Ahem! First of all sorry for a very late post(thanks to lenovo, i still havent received my laptop ) A lot has been said about IIM S but i just cudnt resist my temptation to post. Let me start frm the flight, 1. Indigo has cancelled our flight at 1am(yes am) and the flight was at 5.45am... we finally booked a Air Deccan(almost double the price) and reached kolkata, met sarret etc and took a flight to Shillong, it was an awesome view of Shillong !!!(will try and post the photo's link later) 2. Reached IIM S on 1st July, got a single room on lottery basis. One of the best hostel i have seen(that too in a govt college) 3. did a round of intros and took some photos etc... and went off to shopping 4. Police bazaar(shopping place in shillong) is serious as huge or even bigger than Shivaji nagar in blore 5. did shopping and all for 1 day(2 july)... did the registration, loan, bank account etc on 3rd july and finally inauguration on 4th, enough as already been said. When the inauguration was over we all stood for a group photo and all the new channels, press ppl started taking photos, for that moment i felt like a celebrity 6. orientation started on 5th(yes saturday !) and after a formal intro about the profs and students... i went to shoppin again and on 6th we all went around shillong.... in a word it was AWESOME!! 7. Then came 7th first day in college started.... Will post more later.. gtg now cya! kris ps: forgive me if there are any spelling mistakes etc... hi all,
Just to describe life at IIM shillong as fascinating will be an understatement. I would say its an adventure cum learning for the batch of about 60 students. Its truly a management institute wherein you cannot take things for granted. Resources are scarce and optimization is mantra for us here.
When i got an admit for IIM shillong in the first list i cursed God that why in shillong.. it should have been in chennai, hyderabad or any other metro cities which would have thrown open large number of companies in campus for recruitment. But after coming here, man, the true essence came into light. We were told about the conditions of Northeast and the purpose of having an IIM here. I think North east truly deserves an iim.. There is lot of improvements that can be brought in the public, society and systems. By positioning IIM here, government wants to see a sea change and i am sure we are capable enough to bring a change here. And lastly any company would not like to miss the oppurtuntity to recruit us as students here will have comprehensive experience on work and studies.
first thing striked me is the untapped potential here. Lot of greeneries, good english speaking public, tourism, rainfall harvesting... hey you name it there is oppurtunity around.
I had my own share of doubts when i packed my bags considering the infrastructure, faculty, blah blah. But the team alongwith director is burning midnight oil to provide facilities which other institutes are going to talk about in the future. We will also be helping them in the near future to realise that goal.
With that note i sign off as of now as i have to prepare for statistics class tomorrow. (lot to study).
Regards

This thread is about the life, and I feel I have not mentioned anything about it yet..... So how is it to be staying here???? well this is my first time living alone and I was very sceptical about the kind of life I would get my self into, but as soon as I stepped in Shillong all my doubts vanished, Shillong is no village by any stretch of imagination, its pretty well developed place with good facilities, we have the city centre or police bazaar here where we get every thing of necessity, there is a vishal mega mart the shop that is the ultimate supplier of all the necessities.
When I was stepping into Shillong I was most worried because I was told that cell phones do not work here, but the fact is that prepaid cell phones and reliance CDMA do not work here, I had a post paid so there was nothing much for me to worry about. We have here 3-4 service providers who give good service so not much to worry about at this end
After reaching coll, I was spell bound, its simply beautiful, lush green campus all around, the palce which is the main building and the good quality hostel rooms. The rooms we have are great, I happen to be one of the ppl with double rooms but its spacious and there is no much problem. In the room we have been provided with one good bed, a very comfortable mattress, an office chair, a study table, a pillow, pillow cover a bucket and a mug. If you need something you can just climb down to the in-house grocery cum stationary store which provides you with all the basis necessities. If you can’t find something here, tell the lady to get it and the stuff can be collected on the next day, in case you are in a real hurry you can take a 5 mins walk to the nearest market to get everything you would possibly need. SBI has opened up an ATM right next to the main door so even the money problem gets solved.
So what’s the next big question???? for a guy its obviously: "SO HOW MANY GIRLS DO WE HAVE" the answer I must say is pleasing; we have 10 girls in our college, very frankly I was not expecting so many girls would be willing to join IIM S but I wrong. The ratio of boys to girls thus is amongst the healthiest amongst all IIMs!!!!!
The other big question was faculty, we have great faculty here, the exact count as of now is 10 and the director had told us that he is currently hiring more ppl so the no of faculty would increase soon. The teachers are simply awesome, their profiles are great and we have ppl with loads and loads of experience!!!!!! We had a chance to interact with all the faculties and getting to know them up-close I was simply amazed. We knew that we are getting our own faculty and not a borrowed one from other iims but these, am sure are at par with them. We have further got permission to get foreign faculty which would definitely be great.....
There is a lot more to write but have a lot to study so would have to go now.....
