u see the full picture! from so many point of views that it u get to understand that how one small decision can have an impact on so many channels.
handled sampling exercises, co-ordination with many of the people mentioned above, co-ordinated for inplay promotion with the media agency and was asked to see this whole thing on my own.
Plus Ice creams business in summers is always a fun! Still 2 more weeks to go, but as of now had a real good experience as I was deadly afraid from research and sales kinda thing. So, some insight into marketing with my ever helpful manger did helped me to learna lot in this 1.5 month of summers.

almost through with my summer internship...only couple more days to go....it was a greta learning experince...learned a lot about the international tarde finance....especially gold trade...learned about different financial products involved trade finance....apart from this dd a lotta field work...analyzed the opportunities athat are availble...
apart from this..wats imp is any summer intern has to be proactive and very good at networking skills....always remember..its not only mentor who is important ..but every employee in the organization is very important..always build good rapport with as many people in organization as possible...
One more thng is b realisitic...dont think that in summer intership u r going to get some live project (esp in banks) coz pls understand that its very difficult for an org to put a new person on a live project ..tat too for just 2 months....having said that some times u can get live projects....i have seen peopl getting bored in summers coz they think that they havent got a gud project...they have done nothing etc...but if u carry on ur project with 100% effort widout getting bored...u will definitwely learn more than classroom..that for sure...just consider ur internship as a learning opportunity..and the onus is learning is on u...
My project have been wonderful..and i enjoyed every bit of it..apart from this ppl here are wonderful..very friendly and very helpful....it has been a great experience for me..

Re: Life During SUMMERS -

Well for me summers is not over yet or shall i say it has started getting hotter..!
I am working with a start-up venture called Synavia of couple of IIT alumini's based in US,who are planning to launch an online gift pooling website over here in Dubai, now what is gift pooling you may ask, well here is the answer:
Group gifting is what happens when a group of family or friends share the cost of gifts for an individual or organization.
Group gifting is the easiest and most affordable way to spoil someone with an unbelievable gift. A DVD is nice, but a plasma TV is awesome. A baby blanket is sweet, but a top of the line stroller is amazing. With a group gift, you can afford to rock their world.
So,what all is my work with Synavia, well it is everything..
1. From Doing Market Research for finding out what is the potential of our product.
2. Preparing Vendor Presentations.
3. Doing B2B Marketing Calls,Marketing Visits.
4. Doing Vendor Sales.
Coming Up.
1.Brand Awareness Marketing Exercises for our product.(May be i will contact PG HQ soon! )
So,basically its setting up a business more than a internship.
Cheerzz..
Spirit!!

It is, till now, has been a learning experience for me. Learning not only in terms of my knowledge we have been given but in terms of experiences.
BHEL is an organization in which government holds major shares. So the behaviour of employees is not different from other govt employees. We are learning here not only how things are done but how things are managed. We are learning how to make things happen when everyone is not even willing to listen to any thing. We are learning to be patient and learning to do how to turn calamity to oppurtunity.
And it has been due to our efforts that HR people have began to take us seriously. It is now I have understood what " try, try and try untill you succeed" means.

Re: Life During SUMMERS -

Hi all,
I interned with ITC PSPD (Paperboard and Specialty Papers Division), starting 15th April. First day was rather bland (just introductions and a little bit about the organisation), but it was real work from day 2!
I was required to do market research on Kolkata Paper retail trade (they've recently launched papers in the market). When i joined, I had no clue what was expected to do, despite having a very detailed project brief! However, my guide was very helpful throughout - he was always available when I needed to discuss stuff with him. It always felt like I was working in a team.
At ITC, they take summers very seriously - so if you get through, be prepared with a lot of hard work. But the best part is, they take care of everything else - you'll never be short of any kind of resources. And they treat you really well!
Overall, the experience was great - in terms of learning and enjoying the work!
