Life @ SIESCOMS - 16-07-2007, 08:04 PM

DAY 1 : 9TH JULY 2007

Hey guys the rains couldn’t stop and so couldn’t the excitement ... It felt as if the rains with them were bringing a new beginning to our careers, our dreams and our aspirations. D day was right here…All the pre-joining excitement, the orkut-networking of 60 odd junta and a mammoth of ideas…phew u name it …we had it..

But as soon as we entered the BSchool in smaller groups, welcomed by the smiling (and anxious) faces of our seniors, we the juniors of one of the most upcoming BSchools, SIESCOMS , were suddenly gripped by the aura of the place. A silent and serene atmosphere existed inside the institute which advocated the sense of seriousness of the institute. We registered ourselves, got the roll numbers and were divided into 2 sections according to them and with the same enthusiasm entered the auditorium.

What welcomed us there was a set of mentors (seniors who would lead us to the whole 3 day orientation), a few faculty members and the guest speaker who had come there for induction. Soon the clock showed 9:30 and our director Dr.Senagupta entered the auditorium. He welcomed one and all and briefed us up with what an MBA is all about. Why does the industry require the well groomed managers, why the BSchool students should move out of the “student centric syndrome” and the notion of “being taught” at a
BSchool.

Then came Mr.Rangnekar who briefed us up with his experiences in life. He gave us a real time situation as in how we as managers would attract the clients…A very interesting aspect was the 20 sec timeframe he spoke about..wherein the client’s concentration is at its peak for the initial 20 sec..if one snatches the client in that time..he gets him more often than not!!

After that came faulty induction. A lot of faculty members introduced themselves in their own way. Some with their sher-o-shayaris and some with their specialization jargons.
Was fun!!!

The day ended with collecting our Books which looked like our 2 yr stock but we were shattered when the seniors told this was just for the first yr..phew..Also we got our very own laptops woow a TOSHIBA SATELLITE M200 loaded with WINDOWS VISTA..one helluva machine guys!!

We all went back only to know that the day begins @ 9 trmw!!!!

Finally got some time to post something, as Anmol and Santa said, the induction program was excellent. Personalities like Mr Mani is what any MBA aspirant would like to emulate. A big round of applause to all our seniors who made the passage into SIES a bit easier. You guys are the best
All the professors we have had till now are pretty chilled out.. no complaints... but must mention Prof Girish K as a livewire... he makes sure no one sleeps in his class..... without any threats.

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils

As my friends Anmol, Santosh and Vikram have put things in detail, i can only add on by sayin that life @ a B- School is both fun and replete with challenges... fun as in we management games n stuff.... challenges as in meetin project and assignment deadlines..
U interact with people of various kinds......In SIESCOMS, there is tremendous focus on intellectual development albeit, with a different approach that is thru games and interactive sessions.... Case studies are discussed from n number of angles and faculty go out of their way in ensuring that students get the concepts.... Video sessions is somethin that has been introduced recently... We had Mr Sumantra Ghoshal, the distinguished professor of London Business School giving precious insights on how managers need to plan and implement tasks. Can't wait to have more of those..... SIESCOMS TRULY ROCKS

Re: Life @ SIESCOMS - 31-07-2007, 08:18 AM

Hi guysss

Well my staying away from pagalguy for such a long time itself shows what life @ SIESCOMS is all about...hehe

But anything for pagalguy man...
What we've been doing so far...hmmm
We rdone with almost 4 presentations and an ongoing research project..
To add to it the groups for all these presentations r different...as in we r simultaneously working on 4 diff presentations with 4 different groups..
we r put in different groups simply to let us know wht the word manager literally means...I mean trust me guys the kinda heat we all talk abt...has all come alive...
but newaz...am ready for the grill n so r most of my batchmates...infact unknowingly there has been a liking for the grill n the lunchless days

What more to add to it..I'm a part of Branding and Alumni committee..so it jus adds to the thrill ..
leaving from home @ 9 and leaving college @ 9...hehe
Didnt do tht in office too!!but what i love abt the college is that there r all people who r willing to slog...really..its very inspiring..
we have people who r thoroughly professional..in all means...
Hopefully i can catch up!!!!
ATB guys...c ya
PS: one of my buddies will soon brief up about the IDEA AND RESEARCH COMMITTEE
so...watch out ...

Re: Life @ SIESCOMS - 07-08-2007, 10:57 PM

phew its almost a month flying by and i am still feeling as if i have jus entered...
the pace is pretty fast n i am hunting a ahnce to grab it...
guys ummm...i'm not an underperformer or something...but i guess the one liner i heard long back holds true here:-

"Achievement of one goal marks the begining of another...:grab:"

jus change the "goal" to a "project"

newaz for the part of my IDEA AND RESEARCH Project that I am doing on corporate remuneration, a coupla groups met with the CEO of a big Asset management company today...
sounds a bit silly but yea...the first biggie i 'professionally' met...hehe

was one helluva encounter...i could relate to what the biggies r made up of...n what is the level of thinking amongst the top executives...trust me..the word rational and practical define their ideology...
Thnx to him I have to rush thru my research papers by nex month else I am in deep shhhiii...ummm better catch my work..hehe

Will catch ya..all
byee

PS:other freaks from SIESCOMS...jump in..hehe i knw its one helluva multitask but yaa...
