The highest domestic salary offered was a whopping Rs. 40 Lakhs. Unlike most B-schools, these were not mere outliers, proven by the staggering rise in the domestic average salary in Slot 0 to Rs. 20.9 Lakhs from Rs. 14.8 Lakhs last year.
while the report categorically says that the high domestic salaries were not outliners there is no mention if the international salaries were outliners or not

highlighting one part and not talking bout the other is odd and makes me curious, whats is the average international pay?? its not mentioned in the report it seems..

Average international salary is insanely high because of the outliers and that is why it might not have been mentioned... It was mentioned on NDTV though
Something over $120K !! But its not indicative cause there were grads who got good jobs at 70-90K range too... Just because of those 4 !!! 250K range offers and a few more high offers the international average does get skewed...

The doubt about freshers I am not sure but I think the highest is infact a fresher... Ibanks love freshers Everyone who comes to campus is looking at talent levels first and then at other experiences...

And Folks Dont look too much into the superior numbers at IIM Calcutta this time. Its time people with a lot options in life, like choosing between IIMs etc, looked at bigger things... I mean even though I am a proponent of all data being in the open... Its just a hygiene factor!! You gotta look at other things while making your choices...

For example. Indra Nooyi the biggest IIM success played the guitar at IIMC and was an average student!
Probably the only billionaire IIM guy... Vikrant Bhargava from IIMC made his fortune on poker software... These guys werent busy running around looking for the best job on campus... muggin to get a slot zero...

The point is when you have options... broaden your horizons a bit... Read placement reports carefully and well dump it next

highest domestic ~ 40L and average domestic ~ 20L. it is claimed that there is no effect of outliers

highest international ~ $250k and average ~ $120k (as u claim ) - u are not disclosing it coz it got skewed by outliners!!!!

if u would notice the highest is double the average in both cases.. how can one be skewed and one not..

i dont bite the $120k logic!! if its $120k it should be on that paper and like everything else must be compared to last year.. so that we are sure it hasn't fallen by any chance

@buzz

You make good points mate... But look this is pure mathematics actually. That is if you are willing to believe the poor report writer

See avg domestiv in slot Z -> 20 L with no effect of outlier means... Its not because of this 40 lakh thingie that slot z avg is high... Its because generally people getting around 20 L in slot zero... which is true as I know the domestic salary ranges...

When i said international avg is skewed it means... Many people will have got lower than that enormous 120 Grand! I am trying to tell u that international average does not mean much because most people get a lot below that...

For example Do you know Mckinsey's international basic salary!! Its around $65K !!! All campuses...Yes Mckinsey is that "low"... compared to the international avg... Hence atleast I feel international average is very misleading...

As i said you can go and on over these gigantic looking salaires... You also have to see that most reports are designed to look good and make sense in the least amount of pages... If you can see more its good for you. But reports will be reports

Great placements, IIMC!
Just one remark -- the highest domestic salary by an investment bank in dollar terms in India is not anything unique to IIMC I guess they are doing the same in all top campuses this time. At least they did the same in IIMA. Well, to be accurate, one of the investment banks did. Not sure if the same guys were the ones who gave this offer in IIMC.

@anup

Obviously We cant reveal the names... both IIM A and IIM C All I can say really is that the same bank did not offer that salary to all the other graduates it recruited from IIMC itself. It was a special offer (for two people) because of very relevant work experience. I obviously dont know what their offers were at IIMA. I think the $225-300K offer is another bank and that might be a similar offer across IIMA and IIMC.

And Folks!! if you guys... just like buzz and company have done... have comments and suggestions you are welcome to post them here or pm them. I will pass on the suggestions for improvement to the Media Cell guys for next year.

Hey

The $ 250k offer was unique to IIMC as the 2 candidates in question were offered the role of associates at New York. This offer was NOT made at A/B. Both had prior Financial Industry experience (2 years) and exceptional acads. If you are referring to the highest domestic salary, I know the person in question personally and he has had a desk created in India for his position, so DEFINITELY unique

And Buzzeg good questions and I think DG has answered them sufficiently well. I hope you understand that the domestic average is a true indicator of the kind of salaries available here. International salaries vary widely depending on the industry, role and more importantly country of posting and so will never give a realistic average.

An international average salary at the end of it all would have ended up misleading and hence it was not mentioned. So if anything by not revealing the International average we are preventing any misleading/misunderstanding. Hope you understand and appreciate the rationale and the spirit behind the decision.
