I echo the excellent questions by Viral and here's one of my own. Is the recent cut back on hostel net usage, as reported by the TOI on date, really serious. I mean, has anybody found a way around it yet?

Best Hostel - Highly Debated - There are awards for it annually. And Vindyachal won it last year.

Recently Built are Satpura and Zanskar

Net connectivity is average in all hostels for most times. Currently some new project with Reliance is going on, so we might have excellent connection once you guys join at all hostels.

And Room is somewhat in your hands, Hostel is absolutely not, so stop planning :P

Mess is run by both students and admin. Each hostel has a mess secretary and a dedicated team of students. In addition we have Mess supervisor and staff who decide menus and cook them

Nearest to DMS -Nilgiri
All are equally far off to the girls hostels.. - Nearest would be zanskar, but marginal i would say because Boys hostels' are close to each other.

TOI news???
AFAIK there are no restrictions as such. With the proxy we can use 1.5GB a day(i guess), and that is more than enough.

More or less the same...

Cupboard, table, 2 chairs, 1 bed, 1 dustbin, book shelf, side shelf, wardrobe. No mattress, blankets..

Yes, most of the times.

Closed during winters.. Open rest of the time

No. Many tables at SAC(student activity centre)

Table Tennis, Badminton, Gym, and each hostel has equipment for outdoor sports that can be borrowed(racquets etc.)

In what way is the room alotment in our hands. I mean whether is it getting preferred room partner of getting it single or double.

Some more queries:

1) Does quality of food vary between different hostels?

2) Someone said that the hostels have 3 meals a day. So after lunch we r getting dinner. Do we get some evening snack or we will have to manage that on our own.

3)For the swimming pool , will i get an instructor if i want to learn swimming?

4) What are the usual class timings?

5) Which specialization at IIT D will u rate the best (your opinion) -> finance, marketing, operation etc.

I guess thats more than enough.

The dean office will only allocate hostels, not rooms.
Once you reach your hostel, the hostel caretaker will show you all the vacant rooms and you can choose the one you want.
Quality of food is almost consistent, not much of a difference here.
There are evening snacks in every hostel and this does vary from hostel to hostel.
Swimming pool has instructors but there main responsibility is to act like lifeguards, so wont be able to teach you much. Although, most of us learn from fellow students and that is a great way to make friends and learn to swim.
Usual class timings is 8 to 5 with sufficient breaks in between.
Finance, marketing and IT are the most coveted specializations here. This year, HR and operations also saw an upswing with many students going for jobs in these areas. If you are talking from job perspective, you will get an entire year to decide where you want to be. Good luck..

Hello seniors, any idea when we shall be alloted a hostel. Whats the earliest we can come to IITD? Coz i want to look around the campus, and be comfy and settled before the actual classes begin.

are there night classes in DMS or everything about classes is over in evening. what do you guys do after classes are over?

is it necessary to stay in the hostel or can we saty somewhere else (I mean out of college, some PG etc.)
