Life@ IMT Nagpur -
03-10-2007, 05:30 PM
Well guys am back after a long while as i was busy with my end terms. And one of the best as well as worst things is that we have already started with our second term also. We had our classes of Second term the day immediately following the end of our term exams.
So the managerial learning as i may put it is that we need to learn to adapt to the change as soon as possible and the institute is making our task no easy as we already have a pile of assignments and cases to process.
Well one of the interesting things is that opur national event is approaching which would be really exciting. Will take leave as of now. Catch u later. And for the people preparing for CAT 2007 ALL THE BEST n WORK SMART

Hey fellas,
Well life here is rocking as we have recently finished up with Milestone 35 our national event and it was a great success. We had nearly 140+ participants from various B-schools with lights of IIMs, XLRI,MDI etc turning up. The event was orgabised by the HR Head of Yes Bank. The main events which grabbed most attention were the Panel Discussion and Corporate quiz both being hosted by Pranab Mukherjee. We had a night by the Indian Ocean's flam bouyant performance and DJ night by DJ Chanchal. Events based on M&A, Mutual Funds, e-business model etc gathered a huge interest in the corporate community.
It was simply rocking

The Quiz Master at the IMT campus
Institute of Management Technology, Nagpur had the priviledge of having an eminent personality, Mr. Parnab Mukherjee, on its campus for the two day national event- MILESTONE 35 organised on the 19th and 20th October, 2007. Born and brought up in Kolkata, Parnab has left his mark on the mighty horizons as a journalist, activist, writer, analyst as well as a theatre director who has to his credit direction of the adapted versions of Shakespeare’s plays. For more than a decade he has been into media and has worked with some of the popular names in the line like the ABP publications, the Asian Age and Pratidin and has served as the editor of the English as well as Bengali dailies. He is currently working with a collective ‘SAMPARK’ which aims at bridging the gap between North eastern states of India and the rest of the Nation- giving consideration to the non-chartered path called media advocacy. He has also contributed through his works in the various UN projects as he is also a consultant with the UN.
Matching with the diverse interests he has and the various fields he has worked in, he has established himself as a quizzer par excellence. He has as much passion for this mind sport as he has for working for the sections which have not received apt shares in the growth that the nation, as an emerging superpower, is enjoying.
Sharing his experiences in an interview at the IMT campus, Mr. Mukherjee said, “it is painful the way people call the natives of North-East ‘Chinkies’. Calling a Bengali as Bong shows love for your native land whereas a state’s person by his/her physical appearance is ‘regionalism’. Discussing on the passion for quizzing he mentioned that he has been a quizzer for a decade now and it all began from his native land. Some of the instances of this conversation are given below:-
Q. How has the experience in quizzing been for you?
Mukherjee: It has been a mixed experience. Like other things it has good as well as bad parts to it. The best part is that it is an ideal mind sport and there are no parallels to it. Well, the not so good part about this is also the same. It is so because students have begun to mug up the quiz books available in the markets but the indepth knowledge is missing. Kids learn the first few lines of prominent books because they are quizzed for that particular line but the knowledge of the content and the context of the book is something which they know nothing about.
Q. What according to you is the secret for someone to answer the questions well in a quiz?
Mukherjee: Quizzing is not at all about cramming things about the subject which ones doesn’t know anything about. Instead one should look it as an opportunity to learn about unknown fields. One should try to remember the books, authors, places and other things which the quiz master had talked about in the quiz and once back home should try to collect information and learn about those things, instead of forgetting things. The important thing is not about proving yourself a winner, instead about increasing your gamut of knowledge and I don’t wish to utter any clichés like – it is not necessary to win but to participate.
Q. What are your views on the quiz material in the market today?
Mukherjee: Absolutely trashy, extremely third grade and a complete marketing ploy to almost commercialising a sport that is fast losing its meaning between celebration and an examination. The only good books are those which are not written with the commercial point of view.
Q. What do you think about the future of quizzing?
Mukherjee: Quizzing in India is moving from general to specific. If earlier I used to do eight general and two business quizzes, I do the exactly opposite now i.e. eight business and two general quizzes. Quizzing has become a sport of the English speaking students from schools and colleges celebrating their niche and ghettoes of knowledge. Their knowledge is very restricted. Today, market gives you trashy books and less knowledge. For example, students completing their fourteen years of elementary education know nothing about the seven sisters of North East or the dalits of Khailranji.
Q. What do think about quizzing as a career?
It is sustainable if you take it as a researcher.
Q. The young generation of today is accused of being indifferent to immediate realities that the Nation faces. What is your take on this?
Mukherjee: This is absolutely true. We can’t associate one movement like Youth for Equality to say that the youth is concerned about whatever is happening in the country. It is not their fault, they are doing what they have learnt from the current systems. They watch a movie like ‘Rang de Basanti’, feel agitated for a while and then the feeling gets dissolved in the system, forgotten.

RTC Mumbai Press Release -
18-11-2007, 04:09 PM
SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP: The Way Forward for a New India?
Social entrepreneurship used to be an oxymoron but things have changed now. Today, it is used as a term to describe individuals who combine the pragmatic and result oriented methods of a business entrepreneur with the goal of a social reformer. In this era where commercial benefits are being combined with social welfare, IMT, Nagpur is conducting its Round Table Conference on the theme, ‘India Meeting New Expectations’ on 22nd November in Mumbai.
Articulating on the theme of the conference, Dr. Anwar Ali, Director, IMT, Nagpur said, “Today, students from premier B schools worldwide are using their skills learnt at the campus to bring about a positive change in the society. We should feel proud of them and encourage them in their endeavor”
“Today, students are looking at social entrepreneurship as a viable career option and even rejecting heavy remuneration packages in the want of following their vision of doing social welfare. They are applying innovative ways learnt during their MBA education to fulfill such dreams and even the banks are coming forward to help students in the form of loans. What Mohammed Yunus has done with microfinance is a feat which was unique but catered to the needs of thousands of deprived and marginalised. India needs many such feats to overcome the deep divide between the social classes, else there is a big danger of a backlash”, he added.
Enumerating further on the dangers of a backlash he said, “The statistical architecture of the country has changed tremendously in the past decade. But the divide has also got bigger. Social entrepreneurs can help bridge this divide in a nation which has prospered as a democracy for 60 years in a neighbourhood which is far from democratic”.

hi seniors from imt-n...
wut is the highest percentile entry @imt n ?
i have gone through the life and schedule of you guys at the campus... but, honestly, i m wondering why is it that imt n is rather not the pefered insti? is it jst that it is too recent in the mba b school circuit? or there is something genuinly deficient, viz placements, infra, profs?
i am not tryin to prove any point here, as to which school is better or not, but this is a genuine query... as a b school aspirant...
appriciate genuine response..

hi vivek,
Talking of the highest percentile 2-3 guys are above 99,and 20-25 are above 97+,we have many guys with final calls from IBS hyderabad,Bim Trichy,IMT-G(IT,HR) etc.
Now infra here is one of the best in country and so are proffs, only thing which might concern you is the location,we definetely have the disadvantage of not being located in a metro but there is a continous effort on our part to make up for this by regular guest lectures, seminars and also our round table conferences, which are held thrice a year in metros involving participation from top corporate personalities.
Good Luck

Hello All,
This is my first post on pg so far; those on orkut community know me very well.
As a 2nd year student of IMT Nagpur, I'm thinking of taking it forward from Kabir and sharing some aspects of life at IMT with you all.
Now that the 2nd yr has started, we can see that there's no distinct pattern or schedule for our classes due to electives. We don't even have a regular time-table due to visiting faculty coming in. Every Friday or Saturday we get to know what our next week's timetable is... and mind you, the time-table is set for a 7-day week, Monday to Sunday. Lectures start at morning 8:30 and end at evening 8:00. Are you shocked? So I was, when I saw the time-table for the first time. Then as you start following it, you get to know that there are periods of high and low density of classes. Some week finance students have classes the whole day and mktg / HR people have only 1 or 2 classes a day, sometimes its other way round. Overall, sometimes you get overburdened by 6 classes a day, and sometimes, if you are lucky enough, you'll get a day free!
Last year, as written by Akhil earlier, they had a loooong mid-term exam, where they had gaps in between. This year, we had mid-term exams in-between classes! I remember a day 2 weeks back when I attended a class, appeared for a mid-term exam, and then attended 3 classes consecutively...phew! The next day I had 2 more classes and another midterm exam. Imagine the stress of it all... but before u get too bugged up by the thought, let me tell you, i actually stopped studying for exams because of this system!
The reason being, it felt like just another class test, with a lot more weightage. But, since we have 20/30 marks weightage to midterms here, we can still make up for any losses in other components.
So far the term's going good and another Milestone 35 approaching... before that, the campus is gearing up with teams, practices, slogans for RUN-BHOOMI, the annual sports festival. We are surely going to rock the campus this year also.
